Please stop the media frenzy. I am happy that....sm

attention was focused on this issue but let the justice system now do its job.  There are lots of questions still to be answered before all the pieces are put together.  The brother, the judge father, other actual witnesses, leaks, anything to sell a story.  Same old story, follow the money.  A judge should have shut down this misinformation hotline long before now.

vigilante justice team - goldie

[ In Reply To ..]

And it appears that Roseanne Barr has become the newest member of the celebrity vigilante justice team.  Guilty or innocent - that's for the courts to decide, not people like Roseanne Barr.  There has to be laws to protect these people from this witch hunt and calls for street justice, like the bounty put on George Zimmerman's head from the New Black Panthers.  I hope the parents of George Zimmerman get a good attorney.  This crosses the line.  Scary stuff.

There is also still the Twitter account @KillZimmerman calling for his death.  How far can you defend freedom of speech before you allow inciting violence?

Has anyone heard of this story? A 13 year-old white boy from Kansas City, Missouri is recovering from first degree burns after being doused with gasoline and lit on fire.  According to published reports, the young man was walking home from school when two black teenagers attacked him on his way home.  “We were told it’s a hate crime,” the boy’s mother Melissa Coon told KTLA. “They rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open. (One of them) poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, ‘This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.’”  The second attacker “produced a large fireball burning the face and hair” of the 13 year-old boy, according to a report from the Kansas City Police Department.

Not many people heard the news story.  Hate is hate - it's not black hate or white hate - it's just ugly.

MARCH 29--The comedian Roseanne Barr last night tweeted the home address of George Zimmerman’s parents to her 110,000-plus Twitter followers, only to delete the posting after “not fully understanding that it was private not public.”

Barr’s posting of the correct Florida address of Robert and Gladys Zimmerman came at the same time Spike Lee was issuing an apology for erroneously disseminating a tweet that purportedly contained the home address of George Zimmerman, who last month killed teenager Trayvon Martin.

The residence cited by Lee is actually the home of an elderly couple with no connection to Zimmerman.

Barr, who deleted her tweet in the face of criticism from some Twitter followers, noted that she first thought it “was good to let ppl know that no one can hide anymore.”  That stance quickly changed, with Barr reporting, “But vigilante-ism is what killed Trayvon. I don’t support that.”

But while Barr deleted her original posting, the Zimmermans’s address remains in messages in her Twitter stream. Barr’s original tweet was a retweet of a post by a new Twitter user who appears devoted to disseminating the Zimmermans’s address and phone number, as well as contact information for Joseph Oliver, who has made numerous TV appearances in support of Zimmerman, a friend and former coworker.

Still, the entertainer left open the possibility that she would again circulate the Seminole County address of Zimmerman’s parents. “If Zimmerman isn’t arrested I’ll rt his address again.” She added, “maybe go 2 his house myself.”

There is no indication that Zimmerman, who is reportedly in hiding, is holed up in his parents’s residence.

By tweeting the Zimmermans’s address, Barr appears to have violated Twitter rules that state, “You may not publish or post other people's private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission.” (3 pages)

Where is the blessed president and Eric Holder? You hear not one word from them. Look how long it took Spike Lee to finally publish an apology. (Spike's apology was fine, but Rush's was not - world difference in what they did. Rush called someone a slut; Spike demanded someone physically pursue another individual, and gave out an address of an innocent, elderly couple. Because it was an Obama supporter, Democrat, Liberal, Spike saying "sorry" was okay, but using the word slut, people wanted Rush hung out to dry, banned and fired - Yeah real objective in fair on the part of the left.) What is so hypocritical here is posters went on literally for week after week after week because Rush called Fluke a slut, but those same posters with such outrage over the word slut, never called out Obama, Holder, Spike Lee, Barr, CBS, NBC, CNN, Sharpton, Jackson (and so many more) to stand up for the INNOCENT, elderly couple that Spike Lee terrorized. Nor, have these same posters so outraged at the word slut, said much about all those above calling for an outright bounty on Zimmerman. Where is all the outrage and indignation now? Guess we will not hear any outrage since all listed above are in the Democrat and Liberal hate zone and those haters/inciters always get a pass.

Get over - it

This constant dem versus lib thing is getting ridiculous. I voted for Obama and am disgusted with what I am reading about Rosanne Barr and Spike Lee and Rush Limbaugh. Why do you assume everything is related to dem or pub. Sometimes it is just opinions versus opinions. ***** When I heard the story about the shooting, I never even thought of politics. It was another shooting with two sides to the story and needs to be settled by the courts.

I guess it is only news when it is white on black crime. If it is black on black or black on white, it isn't worth mentioning for some reason. I don't get it.

I understand people wanting justice in this case. I wholeheartedly agree too. There should be an investigation. The thing that scares me though is the hatred and the violence being incited by many people right now. I would be terrified to be Zimmerman or any of his family members right now...or even neighbors and/or friends. We need to let the law decide what to do and just pray for those involved all around.

people will be harmed now by the violence that will be created by the media frenzy. It's not a race crime unless it is a white on black crime. One of the leading causes of death to black men age 18-25 is murder and mostly by other blacks.

