Tom DeLay GUILTY: Jury Convicts Republican In Money Laundering Trial

AUSTIN, Texas — Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay – once one of the most powerful and feared Republicans in Congress – was convicted Wednesday on charges he illegally funneled corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.

Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts against DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He faces up to life in prison on the money laundering charge.

Prosecutors said DeLay, who once held the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives and whose heavy-handed style earned him the nickname "the Hammer," used his political action committee to illegally channel $190,000 in corporate donations into 2002 Texas legislative races through a money swap.

I find it hilarious that ya posted this and yet I didn't see a word on the board about DEMOCRATIC Rengel being censured by his own peers this week...hahahha....too funny!...Nothing like being fair and balanced, huh?

Was thinking same thing!..hahaha. Rangel and many others.nm - They are desperate again

Tom - life in prison Rangel-censure - = usual Republican distortion and exaggeration

Yes, there are crooks on both sides.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
at least DeLay has been out of Congress for awhile....Charlie is still in and will remain in as the Dems have once again circled the wagons and slapped his hand when he should have been tossed out of Congress. If they had an ounce of honesty OR integrity about them it would have been more than censure. How many times has he been caught now?? And by the way...just pointing out how bad the other guy is without taking responsibility for your own house is part of what got you into trouble in the mid-terms.

Rationalization, rationalization.
But Republicans are over-achievers - as far as crime . nm
[ In Reply To ..]
30% more. See posts below documenting this.
Oh well. That certainly excuses Democrats from being crooked if... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Republicans are "30% more crooked." This is exactly what I am talking about. Democrats have become incapable of seeing any bad, any negative in their own party but live to hate, malign, personally attack someone else simply because they do not agree with them, and everything that is NOT Democrat is demonized. What is UP with that anyway? Can YOU explain that to me?

Actually, there was a whole thread regarding Rangel. - sm

I have come to realize it is not denial.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
It is rationalization. You have to understand...it is only BAD if REPUBLICANS do it. Democrats have a different set of rules...anything goes, and if you get caught, we'll protect you!

One thing I have to say about the Republicans...most of the time when they get caught they resign. Which tells me they have at least a tad bit of honesty left in them. The Democrats...not so much.
So, this isn't rationalization? - Oh Brother
[ In Reply To ..]
you've got it bad.
No, rationalization would be saying that the Republicans were no less guilty.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
they were not less guilty. They admitted their wrongdoing (and if you will google some of the statements) at least said they regretted it (now whether they actually did or not is another story, but at least they said it). And you have Clinton...the only person he apologized to for making a mockery of the Presidency was to Hillary for being caught doing the nasty with someone else. He did not apologize to the American people for committing a felony while a sitting President. If he were not Bill Clinton he would be in jail like Tom DeLay is going to be in jail and they BOTH deserve it. And Charlie Rangel STILL says he is "innocent."

This is NOT to say that there are not crooks on both sides. I have said so.
Please give specific examples to back up your - rationalization
[ In Reply To ..]
Specific example- Iraq is Bush's war. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
The Dems and Republicans in Congress authorized the use of force.

Rationalization: Doesn't matter, Bush asked for it so it's his war.

Truth of the matter: Doesn't matter how many times a President asks for war, if Congress does not approve it, a President can't start it. No President by himself can start a war.

THAT is rationalization. Now, read the threads yourself for other examples.

He gave congress "misinformation" - another term for lie.
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh good grief, you are going to bring up that old chestnut...LOL. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
You really should read your history. Bush did not "lie." He believed it just like Congress believed it. You do realize the director of the CIA (foremost intelligence gathering agency in the world...you really should look it up) was headed at that time by George Tenet...leftover from the Clinton administration. Bush chose not to replace him. They believed the intelligence was good. So did Germany, France, Australia, look up the list of countries who went in with us. You are telling me that George W. Bush, who all of you think is dumb as dirt, fooled all those countries and intelligence agencies and made them believe false intelligence was real? ROFL.

