If this politics board is any gauge, this is so true...

Hmmmmm.... No, turns out I'm in the minority, so this is actually an indictment.

:) MTs as a gruop are least educated of all colleagues I've - worked with. We probably match

[ In Reply To ..]
the greater population in those percentages anyway, but the average level of pretend thought and knowledge is notably lower than other boards I attend, where most have degrees and almost all at least some college.

That's not to say smart and decently read people aren't here, just that the "thought" level is much more immediately evident. College teaches people to search out reliable facts (if they want to pass their classes), so it may take reading the whole post on another board to realize it's just quoting some low-feeding propaganda blogger, trying to disguise the source behind fancier phraseology.
Maybe up your game, then. - -

:) I became an MT so I could live in the country, - designed my house inspired by the

book, "The Barefoot House," gave away my last business suit when I could no longer fit in it, and started visiting MTStars. Up my game? That's still about where it always was, which is pretty much what I was saying above.

People with strings of degrees and high school dropouts all copy and paste the words of others to support their opinions. It's what you can get away with in the group you're swimming with that separates them.
Sorry it didn't work out for you - You sound so unhappy.

Best-laid plans, etc.?
No, we're in the country near our son and family, and I'm - at our little vacation place in Florida right now.

I'm going biking down to a state park with friends in a little while. We also bought a third home during the recession that brings a decent rental income and, ironically, is in a major city in case we need to move back in our old age. So, yes, MT pay is down, and I'm pretty sure that's the reason for the miserable, unhappy tone of these forums, but I was in decent shape when I entered the field so am not unhappy-desperate now, just a major crimp in my shopping and travel. Thanks for the sympathy, though.

Back to the topic, may I suggest reading what are considered fairly reliable journals? They will all let us down sometimes, but we end up making decisions based on what we think we know, and if we only read People, or today's version of the National Enquirer, or Breitbart, we're going to suffer.

Not really. This political board doesn't fit into what he is saying - In fact - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
In fact I'm pretty sure he wrote that for humor sake, not that it's actually true. I don't think the Obama free phone girls and the Obama cash girls, the liberals, progressives make up for 95% of the people. I have many conversations with conservatives/independents through emails and we all pretty much know (think), because we do a lot of independent research and think about the issues and how they are going to affect everyone. We don't get wrapped up in the "rock star" phenomenon that many do. We research and analyze situations and understand what they will mean for everyone.

But, no, I don't think this political board would fall into this saying he wrote. Thanks for the name though. Been doing some research on him. Interesting guy.

obama free phone girls and cash girls (!) - sm

This phrase rolls of your tongue easily enough. I guess I can see why you are not familiar with George Bernard Shaw.

P.S.: Sayings and aphorisms are never "actually true". No one takes them to be "actually true". They are simply literary devices.

One of the painful things about our time is that those who feel certainty are stupid, and those with any imagination and understanding are filled with doubt and indecision. ― Bertrand Russell

interesting quote! thanks - love Bertrand Russell

Now I'm just waiting for someone to come along and explain to us that this is not actually true. ;)

Another Observation On The Politics BoardSep 20, 2012
I have been thinking how boring and pointless this Board has gotten in the last couple of months with the incessant Obama bashing and anything Democratic or liberal.   I noticed that apparently I am not the only one thinking this because next to each post there is the counter that says how often a post is viewed.  I notice that most original posts barely get over 50 hits and most secondary posts get maybe 10 to 25.  I did a random search of the achives and found that th ...

While I understand the reasoning behind the moving of some hateful posts from the Politics board onto the Gab board due to the fact that they were not "political", I really do not appreciate them having been "dumped" into the Gab board either. some of us would rather stay away from the politics board due to the negative, horrifically snotty, rude, instigating posts made there by people with a propensity for hate and bullying. Zimmerman Posts Moved Back To Politics BoardJul 23, 2013
My reasoning for moving the Zimmerman posts here was because most the posts were just people "gabbing" about their opinion of it and was not offering any political input.  I had figured that since everyone had been talking about other trials on the gab board, this is where the posts should go.  Then the posts started getting more political and the arguing and name calling continued and I don't think anyone on the gab board was happy about that. So as political moderator I have ta ...
