Ah, yes, the if-it-feels-good-do-it crowd. The it's-my-body crowd (who see no contradiction with banning cigarettes, e-vapes and sugary/salty/fatty foods and beverages). As the article linked below indicates, pot is definitely not free of consequences. ;

says the people who don't smoke it or use it... - LMT

been around for decades, not going anywhere and TONS more safer than legal alcohol...geez this country is backwards...

"Safer than alcohol" is not an argument for pot... - it is an argument against both.

[ In Reply To ..]
This is one of the measurable problems with potheads - their ability to think logically declines.

The premise of this argument is that pot is "the lesser of two evils" - which is something quite different from "the better of two benefits".

Unfortunately, the distinction escapes those who for some reason believe that they should have a right to indulge in intoxicants, but it's not hard to see why.

Oh goodness...the ignorance strikes again - LMT

[ In Reply To ..]
NO NO NO....apparently you do not have ALL the information, just one sided of course. IT is of benefit medically, ask the families of kids who have to use cannabis oil for seizures, or cancer patients who have been helped through chemo with it. It is not about indulging in intoxicants and definitely NOT evil...but people who say it is ARE. President Lincoln grew it and it will NEVER go away...time to pull your heads out of the sand and LEGALIZE...

"measurable problems" hahaha..good one, but not a very strong argument either. BTW...I don't consider children and cancer patients who are helped with pot/cannabis oil "potheads"...tsk,tsk
Thank you for illustrating my point - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Since alcohol is not prescribed medicinally, the argument "safer than alcohol" obviously cannot have reference to medical marijuana because the comparison would be oxymoronic as there is no comparison.

Potheads can't think straight as I said. I recently spent 2 weeks in Colorado and I have plenty of stories to tell - like the hotel clerk who could barely muster the brains to book me into the hotel, or the waitress who launched into an endless repetitive discourse a house for sale in town.

If you don't like it, then don't use it. But - dont tell others they cant use it.
[ In Reply To ..]
Funny how the same people who don't want others telling them whether or not they can own a gun, have no qualms about telling others what they can or cannot do. Hypocrites.
Um.. those people were probably on other substances... - LMT
[ In Reply To ..]
besides marijuana...probably more like on PRESCRIPTION drugs which are in the class of alcohol and more dangerous to humans that pot is. I have plenty of stories to tell also, about my niece who had 2 different types of breast cancer (total 4 tumors, 2 in each breast) at the age of 39 who got thru chemo using edibles. Or how about the young child experiencing numerous seizures daily and the parents who were at their wits end with trying to find help and finally found cannabis oil for their child, which took away the seizures almost entirely. I know plenty of professional people who also use and are very successful people. Your arguments are NIL since you can't be sure that the only substance they were on was pot. Seriously...have you seen what pain pills do to people and how addicting those are. Oh yes, this can of worms is open and its time to start digging in the dirt. As I said above... pot has been around for ages and is going no where. I guarantee you more people you know smoke it and you probably don't even know it.
In addition... - LMT
[ In Reply To ..]
:) If the link doesn't work...just google "benefits of marijuana". 48 more arguments for the good of pot, including the 2 I already pointed out.

Uuh...you do know that pot has a distinctive smell, right? - So do users just like tobacco smokers.
[ In Reply To ..]
These folks reeked.

I also certified as a cop in recognizing the pupillary and other physiological effects of different substances. Made lots of busts.

In other words, I think I know what I'm talking about - and I think you don't, so don't go around "guaranteeing" anything.
Still... - LMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Sticking by my posts.

Good for you being "certified" as a cop...means nothing. I can tell also who smoke it and use it without being certified. Did you bust any real drug users...POT is an herb/plant, not man-made drug, hence not a drug at all.

Oh, trust me.. I DO know what I'm talking about, whether you like my "guarantee" or not.

It is just a matter of what you choose to believe. I believe different from you.

You can stick to your manufactured (not real) knowledge about pot. It's all good.
Actually, while pot is of benefit, it can also be - see msg - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
addictive and can, indeed, impair judgment and concentration in some people. I personally feel it should be legal and do feel that it carries significantly less risks than alcohol. As it is an herb and has been used by First Nation peoples for ages, I don't understand why it's illegal...well, yes I do (cough, cough, DEA). Anyway, it has its risks and can affect people differently, but I think the benefits outweigh the risks.

