that for-profit contractors are selling school districts. I think most of us would agree with the simple math of the person who said the food from home (2+ meals) makes more of a difference than 1 meal eaten at school. The same math applied to calories and fats also suggests that one nutritious, unfattening meal a day 5 days a week will make a BIG difference.

Of course, a school full of mostly overfed kids is going to feel hungry after a proper-sized meal. Their intestines need to shrink back to proper size.

The adjustment from gluttony to good eating is going to be an ongoing problem, especially with irresponsible parents who've never learned to tell their kids no and big business anxious to get their profits back up, but at least we're going in the right direction after taking a terribly wrong, for-profit turn at our children's expense.

We're not talking about Betty Crocker here, lovingly cooking up good food for our children. We're talking about corporations milking a semi-captive market for profits; and just like health insurance companies, the lower the quality of product they provide the more money they make.

It is greatly to our shame that we allowed this to happen in the first place. Are you really going to spend the next four years arguing for their right to sell us bad food? Remember, children eating those school lunches are not free to buy anything else OR, for that matter, to choose parents who wouldn't dream of allowing them to eat that stuff day after day.

Approximately half the people in this country are now on the dole of one kind or another - or, in a lot of cases, on the dole in MANY ways.

And I can't blame all of this on the Democrats. Sure - they're the consummate artists when it comes to handing out stuff, but you can't say Republicans haven't responded in kind.

It seems that we have plenty of politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle who, sooner or later, succumb to the irresistible temptation to buy votes by throwing open access to the public coffers.

Here is what I am going to do this election cycle, and although it seems rather "formulaic", the "formula" is based on what I see going on in Washington:

I am going to vote against EVERY SINGLE INCUMBENT, from the President on down to the local dogcatcher.

This nation never contemplated the rise of a "ruling class" - meaning, people who run for office over and over and over again. The idea was, you went to Congress, you served a couple of terms or whatever, and you went back to your farm or your business. This was because, at the outset, there was NO BENEFIT to remaining in office and you made practically NO MONEY, garnered NO BENEFITS, etc. for doing so.

Now, of course, there is ENORMOUS benefit from staying "in power", and by my vote I intend to register my prostest to the way in which political position has become transmogrified into wealth and power.

Good for you!. New, responsible reps will end this recession - fastest, so jobs will replace need for dole.

Let's not forget, the big increase in people needing food stamps, unemployment, etc., is temporary--just not nearly as temporary as it could and should have been.
