Students are angry a favorite teacher is being investigated

The family of a Philadelphia high school student says the teen is getting threats, after sparking a controversy with a political T-shirt.
"The kids now, in that school are sending her threats on Facebook and they're texting her too. And these people used to be her friends" said Richard Pawlucy.
His daughter Samantha, a sophomore at Charles Carroll High School in Port Richmond,wore a pink Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan T-shirt last week on dress down day.
No one made an issue of it until she got to geometry class.
"The teacher told me to get out of the classroom, I said no," Samantha said.
"She told me to take off my shirt and said that she has another one if I need one. And then the teacher asked me… 'are your parents Republican?' I said, 'I don't know.' She said that's like her wearing a KKK shirt."

[ In Reply To ..]It seems like the liberals are always preaching tolerance, yet they are the most intolerant of anyone who doesn't agree with them. Did you see the story about the people who posted a large Romney sign in their front yard? The so-called tolerant people vandalized it.
I think it was probably school policy that politcally- - themed apparel was inappropriate. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]Just as it would be inappropriate for teachers to be projecting their political beliefs in the classroom. Children can be very cruel. Just as people on this board get attacked for being a Republican or a Democrat, it can happen on the playground, too. Even though they don't understand much about it at a young age, many of them parrot what they hear their parents saying (which might be liberal, or bigoted and prejudiced).
When I was in the 6th grade, it was 1960, and Nixon and Kennedy were running for President. In my small school, most of the kids had Republican parents. Only one (that I knew of) had parents who were Democrats. I didn't understand much about politics, nor did I care at the age of 11! But you know how kids are, especially the bullies. Once the bullies found a person who was "different" (i.e., living in a Democratic family instead of a Republican one), that poor kid was teased mercilessly. Why, I do not know! Not only didn't he really understand what political parties were, I do remember that he didn't run around spouting off what his parents said, either. He was just a nice, likeable kid. But the bullies would follow him around the playground shouting, "Nixon's in the White House, ready to be elected! Kennedy's in the trash can, ready to be collected!"
Even as a politically naiive 11-year-old, I knew this was wrong. The teachers most likely didn't even know this bullying was going on, most likely because it only happened out on the playground at recess, out of their earshot.
In some inner city schools, kids are made to wear school uniforms because it cuts down on the violence that can erupt if they dress like gang-members (even it that's the style... dressing like the wrong gang can get a kid beat up, or worse).
So I don't think the teacher was out of line to ask that political clothing not be worn to school. Kids should be learning about how the government works in the classroom, but wearing a Romney or an Obama T-shirt, (or an Occupy Wall Street or a KKK T-shirt) might cause conflict on the playground, and with some of the things that have happened at schools because of conflict and bullying, school officials are probably just trying to defuse a conflict situation before it arises.
The parents of the child who wore the political T-shirt should probably not have allowed her to wear it to school, and instead let her wear it after school.
