Some Conservative Thoughts

Posted: Oct 22, 2009

If a conservative doesn’t like a news organization or a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.  A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.  If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.  If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislative respect.

If a black man or Hispanic is conservative, he sees himself as independently successful. Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced, unless it’s a foreign religion, of course.

Nice post and spot on!!! - Juliette

No message, the OP says it all.

False post and spot off. - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Can you say 'simplistic'? 'generalizations'?

The OP was full of simplistic generalizations, and therefore the statements were false.

Can you say who cares? - watcher

You were afraid someone would not see the post further down so had to come up to the stop to make your pronouncement of statement being false. Shall we expect film at 11?
Yes! YOU care! - me

It's one reason you shadow my posts.

Check out the history...I far from *shadow* all your posts...but you are.... - watcher

involved in nearly EVERY pile-on that follow most of my posts. I just get amused by your *pronouncements* of things that are *false* based on your own criteria (and who knows where THAT comes from). It is only your opinion, has no basis in any kind of fact, but you feel compelled to put it out there, and sometimes I am compelled to comment on it because it is just silly. Sorry, but that is just the way it is.

And...I don't shadow your posts. You comment on nearly every pile-on of any conservative poster so your posts are right there evident...no shadowing required. lol.

The world is not black or white, and neither are conservatives and liberals. Most of us live in shades of gray.

There are fanatical nut jobs on both sides who try to tell others how to live their lives, and if it's not their way it's the wrong way.

I'm still not sure where to attribute the original post. The link above is about 8 days old, I think, and a quick google can find the list dating back more than a month.

Conservatives Believe! - wonderful

[ In Reply To ..]
that every life is sacred, except the lives of poor people, inmates, and soldiers in Iraq. Conservatives would like to make the decision as to whether a woman can have an abortion or not, but they don't need any evidence to send a fully developed teenager to die thousands of miles away for oil.

Doncha love em?

I am a conservative and so is my husband... - Kendra

[ In Reply To ..]
He is also active duty. Tell me again that conservatives don't value the lives of soldiers. The sad part is that most soldiers are conservative.

That is not what I said - wonderful

[ In Reply To ..]
of course they value the lives of soldiers, just not as much as oil.
If we were allowed to use our OWN resources - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Like every OTHER country in the world, we wouldn't NEED to pay foreigners who want to kill us all for what we need. We have plenty of resources right here in our own country, but we are not allowed to use any of them. Stupid is as stupid does-- and you can't fix stupid. Tell it to our "leaders".
Oh, get off your high and mighty horse!.. The "oil" thing is - plain ridiculous and a big cop-out from the left.n

You are the one who just marginalized the lives lost... - Kendra

not the conservatives. Shame on you.
Really? How so? - just wonderful

How did I marginalize lives lost? Or maybe you read something into it? Anyway, I would love to know how you came to this conclusion.

As a conservative, I'd like to applaud this post, but... - Cherise

[ In Reply To ..]
The main problem we have in this country, it seems to me, is the demonizing of each side by the other. Our political parties encourage this because they want people to identify themselves with the party. Both parties fear the growth of "independents" much more than they fear the other party. You can't lead "independents" around by the nose like you can do with "the party faithful".

I am a conservative, but I'm also an independent, because I can't "toe the Republican party line" on a number of things. And, for reasons of intellectual honesty, I have to permit myself to consider whether a liberal policy on a particular problem or situation might not be the best approach.

I encourage all of us to be "independent" - or at least, "independent thinkers". None of us should allow our party leaders to dictate what we should believe or think. The best thing that could happen to this country would be if all of us DIS-affiliated ourselves from either party and began to think for ourselves. Most of us are somewhere near "the middle" - and I bet we could all come to good solutions if we could only stop allowing ourselves to be taught (carefully taught) to hate the "other side".

Round of applause for Cherise! - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
I applaud your independence, though I cannot follow. See, there was this time when I voted for Jerry Brown and Reagan ended up president. My oldest bro told me that might happen and I scoffed at him. I didn't believe Reagan had a chance. Goes to show what I knew!

Anyway, less spew and more critical thinking would be nice. Less indoctrination, more independence. I like the way you think, though I'm sure we'll disagree many times ;)

These were ALL generalizations and therefore false - me

[ In Reply To ..]
You give true conservatives a bad name when you post ridiculous statements like these, which can't be substantiated. Do you even understand what 'generalization' means? How about stereotype?

One of the things liberals *don't* do is assume all 'conservatives' are the same. WE still tend to believe in individual differences.

*Generalization, and therefore false.* - watcher

[ In Reply To ..]
Your last statement is a generalization, after you castigate someone else for *generalizations* therefore your post is false.

YOU spoke for ALL liberals and I don't think they voted you spokesperson. WE...speaking for them again.

Any idea how arrogant this post sounds? But, you worship Mr. Obama so you learned at the feet of the master.

