New Study Proves Reaganomics Supporters Are Stupid Science-Denying Idiots!
by Omar Rivero April 22, 2013 Economic Issues

According to a new study by Psychological Science, those who believe in popular conservative free market economic theory are also more likely to not believe in science. This assertion should not come as a major surprise to any honest observer, but we now have empirical proof to support it.

The study found that Americans who endorse free-market economic theories, which argue that the “magic hand” of the free market allows the markets to regulate themselves, and that markets work better with little, if any, government intervention, are more likely to deny climate change.

Based on a survey of climate blog visitors, the research team found that Americans who endorse free-market economics are much more likely to reject other widely accepted scientific theories. This should not surprise anybody. Anybody that, after witnessing the BP oil spill, the big banks nearly imploding the global financial economy with toxic American mortgage-backed securities, and predatory health insurance companies leaving over 35,000,000 uninsured Americans to fend for themselves, still believes that big banks and multinational corporations can regulate themselves, is either intellectually dishonest or simply refusing to acknowledge reality. According to the study, “Endorsement of free-market economics predicted rejection of climate science. Endorsement of free markets also predicted the rejection of other established scientific findings, such as the facts that HIV causes AIDS and that smoking causes lung cancer.”

Of course, we know that most prominent free-market backers go to great lengths to fund anti-government paranoia and anti-regulatory sentiment in order to stop the government from placing stricter environmental and financial regulations on their businesses. The billionaire Koch brothers are the best example, having funded several groups that push free-market ideology in addition to groups that claim that global warming is a hoax promulgated by lefty environmentalists.

However, research as to why ordinary Americans would follow their lead and champion policies that destroy the environment and the American middle-class is relatively new. In general, social scientists agree that American conservatives tend to be skeptical of government, a trait that manifests itself in other aspects of their ideology.

This anti-government paranoia serves as an intellectual shield, one that they use to ward off Liberals when we present to them the sad reality that trickle-down Reaganomics, loose financial regulations, and a complete and utter lack of environmental regulations are destroying the environment, the environment, and middle-class.
Now, we have empirical research that proves that their aversion to facts and reality does not stem from an ideological opposition regarding a single issue, but instead manifests itself across their entire political ideology and across several key issues. Make some noise about these findings by sharing this and other related articles with your friends and family, so that we can all gain a better understanding of the conservative mindset and use this understanding to change their hearts and minds.

This Earth Day, we remind the stupid science-denying TEApublicans: Climate Change is no joke.

Scientific principals can be applied to economics, and guess what? By any objective SCIENTIFIC standard, the invisible hand works, the central command structure does not.

Contrast the amazing 100 years of growth in every arena of human endeavor in the free western world versus the stifling enconomic control and consequent poverty (and crushingly cruel government) of the former USSR and communist China which is now moving toward free markets and consequently becoming wealthy.

How's that market economy "magic hand" working out for - those Bangladesh garment workers?

[ In Reply To ..]
You know, those workers who were injured or died today while earning $37/mo so the brass at WalMart, Sears, The Gap, Hilfiger, et al can prosper while many of their stateside employees fail to make a living wage? Do tell.

what does that make you? - anon

Obviously you are completely unaware that the "science" was bogus. There was a whistle blower a couple of years ago at the major London center where this baloney was started that said any evidence that contradicted that global warming was happening was thrown out and disregarded. You will not find anyone that disputes this.

About a month ago it was reported by one of the liberal media outlets, cannot remember which one, that the global warming scientists are at a loss to explain why there was some global warming a decade ago, but now it has leveled off and not continuing. They also stated they cannot explain why the polar ice caps are expanding and not shrinking anymore.

READ and RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF!!! Don't be a tool for the liberal agenda!

Have you ever wondered why they do not call it global warming anymore? It is because there is none. They could not prove it, so now they call it climate change to explain any and everything that happens that is weather-related. Science doesn't change. It is or it isn't.

