Romney will most likely have to replace at least one Supreme Court judge, and Roe v Wade will be overturned. Abortion will become a crime, 14th amendment rights given to an embryo, no exceptions for rape, incest, or health of mother. None. Many women voters are not old enough to remember what it used to be like before Roe. I wish they would take to heart what has been said by repubs.

Those who haven't read about the authoritarian personality that is driving most of the GOP platform these days, a link to Robert Altmeyer's very readable--and enjoyable--monograph is below.

Authoritarian refers to a personality type that submits itself to a leader (authority) and becomes very aggressive on its behalf. About 20+% of...us are very strongly authoritarian, 1 in 5. Plus, a full half or more of us have authoritarian traits to various degrees that can become dominant in the wrong situations, such as bad times when we're afraid of the future.

But a very pertinent characteristic to the abortion discussion is that as a group they are VERY punitive, and they are dominating the Republican Party right now.

She is many years older than me (I was only 8 at the time). She became pregnant had her baby and kept him. This post is not about abortion. That is a personal issue. She was a minimum wage secretary. Her boss, a man, would receive bonuses for the work that she would do that he would sign off on. She had great difficulties making her rent, grocery and health care payments. She was living on credit and even charging her groceries. Everyone told her to apply for the County Assistance (equivalent to food stamps and welfare). She finally went and applied. I remember when she came home and cried and said she would never go back. They said the only way she could receive any assistance was if she named the child's father. When I said my sister was date raped, I guess I should have clarified that my sister met this guy at a dance, was "date" raped, and the guy disappeared the next day. When I say she was raped, I mean I saw the bruises on her neck. Anyway, my sister was so humiliated at the "welfare" office, that she never went back for help and has struggled the rest of her life. She never trusted another man, never married, worked at her low wage job, and relied on the kindness of "strangers" to raise her son.

What is my point? I do not want to go back to the days when women had no choices, no fair pay, and having to prove they were raped in order to get some help. (see what is happening in Pennsylvania these days if you don't believe me.)

my life. I might even vote for them again -- if any reasonable, fair people are voted in office. I have no idea WHAT Romney's political affiliation is, but he doesn't represent the Republicans of the past, of which there were many GOOD people voted into office.

Besides the very real points you wrote, best I can tell of Romney's budget (for this week, anyway) is to give an across-the-board (yep, including the very rich)tax cut of 20% but he doesn't reveal how he plans on paying for it. He wants to give the Department of Defense what they asked for PLUS 2 TRILLION dollars that they didn't even ask for, and again, doesn't reveal how he plans on paying for it.

This is just like George Bush getting us involved in 2 wars but never explaining how he would pay for it; hence, the terrible deficit that Bush left for Obama to clean up.

Do you Romney fans WANT the deficit to increase because I've just presented two instances of how that will happen.

I realize he will penalize the poor, elderly and disabled, but that's STILL not enough for all the dollars he wants to spend.

Bush Redux. I guess some people never learn from past errors. I learned, and I'm willing to give Obama four more years to clean up what it took Bush 8 years to "accomplish."

None of what I've written even BEGINS to touch their contemptuous feelings towards women and the poor.

As Election Day grows closer, they're now also using race against Obama, showing what hateful racists they really are. At least, Palin and Sununu (sp?, not born in America) are using it. It's all over the news.

I registered as a Republican at 18, never wanted to be anything but. Had voted mostly Republican for over 30 years - until "read my lips". I cannot see how anyone could believe that Governor Romney is the answer to help us get out of the abyss created by 8 years of Former President Bush. How can we expect President Obama to get us out of the largest recession in decades in less time than it took President Bush to dig it for us? My opinion is that Governor Romney will only bring us more of the same Republican heartache. On the other hand, I do not believe that President Obama is strong enough to fight the Republican Congress to make the changes necessary to push us forward, but I think he is the lesser of 2 evils and should win. The best we can say at this point is that, whatever happens, we will get another crack at it in 4 years (I hope).

If people don't vote for Obama it's not because they "hate" him. It's because they disagree with the issues. They disagree with what he has done in office. His policies. The issues. Fears versus fearmongering - Fanatical Hypocrite

First I'd like to say that locking any one demographic, especially one so large as 50% of the population, into one party or the other or saying that all women should vote for Obama is stereotyping.

However, I don't consider this fear-mongering. While both administrations are pandering to women (along with other groups) and often go way too far in their attempts to get more female votes, especially the Dems who are coming across as desperate at this point, I don't think that these fears are unfounded.

Numerous Republican politicians, religious leaders and talking heads have been embroiled in scandals involving their attitudes towards women's issues. Ranging from invasive ultrasounds, contraceptive coverage, equal pay for equal work, abortion and whether or not rape can be divided up into hierarchical categories of wrongness. These issues aren't made up or imaginary problems. Real politicians are bringing these things up.

As for Romney himself, he supports keeping and tearing down Roe v. Wade and worked so hard to fill his administration with binders full of women that by the time he left there were less women than when he got there. While no one can be certain what Romney believes, if we take his religious beliefs as the core of his morality, then a woman's sole purpose is to produce and raise offspring. You can make the argument that maybe his religion isn't important to him, but I don't believe it.

I think women have the right to express very real fears that the Republican Party doesn't have their best interests at heart. If Romney gets in charge, will womankind go extinct? Probably not. Does that mean people can't worry about his intentions?

So, in essence, I understand your frustration at getting lumped into a political interest group (I've had that happen to me before and it isn't very considerate) and that not voting for Obama doesn't preclude the possibility of still liking him, just disagreeing with his policies, but I don't think people's concerns about women's rights are unfounded.
