Obama's speech tonight

Posted: Sep 8, 2011

My fellow Americans.....this isn't my fault.  I inherited this from Bush.  Although I'm well into my first term, this still isn't my fault.  Now congress is to blame.  I want to spend...I'm sorry...I mean...invest money in public sector jobs because the unions contribute to my campaign and I want to make sure that I support union jobs while making things harder in the private sector.  Republicans are evil.  The rich...even though I'm rich....are evil.  Everyone who is against me or disagrees with me at all is racist.  I refuse to listen to anyone about anything.  But hey....republicans need to be civil and compromise but those on the left can continue to use hate speech and violent rhetoric and I'll turn a blind eye and deaf ear to that.  Also, I want the rich to pay more taxes even though there are 50% of Americans who don't pay taxes at all...because that's fair, right? Just to reiterate...not my fault...blame Bush and republicans....I wanna spend more of your money but I'm not calling this a stimulus package...even though that is essentially what this is going to be.  I just don't want to use that term since the last stimulus package failed to stimulate anything and was merely a payoff to unions and special interest groups.  Anyway...goodnight.  God Bless.  Oh wait...can't reference God anymore because that pi$$es off atheists.  Forget I said anything about God.  Peace out!

You people are so ridiculous it isn't funny. Our unemployment is up, our national debt is up under Obama with no jobs created at all in the month of August and yet that is okay with you? Seems to me that too many of you are worshipping Obama instead of holding his feet to the fire to keep the promises he made during his campaign.

One thing that President Obama does not get - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
is that it is the private sector that needs to be stimulated to boost the economy and get it going in the right direction again....not the public sector.

I will watch his speech tonight but I fear it will be the same old thing regurgitated from his prior speeches with more lecturing and finger pointing at others.

I agree - sm

A healthy private sector based on free enterprise is the dog that wags the tail of the public sector, not the other way around as so many seem to want to believe nowadays.

The answer to creating jobs and growing our economy is based on one thing and one thing only: Confidence … on the part of business leaders and entrepreneurs to see the future and be able to plan with some sort of high degree of expectation and assurance.

They want to know that the costs of inputs will be affordable in the next three to five years. They want to know they can get credit made readily available by banks and financial institutions to be able to fund new research, growth and development of new products, and services. They want the freedom to make as much profit as their marketing and process management skills will allow.

Right now, today, the majority of business executives, both large and small, are essentially ‘on strike’ and won’t invest in or expand their businesses until they do feel much more confident about the prospects for their future. No matter how much President Obama demeans them or criticizes them or tries to regulate them out of business.

Tax rate levels and funding education and infrastructure are not ‘the’ determinative factor to whether entrepreneurs or business people borrow against the home equity in their house, max out 10 credit cards, and beg and borrow money from family and friends to A) Start a business or B) Expand their existing business.

Confidence is.

Why should anyone take a huge risk today in the face of all this economic turmoil and confusion and higher taxes on the horizon when the ‘safest’ thing to do is to maintain the status quo and merely try to stay in business at existing levels and ride this storm out?

This is something our president has no clue about and it is obvious every time he opens his mouth.

I sincerely believe that a couple of years ago if that stimulus money had been given to us individually we would be in much better shape right now in this country. Think about it. If every American had been given even 100K, each of us would have spent it in a certain way. Some would have paid their mortgages off. Some would have traveled. Some would have paid off their bills. Some would have purchased homes. Some would have remodeled their homes. Some would have purchased new or used vehicles. Of course, some would have gambled it away. It would have saved many, many from foreclosure. In any case, money in the hands of private citizens would have stimulated the economy in every way possible. But no, he gave it to a few select entities that have no effect on most of us poor, little guys down here. Nothing that he did with the stimulus money benefited me and my family in any way and nothing has improved!! He ought to be ashamed!

Hitting the nail on the head. - azsun

Individual or household stimulus would have made way more sense, especially if it could have helped stabilize home prices. Some economists believe that until the housing market improves, the overall economy will suffer.

