TrueMajority

We knew that Arizona's new radical immigration law would stir up hate speech and racist voices nationwide.1 But we didn't know it would hit so close to home.

Just before our friends at Washington CAN arrived to plan an immigrant rights march, racist vandals slashed their tires, spray-painted "heil Hitler" symbols and hurled a steel ball through the window.2

We're tired of this violence. We're tired of members of Congress having to close down their offices due to death threats and smashed windows. We're tired of the hate speech and threats.

So we're sending a giant banner made up of the names of all TrueMajority members who stand together against this racist violence. WashCAN staff and volunteers will carry the banner this Saturday as a sign of solidarity against hate.

Will you stand with us against this violence?â€Â¨ Click here to add your name to the right side of history.

http://act.truemajorityaction.org/p/7002/azracism?campaign_KEY=1680

We'd like to believe this is an isolated incident. But it's not. Hate speech and violence have been on the rise in America the last few months. Whether it's spitting on John Lewis, a congressman and civil rights icon, or attacking the offices of our friends and allies in Seattle -- the source is the same. â€Â¨Ã¢€Â¨

Now Arizona's "show your papers" law is emboldening white supremacists and racists across the country. It has to stop. What will be next? Armed militiamen patrolling not just the Mexican border but the streets of our neighborhoods too?â€Â¨Ã¢€Â¨

If we don't take a stand and back up our friends on the front lines, it's not hard to imagine how this will get out of hand.

Sign now to support our Seattle office's march for immigrant rights and the fight to stop the racism before it spreads further. If you've got a Facebook account, after you sign on to show support click the "Like" button and we'll proudly add your profile picture to the banner too.

from the Latinos who were throwing water bottles during their protest of the AZ bill and making threats. You want to stand up for Latinos when they are being violent? Do you not realize the amount of crime in AZ due to illegals? This bill was not signed to attack Latinos. It was to try and keep the American citizens, including Latino citizens, of AZ safer. We have drug cartels kidnapping people. We have policemen being killed. We have innocent American citizens being shot by illegals. This isn't an anti-Hispanic bill. Your ignorance of this just astounds me. This bill not only mirrors the federal law on immigration, but it was put in place to try and keep AZ safe. If you can't get that, well....I guess you'd rather continue the violence and killing going on by illegals who cross our border just so you don't upset Latinos and to heck with everyone else and their safety.

racist much? - sssdt

[ In Reply To ..]
None of the news articles I saw identified all the people arrested as Latino. Even if they were, branding all Latinos as "violent" because of the actions of MAYBE 5 Latinos who threw water bottles is racist, and ridiculous to boot.

Besides, you think we don't know your post is a basic word-for-word reiteration of what was on Freeperville last Monday? You Freepers exaggerate and make up waves of cop killings and civilians being shot to justify your racism. When you can't find news articles or links to prove what you say, you claim it's because the "liberal media" is hiding the evidence.

And then you come here and say everyone else is "ignorant". Unbelievable.

First of all...I don't even know what the heck - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
"Freeperville" is. Secondly, I didn't say all Latinos. I said the Latinos that threw water bottles. So stop putting words in my mouth. Furthermore, you can't be racist when you are talking facts. Policemen are being killed. Drugs are being smuggled in. If you are willing to ignore that and call me racist for pointing it out...you are ignorant.

Also, thank you for pointing out a good point though. You said that you can't judge all Latinos by a few who do stupid things....I'm sure you would agree the same thing goes for the tea party too, huh? Or are you one of those people who say that tea party people are all racist and violent?

I'd take water balloons and bottles anyday over...sm - nosa

bullets. You call water bottles violence? Are you serious?

Not surprisingly, I think they are. Next thing - you know they will be

Oh ha ha..your comment is absolutely ridiculous - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Water bottles can hurt...I guess you have never had one flung at your head. Also, I guess the bullets the illegal drug cartel uses to kidnap people and/or kill policemen are harmless too. Do you people even live near the border? If you don't live near the border, how could you possibly know how it is to live there? The majority of people in AZ are for this bill. Obviously they have a reason for it...but let me guess....you think all AZ citizens who are for this are just racist people who hate mexicans, right?
No, I think water bottles can hurt but bullets - can kill. I think that that
[ In Reply To ..]
conservatives, particularly the ones on this board, LOVE to say things like "the majority of" to support what they are saying with ZERO facts to back it except maybe perhaps a Faux news poll. I am not accusing all AZ citizens of being racist people who hate Mexicans, but then you know that (nothing like a overdefensive reaction to attempt to stir things up, eh?) And I think that while not all conservatives or Republicans are racists, I think that most racists are conservatives and Republicans. I actually used to live in Arizona, btw, so no, I think this is some crazy mayor and some racist cop using their power the wrong way. They should be using the system in place and ACTUALLY ENFORCE IT, and put some responsibility on the employers. If illegals knew they would not likely be able to find a job in Arizona because employers were actually following the law, they would certainly not be running to Arizona. Besides, think of the money you would save in enforcing a law already on the books instead of starting a new one-that is supposed to be important to you-right???

