Paul Ryan on Ayn Rand

Posted: Aug 16, 2012

I have been hearing that Paul Ryan worships Ayn Rand saying the following:   "I just want to speak to you a little bit about Ayn Rand and what she meant to me in my life and [in] the fight we're engaged here in Congress. I grew up on Ayn Rand, that's what I tell people."   "I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are."

I have to admit I did not know anything about Any Rand, so I looked her up.  I am absolutely shocked to find she is a Russian atheist who was pro-abortion.

How did this guy get on the conservative ticket?    A Mormon for president and pro-abortion atheist for vice-president?  That is crazy.  This is the US.

he's denying any such infatuation. As proven by Romney, in the republican party, your current claims are what matter most, regardless of previous statements, facts, etc.

He's already flip flopped on that - Al Fabbet

This is the first article I came across. I've heard several different stories... this one claims that he stated he shared her beliefs during his youth (in 2005...lol).

Admiration is different than worship - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't know where you have been "hearing" that. Every site I read it says he admired her and some of her philosophies inspire him. Much different than "worship". You know like Marx and communist people Obama worships.

As for the insult about having a president who is mormon....WHO CARES!!! You obviously don't care that we have a president who is muslim. I don't care about their religion. I care about their experience.

Your post would have been more credible if it wasn't filled with lies. Get the facts straight. It would be a Mormon president (which over half the country doesn't care about his religion - besides you do know Mormons believe in God don't you - no, didn't think you did) and the next VP is a Catholic.

Research people. Now we know why it's called BSNBC/MSLSD

Assigning Rand as REQUIRED reading - for his congressional staff

[ In Reply To ..]
goes a tad beyond admiration. Wonder if he gives pop quizzes?

Speaking of a post full of lies, you do realize the Moslem thing IS pure myth, and that they too believe in G/god, don't you? No? Didn't think you did. Even if that were true, WHO CARES!!!!

But wait. I'm confused. If you don't care about religion, why even bring up the Moslem myth, or respond to the Mormon thing in the first place? After all, it's of no consequence, since half the country doesn't care he's a Mormon, and stuff. Right?

As for the other half that does care, my RINO sister who's been disenfranchised by party wingers since 2008, had been undecided until Romney was nominated. She has very strong opinions on some things that, at times, border on bigotry. This time the bigotry backfired on all over the GOP. Why? Because she thinks Mormons are creepy and "cultish." She also thinks they subjugate women.

By choice, she never had any children, something she could have never engineered without the use of birth control, so if she had any lingering doubts before last week, the personhood Catholic guy Romney veeped on Saturday would have been the clencher. She's voting for Obama. Said it right out loud last time we visited.

As is Saul Alinsy for Obama staff, not to mention - Communist Weekly

[ In Reply To ..]
Big deal....my entire family (73) is voting for Romney because they think Obama is "creepy" and a consummate liar. Your point?
Why are you posting this when you know its not true? - What's the point?
[ In Reply To ..]
In my post, anectdotal evidence is called a "case in point," which is a device often used in rhetorical debate formats. The process by which my sister evolved from the R to the D column is raised and examined to directly refute the OP's assertion that nobody cares about the candidate's religion.

Your family "story" is used to conflate a blatent lie 73 times over, or what?
They're probably just following your lead dear - and what
[ In Reply To ..]
proof do you have it's a "lie". Watch the namecalling...you might be driving newbies off the board and don't want them to get discouraged by the hate filled, namecalling rhetoric.
Here's my proof. - Where's yours?
[ In Reply To ..]
The onus is on me to prove my claim that Ayn Rand is required reading for his staff. I'm assuming that Paul Ryan's very own words will suffice. Please note the link I have provided also has many embedded citations to other sources. Your attention is drawn to bullet paragraph #3:

• "I just want to speak to you a little bit about Ayn Rand and what she meant to me in my life and [in] the fight we're engaged here in Congress. I grew up on Ayn Rand, that's what I tell people."

• "I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are."

