[ In Reply To ..]Feb 11 is the anniversary of a significant turning point in the 1979 revolution. It is the day revolutionary guerrilla and rebel militias overwhelmed the Shah's troops in armed sreet fighting that had ensued after they exiled the Shah and Ayolatollah Khomeini returned from his exile in France This is considered to be THE pivotal moment, after which the remainder of the regime collapsed within a few days.
Liberty seems to have little or no cultural sensitivity about the significance of this moment in Iranian history. Reality is that on THIS February 11, 2010, there is another huge demonstration planned against the Islamic regime that will likely be blacked out, censored and otherwise misrepresented by those in power, much like the demonstrations have been since the last election. This event is bound to be really big and get really nasty, so watch for that. Do not watch for Iranians to be turning their sites outward toward the US or to be engaging in Liberty's mythical terror attack at a time when their own futures and democratic aspirations hang in the balance.

What I do see is President Ahmadinejad being his bellicose self when addressing sanctions threatened by Western powers, including the US. This has been going on since the minute he took office in 2005, 4 years before Obama. It is important to note he is also responding to US ships and missiles offshore in the Persian Gulf and their weapons sales to regional Arab allies who are also playing provocative pre-emptive war games. This is the âglobal arroganceâ to which he refers.
Hello. The US does not appear âneutralâ when engaging in such dangerous show of force over some undefined nebulous perceived threat of conflict. Invoking the anniversary of the revolution as a possible trigger to regional conflict that will spill over into the entire region is even more ludicrous.
Ahmadinejad refers to global arrogance again within the context of the upcoming demonstrations orchestrated by opposition leaders. His choice or words suggests a couple of things here. It is common practice in Iran to use state-run media broadcasts to distract regime supporters from revolutionary activities in a kind of one-upsmanship sort of style and to threaten regime opposition in the same breath. The distraction toward the state-media hyped gulf âinvasionâ by western global interests has provided him with the perfect vehicle. In the meantime, he is also messaging to would-be demonstrators about his might and strength in terms of repressing the effort and turning the streets of Tehran into rivers of blood.
The concern Washington is expressing is suspicious as well. To suggest it could âspill overâ borders and destabilize the region sounds more like a weak and flimsy justification for the ships and arms sales. It also could provide a future explanation should some incident occur between Iran and the Persian Gulf intruders.
I would need to see General Petraeus' statement placed back into context which would identify how he knows this and what his sources are before commenting on that passage. Conflict with Iran MAY be unavoidable? It is a real stretch to use Ahmadinejadâs belief in fairy tales and the supernatural to make any sort of serious comment on imminent versus future so-called uprisings, which so far are simply figments of military imagination. The article then proceeds to descend into Bible prophecies that are almost as far out as Ahmadinejadâs flights of fantasy.
What you will see on February 11 is a tremendous outpouring of brave Iranians trying to overthrow its illegitimate leadership and explore the realms of a more progressive democratic system and a crazed and threatened leader running around trying to do a whole bunch of damage control. No more, no less.