Unfortunately you are probably too young to remember all of these same people predicting the coming ice age. Heard about it constantly when I was growing up. Do a little research about who is saying these things and how they have done a 180 on their "science." They make up junk to fit their agenda. Grow a brain!

grow a brain?! lol - sm

Not the poster you were responding to, but I have read your post and none of your assertions can be documented. In fact, you are merely repeating (what did you call it again?) junk.

If you want to supply references for your fact cloud, we would all appreciate it. Until then, I would think twice before flinging brain remarks around.

no global warming for the past decade-USA today - anon

Can't prove global warming one way, let's try this again. I know, the oceans are actually absorbing the heat that is supposed to warming the globe. It has gotten to the point where it is laughable watching them try to explain something that they can't find actual scientific fact for. Again, does anyone remember the 70s? We are all supposed to be blanketed under ice at this point according to the "indisputable science" of that era.

USA Today 04/11/13

Where's the heat? In the oceans!

The temperature of the Earth's atmosphere has been essentially the same for the past decade or so, providing ammunition for skeptics of human-caused climate change. (This despite the fact that of the nine hottest years on record, eight have occurred since 2000, according to the National Climatic Data Center).

USA Today 04/11/13

The temperature of the Earth's atmosphere has been essentially the same for the past decade or so, providing ammunition for skeptics of human-caused climate change. (This despite the fact that of the nine hottest years on record, eight have occurred since 2000, according to the National Climatic Data Center).

However, a recent study found that heat absorbed by the world's oceans has increased significantly over the same period, prompting the study co-authors to say that the warming has been diverted and is heating the oceans instead of the atmosphere.

The study was published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, a publication of the American Geophysical Union.

The current "hiatus" in atmospheric warming is temporary, says study co-author Kevin Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., during a telephone press conference Thursday morning. "Global warming is continuing but manifesting itself differently," he says
nice spin, but that's hardly what the article said - sm

While I'm sure the phrase "ammunition for skeptics" grabbed you, I don't think you understood the article.

I have provided a link for those interested in reading the article for themselves.

"Over 90% of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases winds up warming the oceans," said Josh Willis, a scientist with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory during the press conference. "Oceans cover two-thirds of the earth's surface, so it's expected that they'll play a large role in how climate change and global warming play out."
you missed my point - anon

Since the article is in USA Today, a fairly left of center paper, I am not surprised of the slant. Of course they have to quote those trying to still explain global warming at the same time confirming that the actual temp of the earth has been stable for a decade. It is either warming or it isn't. Sorry, don't buy the new explanation as to why the temps have been stable for a decade.

Been down this road with ice age folks. They swore and had all trotted out all the scientific data to fit the idea of the coming ice age. Exact same thing, only the earth was getting colder then. Heard it for years and years. Until it never actually got colder and they had to move on.

Winter 2012 set a record for ice growth at the north pole. Temps are stable for a decade. Soon it will be time to find a new environmental "disaster" to exploit for profit. That is all this really is. Exploitation by greedy people. I find it hard to believe any of them actually care that much about the earth's climate.

another swing and a miss. North up; south down. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
There is no ice growth at the north pole, anon. There is ice growth in the ANTarctic. Arctic ice in the north continues to melt at a record-breaking pace.

"In fact, in late September, satellite data indicated that Antarctica was surrounded by the greatest area of sea ice ever recorded in the region: 7.51 million square miles (19.44 million square kilometers), the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center announced Thursday. Even so, it's a slow rate of growth—about one percent over last year—not nearly enough to offset melting in the Arctic, which broke records just weeks ago."
regarding the ice age argument - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
"The argument rests on an equivocation. In the 1970s, 'they' refers to a handful of scientists making tentative predictions, and a handful of journalists who repeated those predictions. Today, 'they' refers to every single major scientific body in the world. There's just no valid comparison."

"In fact, back in the 1970s, more scientists were worried about global warming than its opposite. As USA Today reported last year, Thomas Peterson of the National Climatic Data Center surveyed 71 peer-reviewed articles from 1965 to 1979 and found that only seven predicted falling temperatures. Some 44 predicted warming, and another 20 were neutral."

Excuse me, the SOUTH pole. Did not relook up the article, was going by memory.