Alcohol kills far more than pot ever could. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Liver failure/disease, auto deaths due to alcohol, families ripped apart due to alcohol addiction. Show me statistics where pot does any of the above. The ability to think logically does not decline with pot use. Please turn off the 1970s anti-weed propaganda and educate yourself.
Not an argument for pot, but a great argument - against alcohol.
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, let's see. You managed to call me uneducated and anachronistic while offering a painfully obvious one-sided pseudo-defense of pot.

It's the perennial story with potheads - nothing but their own "truth" makes any impression on them.

In point of fact, I'm very well educated about substance abuse, including not only pot, having served on an advisory board of a rehabilitation facility.

Depression, anxiety, delusions/paranoia (and, yes, even hallucinations), slowed mentation/confusion, tachycardia, PVCs and other cardiac arrhythmias, panic attacks, habituation, gastrointestinal dysfunction, bronchitis, poor judgment...the list goes on.

Why do you think there are facilities all over the country for people who are trying to get off pot - when it's so wonderful for them?

And your main point is pure speculation. First, we don't know all the downsides of pot yet the way we do with alcohol. Second, marijuana is not nearly in as widespread use as alcohol, so the relative societal impacts cannot be measured, but already the suspicion is growing that they are significant.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/14/marijuana-side-effects_n_7284694.html

https://www.reddit.com/r/leaves to read what pot users themselves are starting to say about it.

Or, there's this from the NY Times, hardly a conservative "1970s anti-pot" newspaper. The article is entitled:

AFTER 5 MONTHS OF SALES, COLORADO SEES THE DOWNSIDE OF A LEGAL HIGH

=============
"There is the Denver man who, hours after buying a package of marijuana-infused Karma Kandy from one of Colorado’s new recreational marijuana shops, began raving about the end of the world and then pulled a handgun from the family safe and killed his wife, the authorities say. Some hospital officials say they are treating growing numbers of children and adults sickened by potent doses of edible marijuana. Sheriffs in neighboring states complain about stoned drivers streaming out of Colorado and through their towns."

...and this little surprising tidbit of unintended consequences:

"Police and fire officials across the state have been contending with a sharp rise in home explosions, as people use flammable butane to make hashish oil."

=============
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/01/us/after-5-months-of-sales-colorado-sees-the-downside-of-a-legal-high.html

Read the whole article (while sober, please). I think you'll find it presents a balanced discussion that will be enlightening.

I can give you much more material if you would care to educate YOURSELF.

Oh, and incidentally, like most children of the 1970s I don't claim to be inexperienced with pot, or some Goody Two-Shoes who never left home. I have both knowledge and experience on this particular subject.

Never, ever take the position that pot is some unalloyed blessing to mankind, unless you're on a dope forum. Elsewhere, you'll likely run into someone like me who knows better.

If you truly served on an advisory board - see msg. - anona
[ In Reply To ..]
You surely would not refer to others as "potheads." I hardly think that such a condescending demeanor would be welcome on an advisory board. As to your assertion that you know better than anyone else - how narcissistic of you.
And what about Tobacco - That SHOULD BE illegal
[ In Reply To ..]
Proven to be carcinogenic and plenty of dead people.

As with anything, pot carries risks - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
but then it carries benefits, too. It's used for glaucoma, nausea, and is being studied as a treatment for Alzheimer. My mother has Alzheimer and I can tell you that if it can help, she'll have it. There are just too many things it can (and does) do that the few risks it does carry are really negligible. Oh, and this is coming from a conservative republican, albeit a moderate. It's not all libs that have pushed for legalization - that I can tell you.

This is an argument that could go on forever... - LMT

[ In Reply To ..]
and has been going on forever. My point is that if alcohol and tobacco are legal, as dangerous as those substances are, then it is HIGH time to legalize marijuana. Bottom line. It is out there and always will be. Those who want to use it will always find it. So those people out there fighting against it's legalization are fighting a losing battle. We are making headway in the fight for legalization and we will win. Alcohol Kills, tobacco Kills, Marijuana doesn't kill.

I read that article about the man in Colorado when it first came out and I believe he had other problems that led him to kill his wife. Marijuana edibles didn't make him do it. Of course, they aren't going to print the whole story. They own the information and bend it to their own truth, not the actual truth.

Unfortunately, you are spot on. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe that if there is any risk for marijuana it's with the synthetic stuff. Natural marijuana is completely benign but very beneficial.
I agree with you 100% - LMT
[ In Reply To ..]
and any real marijuana users wouldn't touch that synthetic crap. I put that stuff in the same class as alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs. Just like the song says... "ain't nothing like the real thing, baby" and I tend to agree.

People younger than 30 are disproportionately swelling the ranks of the self-defined lower classes. The shares of Hispanics and whites ...
