Good news and bad news

The CEO of Aetna Insurance has decided, after conducting a review, to raise the pay of some 5,700 of their employees to $16.00 per hour. The CEO said that many of these employees were making $13 or $14 per hour and were unable to purchase the companies health insurance for themselves or their children forcing them onto public assistance. Half a million low-wage workers will get a raise in April, when Walmart lifts hourly wages at its stores in the United States to at least $9. The raise, announced this week, appears to be an attempt to stem employee turnover and to respond to pressure for higher wages from politicians, labor groups and employees. Walmart also pledged to raise its wage floor in 2016 to $10 an hour. For low-wage workers, every little bit helps. And raises at Walmart could well lead to raises elsewhere as competitive pressures force Target, Home Depot and other low-wage retailers to follow suit. Other employers giving raises recently: Apple, Ford, American Airlines. The market needs employees. Employers are just starting to realize they need to compete. Unfortunately, I think it is the goal of the some of the MTSOs to pay so little that they will say that "they are unable to hire American MTs and have a "reason" to offshore, although we all know that they are just unwilling to pay a fair wage while padding the CEOs millions. Always let your local health care providers know that they have a choice to have their patient's transcription done by American workers. ;

Mike Huckabee I told you recently about a poll that found that Congress’ approval rating was lower than that of cockroaches. Well, maybe this will help Congress pull slightly ahead of the bugs. As part of their deal to avoid the fiscal cliff, Congress agreed to freeze their own salaries. But the latest Republican bill to suspend the debt ceiling until May 18th went even further. It would put lawmakers’ paychecks on hold starting on April 15th – tax day. Their pay would g ...

  Right wingnuts going the way of the dinosaur perhaps?  It's high time . . .