That is hysterical about the 1970s. Pure revisionist history. I lived it. Believe me, there was as much continuous coverage with the more limited media of that day regarding the coming ice age as there is with global warming now. "Tentative predictions." LOL! More were worried about global warming. JEEZ. That is hysterical. Even if his stats are true, kind of proves my point. Apparently everyone decided to jump on the bandwagon and believe the few who were so "tentative" about falling temps. because it was everywhere at the time. Apparently they completely ignored the majority of scientists predicting the global warming point of view and took a very small minorities "tentative predictions" as fact and reported it as such. That they are having to come out now to say this only further proves my point. If a only a few "tentative scientists" where predicting cooling, but most were predicting global warming, why is it they need to address this at all. Mainly it was a big deal back then. If it hadn't been, no one would remember it now for them to need to "correct" the history.

in your initial post above you stated "they cannot explain why the polar ice caps are expanding and not shrinking anymore." It is evident your memory is inaccurate; regardless, you continue to post spurious information while suggesting others "grow a brain". I recommend you read the entire article I posted - not just the excerpt with the word "tentative" in it - which you also mis-referenced as "tentative scientists". Psst. I lived through the 70s also.

MY POINT IS, we have been through this before. This is big business at work, period. Big environmental business, but it is big business nothing more or less.

A Little Science On Conspiracy Theory BelieversMay 06, 2011
To sum up the article:  "We found that in their search for explanations under such uncertain and confusing conditions, people rely partly on projection -- the assumption that others would behave much as they would." *** Some of the truths I have learned in my life:  It seems like the ones who "squawk" the loudest are the ones who have the most guilt or are hiding something.  Also, the person who most emphatically tells me "I would never do that" is most likely the same pers ...

BO's Science Czar's COMMIE ConnectionsMar 05, 2010
Yet another (they are countless!) commie "friend" of B.O.'s, and this one serves in an (unconstitutional) advisory position to the interloper. You should pay attention to his ideology because this is the guy whose ideas shape "health care reform," or the socialized medicine/uber state-control GRID that we all are soon to be oppressed by.  Holdren, the "science czar," has wrtiten that eventually, once you are ASSIGNED YOUR FEDERAL NUMBER (which will in turn be used to MONITOR ever ...

Media Blackout On DNC Lawsuit Proves That It's May 15, 2017
I had the privilege of interviewing my newest personal hero yesterday, attorney Elizabeth Lee Beck, about her legal team’s fraud case against the Democratic National Committee. One of the many useful insights that this straight-shooting mom on fire brought to light during our conversation was her story about a time she reached out to New York Times reporter Michael Barbaro to get some help cracking through the deep, dark media blackout on this extremely important case. Barbaro had previously i ...

Racism Still Blights Southern US Juries: StudyJun 08, 2010
By Agence France-PresseMonday, June 7th, 2010 -- 11:00 am Having an "out of wedlock child" was enough to remove a black juror from a 1998 Mississippi murder trial involving an African-American and a white victim. Since then, nothing much has changed in the old south, a newly released study has said. When it was all over, Alvin Robinson was found guilty by a jury of 10 whites and two blacks, and sentenced to 20 years behind bars for a murder he claimed was in self defense. Two years later, an ...

Chamber Of Commerce's Energy Institute StudyMay 28, 2014
I love the way this adninistration has tunnel vision where people are concerned. They don't give a rat's patootie if people lose their jobs. They only want to kill fossil fuel and IT'S A KNOWN FACT that the U.S. has done MORE to eliminate carbon from the earth than every 3rd world country, plus Russia with China being the #1 polluter. Don't you think they should at least take a look at the statistics? This institute has been studying this subject since at least 2011.   ...

Can Climate Science Be Rendered Conservative-Friendly?Aug 23, 2013
Proponents say messages could be framed to better appeal to basic instincts. As in, "Climate denier, climate denier, fly away home. Your house is on fire and your children all alone." But pointing out the very serious national security dangers surprisingly just made them angry and dismissive. We obviously have to try, but but I'm guessing many will still be dutifully protecting the Koch brothers' manufacturing plants when they're sitting in public shelters and the Koch brothers ...