• "It's inspired me so much that it's required reading in my office for all my interns and my staff. We start with Atlas Shrugged. People tell me I need to start with The Fountainhead then go to Atlas Shrugged [laughter]. There's a big debate about that. We go to Fountainhead, but then we move on, and we require Mises and Hayek as well."

• "But the reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand."

• "And when you look at the twentieth-century experiment with collectivism -- that Ayn Rand, more than anybody else, did such a good job of articulating the pitfalls of statism and collectivism -- you can't find another thinker or writer who did a better job of describing and laying out the moral case for capitalism than Ayn Rand."

• "It's so important that we go back to our roots to look at Ayn Rand's vision, her writings, to see what our girding, under-grounding [sic] principles are."

• "Because there is no better place to find the moral case for capitalism and individualism than through Ayn Rand's writings and works."

Now, I trust we have cleared up my side of things. Since I already know your counter-claim is bogus, it would be a waste of time for me to research YOUR stuff, so the time has come for you to step up to the plate and substantiate your own assertions. Here's how it works. You can either cough up the proof, or you can hem and haw around, try unleashing a school of red herrings, refuse to play ball (thus losing by default), or pull a Romney on us and fabricate more lies. The ball's in your court, dear. What's it gonna be?

Another lie - was never "assigned reading" - A lie from the liberals? Go figure

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I know Moslems believe in God...duh! That's no myth either. Your last part of the sentence doesn't make sense. Hint, when you want to copy something someone says, at least have it make sense. Didn't know that, huh?

I could care less if any candidate is Moslem, Mormon, Christian, Hindu, etc, etc, etc, but evidently the poster with the ignorant words of Paul Ryan being an athiest did. Unfortunately, when people spread the lies spewed by MSLSD/BSNBC it backfires when they have no proof.

Could care less who your sister votes for. Right up their with the Obama stash lady. She's voting good for her. Wish she would educate herself about issues first though, but hey not everyone in the country is political saavy and understands what is going on.
The more you debunk the Liberal "lies" the more - they react like a hive of bees
[ In Reply To ..]
They are all over here today crying the blues about how they are attacked. Look at the crap they've posted since the mass exodus was threatened (which BTW never happened, darn). They have not posted one issue post; just garbage they think tears down Romney and then they write the usual intolerant comments to go with it.

Problem is, though, they got the poster boy of failure and lies, Obama, and cannot defend his pitiful excuse of a record. A liberal "lies"...Go figure, it starts from Obama all the way down.

Thank you for posting this. I agree with every one of those points.

Good for Paul Ryan. GO REPUBLICANS!!!

Still not finding anything to show for certain that it is required reading. I think people in his staff are adults enough to decide what to read. But if it is it will make them better people

It would do you well to remember that. You see here in the U.S. there are many people. We are open to all nationalities, religion, etc. Heck, we even voted for a Muslim president. How great it that! You see, here in the U.S. some of the people of this country are tolerant of others. A lot of us know how to research and pick out the lies. But unfortunately there are those who don't. Some who are so hateful and spiteful they don't care whether something is a lie or not, they'll just keep repeating it hoping that maybe it would be true.

A good man for president and a better man for vice-president. Go Romney and Ryan. What's crazy is people spreading what they know is a lie. But then again this is the U.S. All crazies are welcome.

Good for you, great summation - Shows you exactly where the tolerance is

The lie is she said Ryan was an Athiest. Don't know which is worse, spreading a lie knowing it's one or being too hateful you hope by posting the same lie over and over that you hope by some magical spell it will come true.

Ryan is a Catholic. But then the poster already knew that.

Can't believe the hate some people have towards anyone not in their club has devoided them of any critical thinking skills.

More than 125 times in our history, Presidents (including in recent times Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump) have taken military actions without the approval of Congress.  Obama is an interesting case in point.  He sought approval from Congress to launch attacks in Libya, failed to get it and then launched the attacks anyway, arguing that he had the Constitutional and legal authority to do so (which he did).  Two years later, after the chemical attacks in Syria, Obama's ...
