US Spends $70K on ads denouncing anti-Islam film

Posted: Sep 20, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — The American embassy in Islamabad, in a bid to tamp down public rage over the anti-Islam film produced in the U.S., is spending $70,000 to air an ad on Pakistani television that features President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton denouncing the video. The State Department said Thursday the embassy had compiled brief clips of Obama and Clinton rejecting the contents of the movie and extolling American tolerance for all religions into a 30-second public service announcement that is running on seven Pakistani networks. Obama and Clinton's comments, which are from previous public events in Washington, are in English but subtitled in Urdu, the main Pakistani language.

They will do ANYTHING to try and over their A**ES. (Sure that will set off the board that trolls all over, reporting "swear words). News Flash - You have an A**, too....but I digress.

Barry and Hill are so intent on trying to denounce their culpability in all this mess, knowing that there were warnings to the State Department long before, some of the fear coming from murdered ambassador himself...all of which they chose to ignore.

And the King Kenya still can't be bothered to meet with security council Obama because he think he is "too smart" and does to need their input.

What are they going to do when the Bin Laden motion picture comes out? -

[ In Reply To ..]
Are will the radical Islamists not be offended by a 2-hour movie protraying how their hero, Bin Laden, was hunted down and killed? I find plenty in the US to offend my religious sensibilities, but that is the exchange for free speech.

My thoughts, as well - Conservative

Based on what Obama and Clinton said, you better lock and load now to fend off the riots in the streets this movie will cause if anything they say is accurate. What I found very interesting, a number of these so called "demonstrators" when asked about the Islamic trailer, had no idea what the interviewer was referring to.

Probably the same thing but worse. - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
Especially when they find out that the White house cooperated with the film makers.

Shocking to say, but they may just strike here when the film comes out. You know they really do want to hit us here again and with the lax security lately, it just may happen.

Hopefully Hillary will get them some bullets - instead of - Super Soakers. (sm)

Obama wanted that movie out to promote himself. Wonder how many will end up dead this time because of his self importance.

Since it seems the film reveals a number of national security - secrets they will probably take notes.

When Obama promised a "transparent" government (and it has been anything but), none of us probably guessed he meant this kind of "transparency".

If we are to have any kind of decent relationship with the arab world, they are going to have to understand our culture, which includes freedom of speech...a concept they are not really familiar with. Keep in mind that many of these folks have been under regimes that monitor (censor) all media. That means that what they have seen from their own country in media has been state sponsored and approved. They need to understand that the US is not like that, and that our govt doesn't sponsor everything out there. I think its a step in the right direction.....as opposed to the Romney approach of just let them fight it out and hope for the best.

Yeah right-Since Obama, their hatred towards - us grows:Try some research

And exactly how do you measure "their hatred"..sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you have a hate-o-meter handy? What you're seeing I believe is the same amount of hate, but less govt control. There are new democracies over there that are lead by those who would have previously been participants in riots/demonstrations, so I think they're having a hard time controlling them while still being on the side of the people. There is also an influx of new media (for example YouTube), which they obviously don't understand completely as far as what can be posted. With these democracies comes new freedom to actually participate in these demonstrations. These countries are not going to just turn on a dime and be just like us because all of the sudden they have a new govt. Every country that goes through those types of changes do so gradually (just like the US has gone through long changes), so to expect an overnight success would be unrealistic.
Do you have a hate-o-meter handy? No but you seem to - (direct lib quote) Try READING what
[ In Reply To ..]
the citizens said regarding what they felt about America and Americans AFTER Obama was elected. There have been numerous polls and interviews conducted throughout the Middle East specfically on that subject. Someone would be aware of that information if they were not on this board 24/7 sniping at anyone disagreeing with them.

Speak of "hate-meters" why can you not post without all the snotty comments...How old are you 9? It appears you think you are funny, (NOT and roll eyes dramatically), and dialogue would go to greater lengths if you attemped some sort of adult, inteligent conversational tone instead of trying so hard to pass of comments as if they are entertaining or humoruous - they are neither Sarah.

Since they now have (per our statement) YouTube, how about the US government put the ad there and save us $70K?
My guess would be...sm - JTBB

that they have researched and found they can reach more of the target audience with a TV ad. However, you can bet that ad will show up on Youtube as well. Maybe it has to do with the number of folks who have computers? I haven't seen any stats on that info, but I would bet its a contributing factor.

Nonsense. Like here, the haters are small virulent portion - whose decent neighbors do not want to hear it. SM

Do not share their malevolence. It may be hard to understand, but normal people just do not hate--and do not FEAR people of other cultures--the way a small percentage of troublemakers here and there do.