Wrong again. - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't you ever get tired of being so wrong?

"we tend to still believe" is not a generalization because it allows that not all ('liberals') would agree with the statement.

Whoosh!

Hey you can LOVE the OP all you want. My opinion is that it should be dismissed immediately not JUST because it generalizes, but because the characteristics assigned to the 'conservatives' and the 'liberals' are OPINION, not fact.

So combined generalizations and opinions and you get: NADA

and this post was what? Generalizations and opinion. Therefore NADA. - watcher

Me, you take yourself WAY too seriously. Lighten up. LOL.
Grow up already - me
[ In Reply To ..]
YOU take me too seriously, which is why you are such a stalker.

Why not just give it a rest? You never do anything more than use what *I say* in my post to attempt to deflect from my message/meaning - and in doing so you make yourself look really lame.

Just put be on 'ignore' and I will do the same for you.

You have no message/meaning....you have an opinion. Let's call it what it is. And.... - watcher
[ In Reply To ..]
And don't flatter yourself with the I take you seriously thing. I don't. But the issue was YOU taking YOURSELF way too seriously. Whether I do or do not should not mean anything to you. Obviously it does, to begin your post with the oh so mature "grow up already" followed by the "make yourself look really lame." Another opinion...means nothing really. At least to me.

You are on ignore for the most part. There are zillions of your posts I just read, laugh, shake my head and move on. Only a few get attention.

It is a free board and a free country (right now). You seem to have taken the white house approach to freezing out any opposition. If I feel inclined to comment, I will comment. Borrowing from your use of idioms...if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
I would say the same thing to this administration.

They wanted the job, and they should be big enough or secure enough to take the criticism that always goes with it. In other words....they need to grow up already.

I will make a concentrated effort to ignore you for the most part in the future, since you asked *so nicely.*

Why is it when someone supports - wondering

[ In Reply To ..]
President Obama, you say they "worship" him? I have seen this many many many times from you in response to many different posters.

ACORN Considers Bankruptcy: Some Conservative ThoughtsMar 20, 2010
I'm sure liberals will not be surprised that a conservative would be happy that ACORN is going under, but the reason will surprise them: I'm happy about the prospect of ACORN's demise because it will make room for better social aid organizations that operate with greater integrity. Anyone who believes that there are not still citizens of this country who need help in gaining access to basic services, who need help in navigating their way into the "main stream" of American soci ...

There are actually two things in this article.  I am a believer in the second ammendment and a democrat.  However, I also believe there are people out there who should not own guns.  Perhaps this bill was vague (I haven't seen the actual bill), but I do believe people with severe mental illness with violence tendencies should not own guns. The other issue is the last paragraph:  "The goal of the rule was to minimize coal mine pollutants in waterways and would have requ ...

Some Liberal Thoughts Oct 25, 2009
If a conservative doesn’t like a news organization or a talk show host, he goes on multiple chat boards and blogs and does everything he can to discredit them. Liberals just don't invite them in.  If a conservative decides he needs health care coverage, it is after he has taken advantage of the system by not carrying it; making payments to healthcare providers who are not in the business of lending money, and sometimes he has filed bankruptcy.  A liberal recognizes that eve ...

Election Day Thoughts ...Nov 02, 2010
I used to vote for who I wanted in office because we had credible, responsible candidates - promising, at the least.  Now I vote to keep out the lesser of the evils. All that aside, my thoughts for the whole nation on any election day: 1.  May we all vote in peace, without threat or harm or intereference. 2.  May all who are able to vote soberly cast their vote. 3.  May we be able to pull together and get behind those who prevail and make the best of the process, regardle ...

Some Thoughts About This Board, Etc. Mar 18, 2012
I respect everyone’s right to their opinions.    We have a 2-party system in this country, thankfully, although  at times I wish it were more, and if we all thought the same, or weren’t allowed to disagree, we would probably not be living in a democracy.    This is my issue.   When I hear, for example, some conspiracy theory on how Obama’s (or it could be anyone) agenda is to ruin the country, turn it into a socialist state  (wh ...

Just heard prediction there could be as many as 21 Republican candidates.  I wonder how bad they are going to tear into one another.  This has, in the past, made it very difficult for the candidate to recover from some of the accusations.  Of course, depends on the accusation. On the other side, Democrats, with 2, not as certain there will be more.  I think Sanders will argue on the issues.  I think Clinton will give thought to the those issues/accusations and answer.&n ...

A Few Thoughts About The Political Discourse On This BoardJun 30, 2015
1.   Pigeonholes, prejudices and labels:  It's the natural tendency of the human mind to simplify reality.  This is an adaptive mechanism by which we seek to make sense of a world that is overwhelmingly complex and constantly changing.  Even our physical sensory organs (and their respective brain centers) are designed in a way to filter OUT the vast majority of the millions of bits of sensory data that impinge on us constantly. If not, we'd be so inundated with ...