Lean off that wing-nut panic button and be reasonable for a change.
Why are you so opposed to - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
a bill by AZ that would just enforce a federal law? That makes no sense to me. People like you continually give Latinos a pass for their violence but are always willing to point out a few nut jobs on the right who do stupid things. I just don't get it. I don't know how many posts I've seen on this board where the OP said the tea party people were nothing but violent racists. Yes, bullets can kill...just like the bullets illegals have in their guns in the drug cartel used to kidnap, rob, and kill people with. Don't forget that...although you always skirt around that fact...and YES...it is a fact. So stop drinking the kool-aid and actually listen to the calls of AZ citizens saying something needs to be done.
I think anyone who breaks the laws you mention - should be arrested
[ In Reply To ..]
that is not my issue. I have a major issue with police being able to approach anyone on the basis of what they perceive to be a "possible illegal" and demand papers. That is ridiculous and just smacks way too much of Nazi Germany-the Nazis forcing the Jews to carry papers at all times, etc. THAT is racist. And, as I stated, if Arizona would enforce the laws that make employers do their job, I suspect a lot of this would not be going on. So far as the drugs, etc, as I said before, arrest and prosecute based on legitimate evidence-not ONLY because they look as though they may be Latinos. Surely you understand that?
First of all...My name is not Shirley..LOL - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry...couldn't resist.

Obviously you have been listening to the liberal-sided argument and only that side. This bill does not give policemen the right to stop any one for any reason just to check papers. If a Latino man is walking down the street with his kids, he cannot be stopped just because he is Latino looking.

The people they are allowed to request papers from are people who are pulled over for a traffic violation. If a police officer attempts to pull over someone for a traffic violation and that person slams on the accelerator and drives off...that is a pretty good indication that that person is up to no good. Therefore, when caught up to, that person will be required to show proof of citizenship as well as any illegal they may be trying to smuggle into the country.

The fact that you guys keep saying any person can be pulled off the street and requested to show papers just because they appear to be from Mexico...is just not accurate. So please...please stop spreading these lies that the liberal base keeps spreading.

When I am pulled over for speeding, I am required to show my driver's license. Why is it any different to show proof of citizenship when pulled over for a traffic violation?

Police officers in AZ are not going to be driving around the state just looking for Latino looking people in order to question their citizenship. If you aren't doing anything suspicious that would catch an officer's attention, you will not be stopped or questioned. They are not going to be going door to door asking to see papers.
And don't call me Shirley! ROTHLMAO! - Really cute, but joking aside
[ In Reply To ..]
if what you say is true, then that is fine. My understanding though it that that is basically the way it has been all along, and that with this law all the policeman has to do is "reasonable suspicion" (I think that is the phrase) or something like that that is not at all well defined and left it completely open to interpretation by the policeman what "reasonable suspicion" was, be it mugging someone with a knife, driving too fast, or just having darker skin. That is where I have a problem with it.

Lord, that movie is old, and now I am reminded of how old I am-AArrgh!

I don't think people should be stopped just because they look really tan either. I'm sure there will be at least 1 boneheaded moron on the police force that will do something this stupid....just like those police that pull over black people just for driving a nice vehicle. So I can't guarantee that there won't be 1 idiot who abuses this new law. However, this bill was not intended to go door to door and round up all Latinos and that is the common misconception that the left side keeps whining about. If a police officer abuses his authority and is actually harrassing Latinos, that officer should be punished.

But surely (LOL) you can't deny that something needs to be done about the number of illegals coming into our country.
I agree that something needs to be done but - I hope your gov changes

the reading of the law to make it more clear and so that things like this are kept to a minimum.

I don't know-what are the hoops one jumps through to gain citizenship in the US? I know it is really expensive. Maybe find ways to make it easier to obtain. You know that this is likely a step of red tape or two that could probably be removed, thus expediting and/or making the process less costly. I would also like to see more pressure being put on employers who are hiring them, make them pay some fines! What do you think?
