180 Economists Call for Obama to Back Off Tax Hikes - President Barack Obama is demanding a tax hike on the wealthy as part of a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff of automatic spending cuts and tax increases set to begin Jan. 1. Some Republican congressmen have expressed a willingness to accept that. “Increasing taxes would likely slow or reverse our nation's fragile economic recovery and undermine long-term growth,” the letter says. It recommends spending cuts instead. That “would help stabilize the government's fiscal imbalance and create a more conducive environment for robust expansion.” Read Latest Breaking News from Newsmax.com http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/economists-tax-increases-wealthy/2012/12/12/id/467435#ixzz2ErhXMHRm ;

Barack wants other people's money, rich and poor. Yet he cannot handle the too much tax money he already gets. Every kid spends dad's money and wants more. Good dads do not give more, but teach child to work harder and spend less. Barack needs a good dad.

Barack is not a child, kid, or boy. He's a man and our president. - sm

would do well to listen to the common sense approach of the 180. If the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire, we're all going to take a hit. Every last one of us.

You mean the same way - we all took that "hit"

during those prosperous Clinton years, marked by steady and robust economic growth, record-high surpluses, record-low poverty rates, the longest economic expansion in history, the lowest unemployment since the early 70s, and the lowest poverty rates for single mothers, black Americans, and seniors? It's a sad commentary on your party's ideology to see the kind of lunacy your 180 vs 361,820 economists suggests, but not at all surprising. It's kinda like the post below where someone tried to float the notion that 24 MANMADE climate-change deniers know better than the 13,950 opposing peer-reviews that support the premise.

But hey, whatever floats your boat. I'm certainly willing to witness a few dozen more interim congressional and presidential election cycles until you guys realize the folly in serving the 1% vs 99% best interests.

that during the Clinton years, there were only 2 years that he balanced the budget out of 4, but the way they wrangled the numbers made it look like he balanced the budget all 4 years. That surprised me.

I'll have to look that up tomorrow if I get a chance and get back to you on that.
Did they explain that G.H.W. Bush hid his debt numbers until - he lost the election and that only
[ In Reply To ..]
then did Clinton learn that the nation was far deeper in debt than anyone realized? To the point that he had to make balancing the budget an emergency priority?

The Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II administrations all exploded our debt, and the guests point is actually that Clinton only managed to balance the budget over time?
So does this mean - Sm
[ In Reply To ..]
that 2 wrongs do make a right? That because past presidents have done this we should let it continue with our current president? That we should just let Washington (and by that I mean both sides of the aisle) spend, spend, spend with wild abandon and not hold them accountable for the economic position they have put our country in?
Perhaps it means we should use the balanced budget - Clinton achieved as a blueprint
[ In Reply To ..]
for a starting point and incorporate whatever viable data has come to light since then, with regard to the alleged "hidden" numbers, into the current process as the areas of focus where corrections need to be applied. Whatever BC did during his tenure resulted in economic growth, brought on by whatever appropriations percentage formulas and allocation targets he used. Fact remains that the Reagan, GHWB and GWB approaches gave us economic contraction and increased the debt, so their basic underlying budget structures have been proven over and over again to have been not only ineffective, but also downright destructive, and should be AVOIDED at all costs. The common thread that is ABUNDANTLY APPARENT between Reagan, GHWB and GWB is their mind-numbing adherence to trickle down economics, kowtowing to the coporations and wealth and shafting the of the middle class.

there is no evidence to support your claim - (would be glad to review yours)

Bill Clinton was President, and he raised taxes on the wealthy.

Today, the greedy corporations and top executives are doing nothing but profiting since they refuse to hire.

The Republicans have been peddling this philosophy for the last (at least) four years now, and the proof is in the pudding: IT HASN'T WORKED.

I'm sure NewsMax found a bunch of "economists" that money can buy. Since it's a purely right-wing trash magazine, I don't expect much truth from it.

Let's face it - - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neigher is apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.  We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it ...