In all 20 cities where rioting took place, a couple blocks away in all directions millions of people were going about their peaceful lives as usual. Imagine--Choosing to pick up groceries for dinner or go home and play with their children over hating people they'll never meet. The same as most folk here, in fact.

That's why journalists and tourists usually have to be so careful when traveling in these countries (at least that is what the MSM tells us). The radical Islamists who are rioting hate American, hate President Obama, hate everything we stand for and their goal is to either convert us all to Islam or to rule over us all with Sharia law. Now, I certainly do not think all Islamists are radical, but the groups demonstrating are. Maybe if you would watch some of the actual film on Faux News, as liberals like to call it, you would see with your own eyes the burning of the American flag, the burning of the Israli flag, the burning of pictures of President Obama, the destruction of American property, and hear the chants vowing to wipe all Americans from their country, even off the face of the earth. If my neighbor did that in my subdivision, I would come to the same conclusion, not because he might be Arab but because of his actions toward me.
NO. Many are not. They're PEOPLE, and most have much - better things to do. Like learn to get that hand

It's called news. Unfortunately, what isn't news are the millions who go to work and come home every day, tend to their families, and have little time to waste with the radical elements of their society. Grouping them all together as terrorists is like saying all of us are like Timothy McVeigh.

Do you really think the ad put out was for the terrorists? I kind of doubt it. My guess is it's for the population of folks who are actually reacting to the hate video as opposed to the terrorists that attacked the ambassador (and yeah, there is a difference). So, the post I responded to assumed that the ad was for terrorists, which would indicate she thinks everyone over there is a terrorist.

The specs are just fine, thanks.

From the OP of "many are not" - Anon

Really don't think your "deliberate" misinterpretation of what I said is worthy of a response, but you will notice I began with the statement "I'm sure many are not, " and I included the words, "I certainly do not think all Islamists are radical," Was trying to make the point you could tell which people were radical by their actions. Since no ads had been put out in response to this film clip since July when it first came out and there had been no violence up until 9/11, it is unlikely these ads are intended for your average muslim. The ads are in an effort to stoke down the riots and destruction carried on "by some." Now please pick up the words "by some" there. Your accusation that I have said all islamists are terrorists is a distortion. Your ability to read what you want to between the lines makes me understand how you can probably justify being an Obama supporter.

HATE us for it. Nothing we say will stop the extremists from doing what they are doing. They hate us in the Middle East. They hate Israel. They hate that we are allies with Israel. That hate that we don't believe the way they do. They hate that we have freedom of speech. No matter how much money we WASTE on ads tearing that video apart...it won't make them like us. This is something I've never understood. You cannot...I repeat...cannot sit down and talk to terrorists and expect them to compromise. The more we apologize and bend to them, the more they take and the more they attack. The only thing they respond to is us kicking their butts and not taking crap from them. Yes, they still hate us even then but they don't attack us nearly as much.

You cannot talk to terrorists...even if you offer them your special brew of beer from the White House.

Why is it that liberals wants to embrace muslims and talk about freedom of religion when it has anything to do with muslims...but often I hear those same liberals beating down any other religion. Christianity is evil...Jews are evil, etc...but hey...let's talk to Islamic extremists because we should embrace muslims. I don't get it.

I'm not afraid to post my real name. But, where do you get "the Romney approach"? I think if Romney had been in the presidency, there wouldn't be a Bajingastad left (whatever the name is.. I don't really give a crap, frankly, because they killed innocent Americans). Now, if I had my preference, I would love for the US to tell all the countries engaged in these "temper tantrums" to go straight to hell, starve to death, and blow away like a grain of sand by cutting off the money train. We have plenty of homeless, starving people/children in need right here at home that those billions could help, right? So, if they don't like us, they don't need to like our money either.

the apology - sm

[ In Reply To ..]

So, why are those of us who think the apologizing has gone too far are thought of as haters?  Where does that logic come from?  If I think those terrorists who murdered Americans are worthless scum and should be hung, does that make me a hater?  How far do you think those ads will get us? What's the purpose?  I don't care how many times these ads run - those who want us annihilated will never change their mind.  Those are the ones who are schooled at a young age to hate and kill - something we, as Americans will probably never understand.

Did any of you actually look up the video? - Cindy

[ In Reply To ..]
I did and it was stupid, lame and whatever else you want to add to that. It was like a very poorly done SNL skit, like during the period of time when all their "actors" had no talent and no chance of making it big. I mean seriously. There have been countless movies made about Christ and very offensive to Christians, but we turned the other cheek. Now, for the JTTB's and the Obama supporters looking to make excuses for the Muslim terrorists, Islam has been around a lot longer than Christianity, so they should know better and be better at "turning the other cheek."