If you really believe what you just posted, then that is rationalization in the extreme. It also supposes that you think the entire Congress and worldwide intelligence communities including our own CIA conspired with GWB to lie to our poor little unwitting Congress.

Give me a BREAK!! lol.
You have been watching Fox World History again - Colin Powell ring a bell?
[ In Reply To ..]
Cheney, Rumsfield, Blair - Fox News. Disinformation propaganda. You choose to believe the rewrite. Still a lie, though.
Not a lie....however....toeing the party line saves you... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
you from the strain of having to think for yourself. Much easier to let them tell you what to think. I get it.

Common sense alone should tell you what you suggest is beyond the scope of reality. Guess you have to check that at the door of the DNC.
Another specific example - Bill Clinton. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Bill Clinton lied before the grand jury, under oath. That is a felony. No to ways about it.

Liberal rationalization: Oh, but he was lying about sex, so that doesn't matter.

I am sure there are more but you can find them yourself. Oh wait...you don't see that as rationalizing. Oh wait...THAT's specific example #3.
LOL! He is a man lying about sex! - Put them all in jail!
[ In Reply To ..]
Rationalization deluxe or the law only applies to Republicans...take your choice. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you have any sense of right and wrong or has it been completely removed from your morality?

Just askin.
You sure do spend a lot of time trying to prove pubs - are better than
[ In Reply To ..]
dems in every way...... for an "independent." :/
All I am trying to "prove" is that no one is right 100% of the time... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
and the fact that Independents are just THAT. Yet Democrats think, like you, if you do not agree with Democrats 100% of the time or point out one negative thing about Democrats then you MUST be a Republican. I have said on numerous occasions I am a conservative. Not all conservatives are Republicans. I had to hold my nose to vote for John McCain and it was more of a vote against Obama than for McCain. I know it is hard for a party line-toer to understand that concept.
Hint - you can't prove that by trying to prove the pubs are right 100% - of the time
[ In Reply To ..]

Hint....never mind. Wouldn't get it. nm - sam

They have to resign, it is difficult to serve - while in jail - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Google it. There are more Republicans caught in wrongdoing... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
who had resigned than Republicans. Nixon resigned, Clinton stayed in. Mark Foley resigned, Charlie Rangel stayed in. And the list goes on. Charlie Rangel is crooked as a dog's hind leg, everybody knows this including Nancy Pelosi and the House Dem leadership. They have been covering for him for years. They just don't have guts enough to clean their own house. Who was the guy with the money in his freezer?

You have no moral high ground here. At least I admitted that the Republicans were caught in wrongdoing. You act like your head would explode if you admitted a Democrat did anything wrong.

lol. laughable it is.
So many criminal Republicans - So little time
[ In Reply To ..]
AND...so many criminal democrats - - So little time
[ In Reply To ..]
They are on both sides. I do have names.
You seem intent on proving your side (if you are an example)... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
has lost all sense of right and wrong and accountability.

Well geez, what have I been thinking? The current administration has no idea what accountability is. Promise after promise broken, let the flock follow and rationalize until their eyes bleed.

I understand. You can't defend the indefensible so you shoot the messenger. Around here, we call that cowardly. But hey...knock yourself out.
There are more republicans caught in wrongdoing period. - ...
[ In Reply To ..]
What are the odds? :P
Republicans 30% more criminal - see earlier post.
[ In Reply To ..]
Over achieving.
and this excuses all the democrats .... how? nm - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
you really can't bring yourself to say they are crooked on both sides? There are crooked Democrats? Just can't make yourself say it?

It doesn't excuse anyone. You just can't - stop rationalizing
[ In Reply To ..]
x
And you can't admit Democrats can do anything wrong.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
and you still can't. All you can say is Republicans are worse. THAT is rationalizing. lol.
Who said the dems never do anything wrong? - Do tell.
[ In Reply To ..]
Seems you are "reaching" again to try and prove a point where there is none.
No, just asking for some honesty...didn't get it from you either. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
I have seen posts where Republicans own up to what Republicans do wrong and call them out on it. If you can show me one post where a Democrat has agreed that a Democrat was wrong in anything, I will be glad to have at least part of my faith restored in their integrity as a party. I can and have said both were wrong. THAT is the point...you really don't have to reach for it...it is right there in front of you.

