This is the time when it's supposed to trickle down, adding jobs and increasing salaries!

Where's the outrage from the left that GE paid ZERO dollars in taxes last year? Is it because Jeffrey Immelt was appointed to Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board or their connections to MSNBC? Or both?

Do any of the corporations pay taxes? I don't think GE is the exception - Outraged about all of them

[ In Reply To ..]
I think they all are disgusting, but outrage gets us nowhere. They have the money, plenty of it since they don't pay taxes, so they have the power. I think they win and the middle-class workers lose.

Corporations don't pay taxes cuz they've been - running this country for years.

The working poor who pay their taxes but have lost their homes to foreclosure or eviction due to not being able to pay their rent should pitch their tents and set up camp on the CEOs' lawns.

Who writes the tax code/loopholes? Congress. Specifically, The Ways and Means Committee, run by tax-cheater and now censured (big deal) Charlie Rangel. From 1975–present; Ranking member 1996–2006; Chair 2007–2010 (leave of absence for part of 2010).

Then get Congress to change tax laws. - They are the only ones who can.

The "trickle down" theory is a MYTH. - Nothing trickles down. ZILCH. NADA.

I couldn't agree with you more that the trickle-down theory is a myth - Sigh!

[ In Reply To ..]
I wish we could change these things, but the truth is, the changes are going to come out of the purses and wallets of the middle class and the poor, because we have no power. If we try to do anything with the corporations, they say not to mess with them or they will take their stuff and move to the Bahamas!

You do realize that "the corporations" are made - up of stockholders

[ In Reply To ..]
and not all of them are rich stockholders, that they employ hundreds of thousands of people....a lot of whom are middle class people. The CEO is only the guy at the top who, incidentally, is responsible for bringing in those big profits to keep the dividend checks going out to the stockholders...so what do you propose? Kill the corporation, all those people are now without dividend checks and/or jobs.

Is that really the answer? You talk about "corporations" like there is no one there but the millionaire CEO.
Corporations go as far back as the Middle - Ages, when they were
[ In Reply To ..]
formed for the public good - it was a mutualistic relationship between community and corp. That is no longer the case for most large corps and many will argue that there is more plundering than mutuality. Look at Shell Oil in Nigeria and Nestle in the Mid west US and India. Capitalism, in theory, was based on reward for innovation and products/services that also benefitted the public and greater good. Though corporations might employ many people, look at the way it is now done. Few people are being "rewarded" for work, ideas, innovation. There used to be a minimum of false advertising, claims, scams, and now this is prevalent and nothing happens. Yes - they employ lots of folks, but many exploit many of them.
Then what is your answer? Dissolve the - corporations and in

doing so all those jobs lost, income lost from the dividend checks? I am not entirely sure, as I cannot document your statement about few people being rewarded for work, ideas, innovation. There are a LOT of corporations in this country and I really don't think what you describe is the "norm." Oil companies and big banks are not the only corporations.

I also cannot document that false advertising, claims, and scams are prevalent in all corporations or even the majority of them. I am not sure where you are getting your information.

What is worse, having a job and being "exploited" or not having a job at all? What exactly do you mean by "exploited?"

We really can't close all the banks, all the car manufacturers, retail outlets, middle class "S" corporations....where would you get your cars, your groceries, your clothes...

Do you have an answer for these things? What would you suggest be done? Government takeover of corporations and redistribution of their "wealth?"

You seem to be on top of everything that you perceive to be wrong but don't offer any solutions...just wondering what you think the answer is.
The point was that capitalism has changed. - Corporations have much
[ In Reply To ..]
more control now than they did historically. The problem with an economy based on consumer spending has led to the issues we now have. I'm not suggesting corporations be dissolved, but they should be held accountable for destruction they leave behind. The catch-22 is the "idea" of a free market (really a free for all) - to regulate or not to regulate.
Good points. - I am sad to have to agree with you
[ In Reply To ..]
It doesn't look good. Corporations make MORE money if they lay off employees. If they can automate, they make even more millions plus bonuses plus many other extras just in case they lose their jobs. They have a major win/win situation while everyone else works to pay for those yachts, multi-mega-mansions, etc.
CEOs are the only ones who are doing well. - It should not be that way
[ In Reply To ..]
They should be paid well, but something has happened over the last few years. They are the only ones who are doing well. It shouldn't be that way.
They are not the only ones doing well. If the - stockholders were not
[ In Reply To ..]
doing well the CEO would lose his job. His job is to make profits so their dividend checks keep rolling. You are aware that is how corporations work, right?
As a stockholder, I can't outvote those with millions of dollars of stock voting privileges - The rich win again
[ In Reply To ..]
The CEO won't lose his job even if he takes things overseas, hurts America, and causes American citizens to go without while he makes an unspeakable amount of money. Those with the most money get the most votes.
What is your answer then? Dissolve all - corporations and let the

don't do their research on a politician before they vote. They listen to all the crap and like what they hear, so vote for that person.

If people would be more aware of the politician's background how he voted in congress, opened their eyes to see if they really represented us (the reason they are supposedly running for office in the first place), who where their friends before becoming a politician, maybe then the power of the people would stop the bull being dished out to us 24/7.

Until then, we ARE weak and have no power. It's up to the American people to change it, then congress, not the other way around.
Good points. It is also important for - people to vote

Depression for some and more luxury than ever before for others. When I look at our economy over the last 5-6 years, I see a very wide range of properity vs. economic depression. I truly believe that those in the poor-to-middle class are headed for depression, while the news this week was that corporations had their best year since 1900. They just aren't sharing with the rest of us. ...

In particular, mainstream Protestant denominations are cashing in on the windfall by offering their services as charitable experts to help resettle the new arrivals. Sanders Confronts Corporations For TaxJun 17, 2015
Sorry, no MTSOs. Today, a group of 80 CEOs are lecturing Congress about the need to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while lowering tax rates for millionaires, billionaires, and the largest corporations in America. These are some of the same CEOs who head corporations that: ď‚· received a total taxpayer bailout of more than $2.5 trillion from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department and nearly caused the economy to collapse just four years ago; ď‚· outsourced hundreds of ...

Flash: What Corporations Do Or Do Not Pay In TaxesJan 10, 2016
Bernie Sanders is like a magician..."Watch this", while he palms the coin.  Now, just try this statement on for size: "XYZ Oil Corporation paid no taxes last year.  That's the reason I'm broke, working in a dead-end job, driving a junker, saddled with debt and hoping to hit the lottery." Bernie Sanders hopes you buy into that nonsense - and some will, because of course everything is the fault of someone else, but millions won't buy it, and that's why Sanders will ...

According To Smart Money Magazine, Here Is What Corporations Are DoingMar 12, 2011
"Yes, companies have boosted profits—to near-record levels—by slashing costs." That's also what I have been seeing. The companies are making more money than ever before, taking advantage of those tax breaks, but they are pleasing stockholders by cutting costs (and people) in order to do it. That's very good business for them, but not so much for Americans who need to work. This is not a political comment, because it has been happening under both administrations.   ...

4 Poll Numbers That Should Unnerve Hillary ClintonJul 27, 2015