It only makes big news if it is white on black.

Google the detective's name in the Coons case - 25,400,000 hits return

I'd hardly call that under-reported. This horrible incident has been actively pursued by the investigators as a hate crime and a search for the unidentified black kids who the victim alleges did this to him is ongoing. When sifting through the reports, it is impossible to overlook the vast volumes of right-wing report sites, where discussions about black media hustlers reporting on the Trayvon Martin case and ties to Black Liberation theology are ablaze. Sadly, we also find absolute pronouncements that the Coons case is a REAL racist hate crime, as opposed to the Martin case, which is absolutely trumped up and phoney. I find it ironic that you chose this case to illustrate the pitfalls of the media's and public's rush to judgment, given the competitive nature of the reports on which crime is more racist than the next.

It is simply astonishing the lengths the right will go to trying to protect the ALEC-NRA-sponsored Stand Your Ground law and to avoid discussion on the law's flaws, the fact that so-called self-defense crime has tripled since it was enacted and the miscarriage of justice we now see manifested in the Trayvon Matin case. Try to wrap your brain around this simple concept. Street justice, witch hunts and lynch mobs are not the goal. A rountine arrest, charges against the shooter and a court date are. Is that too much to ask?

Here's another case you will never see reported on any of those 25,400,000 sites carrying the Coons story. Kenneth Chamberlain, Sr., a 68-year-old African-American Viet Nam Marine veteran, was fatally shot in November by White Plains, NY, police who responded to a false alarm from his medical alert pendant. When dispatched to the location, the officers were told they were responding to a medical alert, not a crime. Audio of the entire incident was recorded by the medical alert device in Chamberlain’s apartment. Video embedded on the taser device the officers used on Mr. Chamberlain captured part of the incident as well.

When they arrived, Mr. Chamberlain, unaware that his medical alert pendant had been accidentally activated WHILE HE WAS ASLEEP, told them he was fine. They continued banging on the door, insisting that he let them into his home. Mr. Chamberlain was later heard pleading with the officers: "Please leave me alone. I’m 68 with a heart condition. Why are you doing this to me? Can you please leave me alone?" Officers allegedly responded by using expletives and calling Chamberlain a racial slur (F'ing N-word) while shouting at him to open the door. At one point, the officers were heard mocking his past as a marine. Ultimately, after using expletives and racial slurs, they broke down the door. The video shows they fired a taser at him, but without the desired effect. He was standing about 8-10 feet away from them with his hands down to his side. One of the officers was then heard saying, "Cut it off," referring to the video. After that, they shot and killed Mr. Chamberlain.

Until now, the names of the officers have not been disclosed and no charges have been filed, leaving the citizens of White Plains, NY wondering whether or not these two maniacs are still patroling the streets in their neighborhoods. The entire interview with Mr. Chamberlain's son is linked below.

IMO, all 3 of these incidents are despicable hate crimes. Mrs. Coons is fortunate to still have her son. Mr. Chamberlain Jr. and the Martins were not so lucky.

I don't believe anyone said - Trigger Happy

[ In Reply To ..]
there weren't flaws in the Stand Your Ground Law. I believe that should be looked at carefully and determine whether it does more harm than not. Perhaps you assume we are protecting this law, but that isn't necessarily the case. I do, however, believe that if someone breaks into your house, you should have the right to protect yourself whether it be pepper spray, taser gun or firearm. That is my personal opinion though.

I don't think anyone on the right or otherwise is also suggesting that hate crimes don't happen either. We all know better than that.

This horrible tragedy shouldn't cause us to incite violence or hatred though. How does that help an already disturbing situation?

If Zimmerman is guilty of a hate crime, he will be brought to justice through the court system. However, we all can't stand back and just convict a man without knowing what really happened. Yes, we may hear what he claims happened and we may see a video clip or hear about the police report....but were any of us really there? This assumption that this was a hate crime and the threatening of Zimmerman and celebs tweeting what they believe to be the man's address....that is just taking things way too far. Innocent until proven guilty.

However, I do thing Zimmerman took his neighborhood watch duty too far. When you call 911 and the dispatcher tells you to stop following him and you keep doing it and the person ends up dead.....there is a definite issue there that needs to be investigated.

HAPPY DAY!Mar 27, 2011
I love to cook!  Always have.  Since I was young I have collected family recipes, changed them around (or not) and have honed my skills to the point where I have earned the title of "family cook".  I can do it all!  I even make homemade cakes and decorate them for family gatherings.  I have index cards, ringed binders and tons and tons of recipes on random pieces of paper put away in boxes. This story is one illustrates why government-controlled health care can be a dangerous thing.  The doctors and the government took choice away from these parents and basically said "sorry, your child is just going to die, no tracheotomy for him."  Religious organization from the US stepped in, brought him down here, US docs did the trach, and now he can spent his last days comfortably at home with his parents. One can only hope that never happens here. ...