The last time stimulus money was given to the American people directly, we were able to take a long-deserved road trip with the family. Cash spent on food, lodging, entertainment...all to the benefit of businesses who in turn pumped that money into other segments of the economy.

Too funny! Peace out! - nm

tax credits for businesses that hire people in this country? Tax credits for small businesses. tax credits for middle class Americans so they can spend more. People in the welfare system working for those checks. Changing trade rules so other countries buy more of our products made here. Hmm..Did you take a potty break during those things.

only potty break is to go throw up. - another Independent

We've heard all that before. What Obama is good at is reading his speeches that someone wrote for him. If we are not impressed it's because we've heard it. Now he needs to actually DO something.

Well, - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
he tries and the republicans stop it every time.

I saw a poll on tv the other day that had Obama's approval rate: 47% approve, 52% disapprove. Republicans approval rate: 12% approve, 87% disapprove. Kind of says a little bit, doesn't it?

I think people are realizing pubs are out to feed the rich and starve the poor.

Flame if you want, run Obama down all you want. I'm just stating facts. The president is trying to work with the pubs, it is they who won't budge. They are only interested in doing things that benefit the rich and won't support anything Obama has to offer, even though he is trying to work with them. He is trying to do what the majority of the population wants, which is creating jobs, helping small businesses, fixing our infrastructure and focusing on education in this country, while the pubs only want to do what benefits the top minority and make their bank accounts larger.

The president wants to give credits to corporations for hiring American workers and working on the trade agreements so more of our products are used around the world. Do you find that offensive? If so, I sure hope you aren't one of the ones on the MT boards complaining about losing our jobs to other countries.
What I do know is this.. - another Independent
[ In Reply To ..]
He had a democratic congress and they still did nothing, hence the reason the pubs got the majority.

What I do know is that when asked when he was going to bring jobs back from offshore, he said he wasn't, nobody wanted them anyway (the first live internet town hall meeting).

What I do know is that he can read a speech. When the American people need to listen is when he answers questions when he's left without a speechwriter. That's when his true feelings come out (i.e. the live town hall meetings).

I truly feel if the dems want to win the next election, they need to find somebody else to run, because I don't think he's going to win a second term.

It sounded good to me. Now he needs bipartisan - support to enact the bill. nm

Those on here saying that the President has a my way or the highway attitude better rethink that. He had good ideas from both sides. It has been that the republicans want it their way or the highway. The President even said this is a start and wants to work more with both parties for more ideas on what to do. I think he is being very fair with ideas from both sides.
How blind you all are. - sm

How many times have we heard Obama say he wanted to work together and then turn around and tell republicans their bill was DOA and that they are the ones who need to compromise. I swear some of you love this guy so much that you are virtually incapable of seeing him for the thug he is. If he sat on your lap and farted on you, you would find that charming too, huh?

I guess it is better to let all our roads fall apart so we can complain about how bad our roads are but let those wealthy have their tax loopholes. By the way, they use the roads too, probably more than us since we can't afford gas and they can thanks to the loopholes they get. Why should those constructions guys have a chance to work while helping our infrastructure?

Yes, we should keep laying off teachers so our kids can become as educated as 3rd world countries. Then we can keep bringing in "smart people" from other countries to fill the jobs that we can't because we don't have any people qualified to do them. Gee, it would be a real shame to add a few tax dollars to the wealthiest so we can help educate our kids. We certainly don't want those wealthy people to have to suffer by having less in their overstuffed bank accounts.

Why should we offer tax incentives to hire people in this country; that would take away their profits from using sweatshop labor in other countries and employ people in this country, especially since all those tax breaks and loopholes were supposed to help create jobs in this country but didn't. They have to have a specific tax credit to do so and this offers a nice credit for doing so.

Obama's Incoherent Immigration SpeechNov 22, 2014
By Ramesh Ponnuru "I count three ways President Barack Obama's speech on immigration last night contradicted itself. First, there was the absolutist language he used to justify his policy -- coupled with restrictions that aren't compatible with such language.