You have a selective memory - I've seen where
[ In Reply To ..]
a Democrat says a Democrat is wrong, but I'm definitely not going to go looking in order to show you the posts. It's not that they aren't there, just that you don't want to acknowledge them. Why would anyone want to spend that kind of time on you?
LOL. nm - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
So does this mean Democrats are just better at avoiding being caught... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
maybe they are just better at being crooks than Republicans?

Just askin.
lol! Was wondering when predictable you - would
[ In Reply To ..]
say that in your desperation.

It does take more intelligence to avoid getting caught though.
Can we just say there are crooks on both sides...DeLay is a crook... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
and so is Charlie Rangel? I think so. Do YOU?
Sure, - but who
[ In Reply To ..]
said they weren't? I am just wondering why we can't discuss issues as they arise without tit for tat?
Well, it could be avoided if research was done ahead of time.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
and make sure that what one side is accusing the other of, their own side has not done. Like the DeLay piece. What does that have to do with current politics? No more than the Democrats buying votes during the last Prez election. That's all in the past. Hit pieces just inflame everybody and everyone goes back to their respective corners and the animosity continues.

I think we need to remember we are all Americans, we are all MTs, and none of us are the other one's enemies. Until we can get past party and back to fellow Americans, you are going to see this kind of thing.

I agree. I would like to get out of absolutes myself. I am not in a "party" anymore, got past that a long time ago. Did I mention I hate political parties? lol. I do hate them, they are good for NOTHING except dividing this country.

Be well.
I agree about parties. - Unfortunately there
[ In Reply To ..]
is a huge misnomer when applying "Independent" to oneself. Just about everyone is either liberal or conservative leaning. If you look through just this board alone, you will find that those who are Independents will fiercely defend one party most of the time. IMHO, Independent is just a name people adopt because they believe and/or want others to believe, they are unbiased. There are precious few true Independents.
Yes, everyone is liberal or conservative and there are degrees of both... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
I started out as a Democrat, but they went so far left they no longer represent me. So I became a Republican. Then they started looking more like Democrat lite than following their own platform. I did not leave either party, they left me.

Yes, I am independent. I am independent of of either party; do not choose to identify myself with either one. I vote for the man/woman now, not the party. That whole party mentality is destructive to individualism, which I think is an American trait that we are losing and I find that sad.

In my definition that is truly independent. You are always going to lean more toward the people who come the closest to your belief system about America and what is the best for her, and yes, more Republicans come closer to mine than do Democrats. And since you have to be registered SOMETHING to vote in his country, I am an Independent. It has nothing to do, for me, with bias or nonbias. If there was another choice to register as, I might pick something else. I view it as independent of a political party, period, as there is no organized "Independent" party. It is the catch-all for all the other political movements that are NOT the DNC or RNC.

However, I do have the ability to see the wrong on both sides, and there are many on this board (and in this country) who cannot. THAT is why political parties have become part of the problem and not part of the solution, in my opinion.

Why didn't you post it? What's up with these types of - posts?

[ In Reply To ..]
We must be sure that we know what has and hasn't been posted and make sure that we post something about each party that is along the same lines? And... of course you would have said the same thing if someone posted about Charlie and not about this, right? You people are desperate! lol

No spin from this conservative as - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
there is nothing to spin. He is guilty. End of story. Just goes to show that any politician in any party can be caught doing illegal things. No politician is perfect...some are just more corrupt than others. It is truly sad that we don't have at least one party we can fully trust. I feel that both parties have screwed us over enough that I don't trust any of them. Maybe one day I can find at least one politician I truly believe but I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for that to happen either. Dems or crats...it doesn't matter...they are all a bunch of lying weasels who promise things they cannot delivery and scratch the backs of those who gave them campaign money no matter how much it hurts the rest of our country.

I meant to type dems or pubs...sorry for the - typo
