Medical Insurance Coverage: Will We Receive Any?

Posted: Nov 15, 2012

Now that the elections are over, it seems Obamacare will be going into effect. What do you think the MTSOs are going to do?  The new law will require all businesses with over 50 employees to offer insurance.

It really would be nice if the large companies did the right thing and offered insurance without having to meet line count guidelines. Insurance being tied to line count always leaves a bad taste in the mouth of employees because when work is low, you don't meet the qualifications for coverage.  This also would be an area where companies could cheat and keep lines low or outsource a portion of the work to make sure everyone stayed under the mandatory line count for coverage.

I am anxious to hear from you ladies and what you feel the possibilities will be in the coming year.  I say year because we are basically already in 2013 and this insurance policy ramps up in 2014.

;

I'm pretty darnedsure anyone who doesn't qualify - for company insurance will for programs

through the state exchanges. That's what I'm waiting for. One of the programs will be government-backed and nonprofit. I want the profit motive out of my healthcare equation, and I want my personal health issues to be none of my employer's business.

BTW, this year at Nuance? $5000 annual deductible, then after it's met the policy starts paying EXCEPT for 25% coinsurance on everything, except where it's more, plus deductions for usual and customary, plus of course what it doesn't cover at all.

At one time I would have winced and shrugged at a $5000 deductible, but after having my income drop to less than half in 3 years (I was already fast and good, no room to improve more) I literally cannot afford to go to the doctor.

just so you know.... - anon

your dreamworld of what Obamacare is "supposed to be" just ain't gonna be all roses and light like you think it is. It is going to be just as costly as what you are paying now, with plenty of restrictions on what you will and won't be able to have as far as healthcare, people over 60 will not receive as much care as the younger generation because "they are just going to die anyway," and everybody's taxes are going to be sky high to pay for this. You shall see. rose colored glasses.

Just so you know there isn't a grain of truth to a - a single claim in this spew.

There is no such animal as means testing in the private company insurance world. There will be plan choice similar to existing employer sponsored group plans with one significant difference. The insurance pool will be much larger than those types of plans which will help keep the premiums more affordable.

I am currently using a county system since I am unemployed and can say from first-hand experience I have received MORE referrals to specialists, more routine laboratory, x-ray, sonographic, MRI and nuclear testing, both preventative and diagnostic (since I have diabetes) that aims to CONTAIN costs by PREVENTING systemic advance of the condition, and I passed 60 several years ago.

I pay $3 for a clinic visit regardless of physician specialty, $8 for dental appointments, $8 for a 30-day prescription, $10 for a 90-day supply, $25 for ER and day surgery procedures and $50 for an inpatient hospital stay per day. For x-rays and lab done on the same day as the clinic visit, I pay the $3 ONCE, not for each diagnostic referral. They accept Medicare and Medicaid patients, who pay no county co-pays unless they receive services that Medicare DOES NOT COVER, in which case they pay the above costs.

I plan to continue my care there when I qualify for Medicare. Why? Because my attending FP physician, who is motivated by quality patient care, not huge private practice profits, is THE MOST excellent physician I have ever had, has "bedside manner" I thought had gone by the wayside long ago with the advent of managed care private insurance schemes, and gives me all the time I need during my visits, despite the facility's appointment time limit policies. I had a breathing treatment recently for acute bronchitis which she stayed after hours to administer personally. She's also a tenured professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Yes, the waiting rooms at clinic are always full and an appointment can take up more than half my day, a small price to pay in return for the care I get there. I simply pack a lunch and bring a book, that often never gets inspected since the environment there is void of the isolation and social anomie typically encountered in private practice settings. Patients and staff are friendly and welcoming of each other, a feature I have learned to truly enjoy, since it gives me a sense of connection to my community. My clinic facility is within walking distance of my home.

You are speaking from a place of uninformed, if not willfully ignorance, and have been taken in by partisan propaganda that failed to produce its desired results.

This is absolutely not true! She will be able...sm - VTMT

just because it has not affected the rose colored glasses people...yet...does not mean it is not true! I personally know quite a few people who have already been affected by the advent of Obamacare and it has not been a good one, either. and Obamacare is not even officially active yet! I am not uninformed, but I do listen to what other people have to say and hear how their experiences have affected their lives and their healthcare. To believe the rhetoric spewed out about this glorious new bill that will provide "free" healthcare to everyone, is just that...rhetoric. It was the main thing that got this present president reelected and I am so afraid you are all going to be so highly disappointed! You shall see.

Again - who

[ In Reply To ..]
said anything about "free" healthcare? Don't know why some of you keep insisting that people that voted for Obama think there is free healthcare. Whose spewing rhetoric? You

Do you believe insurance should not cover maternity costs also.  It is a lady's choice to become pregnant, so is that the same category of covering birth control pills.  How about should employers be allowed to deny coverage of pregnancy if mother is not married.  That might violate some employers religious beliefs to pay for illegitimate children.
