Federal court strikes down Texas voter ID law

Posted: Aug 30, 2012

It was the state's second major loss in court in three days, coming after a separate federal panel ruled Tuesday that Texas' Republican-dominated Legislature failed to avoid "discriminatory purposes" when drawing new maps for congressional districts and both houses of the state Legislature to reflect the Texas' booming population.

A report by the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan legal think tank in New York, determined that new voting restrictions could suppress the votes of more than 5 million young, minority, low-income and disabled voters nationwide. And election administrators and academics who monitor the issue say generally that in-person fraud is rare because someone would have to impersonate a registered voter and risk arrest.

illegals to be able to vote. The simple showing of a voter ID, and some people waaaawaaaa, just can't do it. Why the H#LL not? Don't give me all the "they can't afford to go get one" crap, or they don't have a ride. That's BS and Texans aren't buying it. They can manage a trip to the welfare office to pick up free stuff, let them pick up a voter ID while they're out.

Why do you assume - RC

People who don't have voter ID are on welfare?

I said illegals. Then the liberals say it's the poor people.(sm) - Voila!

who can't go get one. In your world, does 2 plus 2 equal 6? It's not brain surgery.
Wow. - RC

I'm just going to walk away from this one, it's too ugly.

You know, if liberals really were for eliminating voter fraud - and not suppressing votes...sm

Instead of whining about this which makes it so blatantly obvious they want illegals and cartoon characters to vote for them, they would be out helping legal citizens get a picture ID. After all they've got all blooming year to get an ID and even if you were to count from today they've got 3 months to get an ID. Jeepers creepers man, can they make it any more obvious why they don't want to eliminate voter fraud. Wi

I wonder if you have numbers on how much - voter fraud has SM

happened in the past. When I read posts such as this one, I am really curious where the information comes from. From what I can glean after researching this, the number is almost nil.

Regarding others (not just democrats) assisting people in getting these IDs, it is happening as we speak. Also, as you should know, the restrictions that they tried to place on voter registration groups have been struck down by the court. As far as I am concerned, this voter fraud issue that some seem to think is so prevalent is a made up issue, it just does not happen. It is simply a ploy to try to prevent people from voting who would probably vote for Obama. The true facts about voter fraud lead me to this belief.
That's what I don't understand... - SK1

Why is it assumed that it's a ploy to try to prevent people from voting who would probably vote for Obama?

When I walk into my polling place, I don't have to show any ID and I could say I was anyone. I could go to 5 different polling places and vote 5 times. Don't you want to know that you're the only person voting under your name? I see it as voter security.
Sometimes they slip up and actually admit it - see link

your name is only on the list at your polling place. When you sign in and give your name it is checked off the list.

But they don't ask me for ID.

I could go to five other polling places with the names of five friends I know don't vote but are registered, and vote in their name. You only have to have their address to find their voting precinct.
Voting at multiple polls - RC

How would that be possible? Here, we have designated polling stations, and only that station has our name on the list. If I were to go to the wrong polling station, I wouldn't be allowed to vote there.

are only the ones that have been caught and convicted. Be prepared -- this is an extra long post:

I did a little searching and remember the 2008 Coleman-Franken election?????? So far, 177 people have been convicted -- not just accused, but convicted -- of voting fraudulently in the Senate race. Another 66 are awaiting trial. That's a total of 243 people either convicted of voter fraud or awaiting trial in an election that was decided by 312 votes in one state.

I did another check and found since 2008, 42 people were arrested in various states for voter fraud, but the amount of voter fraud they committed was 534 signatures that were certified to place Obama’s name in contention, were never challenged. 704 signatures were certified for Clinton, according to state elections officials. 115 cases in various states.

I know it's a HUGE issue for some, but I've never really understood why it's considered discriminatory or disenfranchising to implement voter ID. Party volunteers assist people in registering to vote ALL THE TIME, why couldn't the same to be for obtaining identification?

It's a victory for our proud principle of "one man, - one vote." The US belongs to ALL citizens. nm

Appeals Court Strikes Down Obama Recess AppointmentsJan 25, 2013
Really? You mean the courts are finally going to start doing their job? A federal appeals court said Friday that President Obama overstepped his authority with a series of recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board. The case may wind up in the Supreme Court and determine how far the president can go in appointing people whose nominations would be filibustered in the Senate. The result could affect the standing of other Obama appointees, such as the head of the president's ...

German Federal Supreme Court: Measles Is NOT A VirusJan 26, 2017
This is the strangest vaccine story I have ever come across.  Several scientists proved successfully in Germany that measles is NOT caused by a virus.  The case was heard before the German Federal Supreme Court (equivalent of our U.S. SupremeCourt).  The plaintiff was a biologist, and he was awarded monetary damages. Reseachers in the past decades committed a critical mistake:  They used no controls.  As a result, components of regular cells were misidentified as vira ...
