I have a question....

Posted: Jul 31, 2012

This may sound like a stupid question and please do not flame me for my ignorance, but I am trying to learn and trying to make my political decision making count for something.  so here is my question.....

If a potential presidential candidate withdrew his intent to run for the presidency earlier in the year, can that potential candidate still be placed on a "write in vote?"  Or does the person we want to use for a write in vote have to still be "running for president?"

reason being, there is somebody I would like to use on a write in vote for presidency, but he is not "officially running as a candidate."  Can I still use him?  Or can we use just "anybody" for a write in candidate?

this is a serious question and I do not want any flaming or people calling me stupid or anything.  thanks.

Write Ins - Curious One

You can name anyone you want as a write in candidate, even Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

42 states allow write-ins. - sm

All of Ron Paul's supporters are writing him in if he is not on the ballot or voting for Gary Johnson in states where write-ins do not count. Paul has enough delegates to be nominated, even though Romney and GOP are attempting to steal all of his delegates. A principled vote is not a wasted one. Here is a link to a map that lists the states that do not allow write-ins and info on other states.

write-in vote - OHMT

The problem with putting a write-in vote is that your choice will not be elected, so it will basically be a wasted vote. The only way it would work is if over 50% of the voters also wrote in the same name.

You'd be better off studying the issues of the two current contenders. Look at what they've done and how they've voted on issues in the past.

With Obama, you can see what he's done and can expect more of the same. Personally, that scares the crap out of me.

Romney has government as well as private business experience. He helped a lot of companies stay afloat and prosper with Bain, and he did a good job organizing the Olympics here, and managed to make it a profitable venture (that's not always the case with the Olympics; sometimes the city makes no money in the end).

Personally, I want someone who knows how to run a business, who knows how to make a budget and stay within it, and who understands that raising taxes on the rich ends up hurting all of us down the food chain because then those business owners can't afford to hire or give raises.

Obviously, you can see where my vote will be going. But like I said, you need to cast your vote based on who you think will do the job based on what's important to you. I also had another prior contender as my first choice, but Romney won the nomination so that's what we've got to work with, and I do believe he will do a much better job than Obama in getting things turned around.

Good luck in your research!

I appreciate your answers, all of you. It has helped me to somewhat decide on who I MAY be voting for. I say MAY, because it is not definite yet. I still need to do a little research. Personally, even if who I choose does not get elected, my vote will not have been "wasted" as it would be one less vote for the ones I do NOT want to vote for in this election. I do not like either of the front running candidates right now, no matter which party they are running under. They both have their faults and I believe that either one of them could drag this country down even further than it already is with their policies. They both have their good points and bad points. My concern is with the future of this country and not just "more of the same." I do not have enough confidence in either one of them regarding their concern for our country to vote for either of them. I am not a fan of either political "party" and I do not consider myself a "liberal" or "conservative," either, or an "independent." I have my own views about how this country should be run and how it can be "saved" from the path it is already on, and the candidate I choose to "write in" will have many of the same views, ideas, and track record of past votings as I would like to see in a new president. He may not be elected, in all probability, but it will be a choice that I make based on my research, and I will not have to "follow the crowd" and I won't HAVE to vote for someone I totally disagree with, whatwith their policies and current actions, and past actions. I will be satisfied then just knowing that I feel I made the "right choice," and not followed the mainstream.

thank you again for your answers without flaming or criticizing my points of view. I appreciate it wholely. :-)

Write-in or "other" candidates - Anon, too

Personally, I can think of some companies that have stayed afloat and prospered, and I don't always like the methods they've used to do it. (Do Nuance and Medquist/M*Modal ring any bells?)

But as far as write-in candidates--though not exactly a "write-in," since he was on the ballot, but I voted for Ross Perot, knowing he had no chance of winning...mostly as a "none-of-the-above" vote. They said that the Perot votes drew votes from both Bush and Clinton equally, so I don't know if I accept that you're ensuring one or the other's loss by voting for a third candidate....plus, it felt soooo darn good to cast a vote on principle.

Thank you for your post. - Reasonable

I'm always facinated at some people who think all social problems and situations are so black and white.Abortion is here to stay, whether it's legal or not, just like it's always been an option when a woman finds herself facing the impossible situation of an unwanted pregnancy. Cat Question Aug 05, 2011
Don't know if you remember my last posts awhile back about a stray cat we started feeding and took care, gave her shelter for the winter and she had kittens.  We've taken the kittens in and adore them all.  Now...here she is 3 or 4 months later, every once in awhile I'll get a glimpse of her nursing them.  Vet told us milk has to be dried up before they can fix her.  However, she is a stray and she has been going out walking around the neighborhood like she has ...

QuestionMar 22, 2010
Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here.  While watching news today this just crossed my mind.  If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills).  As ICs I'm sure ...

Just curious about a couple of opinions.  First of all, I like to tan.  I know the health risks, etc., but I enjoy the way the sun makes me feel and I enjoy my skin with a tan.  We just recently moved to "town" into a neighborhood.  I live in a small area.  I have a fenced in backyard and the neighbor is pretty close and their yard is also fenced in with a separate fence, not even joining mine. Hi everyone, I absolutely love Swarovski Crystal, in particular their earrings. I have a couple of pairs that I paid full price for, but they are too expensive. (Earrings run from $60-$300+.) I saw that E-Bay has a really nice selection, and you can just do a Buy Now for way under market price--I'm not into the bidding thing, BTW. Thing is, how do I REALLY know it's Swarovski?
