"Respect is earned, Honesty is appreciated, Trust is gained, Loyalty is returned". (I like that).

I think what a lot of people fail to understand is the respect is for the seat, not a person. You don't just waltz right in, demand respect, but don't do anything to deserve it, or even worse, you don't respect the people (in this case the people of the country).

To sit in the chair (of the office of the president), one must respect the chair. If you don't respect the chair everyone will know and you will not have earned the respect you demand. If you are an ineffective leader people will know that also. As a former military person I understand the importance of respecting the office, but we all know that an office (any office anywhere) can be infiltrated by people who don't have the best interest of the country or its people at heart.

That is exactly why the founding fathers wrote the Declaration. They knew it was possible for enemies to infiltrate our country. They wrote this into the Declaration...(special attention is needed to the first part and the last part)

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Additionally, upon entering the service everyone raises their hand and swears their allegiance to defend the Constitution. We honor the "office" of the presidency. "I, [name], do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;" (note the key words "foreign AND domestic".

There were many great men throughout history who sat in the chair and gave honor to the office of the presidency never "demanding" respect. And there were (and are) a great number of men did not give honor, but shame, to the office.

They are okay with calling republicans all sorts of names (including insulting names for Bohner or Chaney), but the minute someone has a different name for Obama or a democrat they'll be the first to scream and shout. Who knows, maybe they even report them, I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised. I guess here conservatives are supposed to listen to all the republican politicians being called names and not say anything and have a thick skin, but the minute someone has a name for a democrat politician, oh no, can't have that. Must have those posts censored, just not theirs.

I was on MT Stars during the Bush presidency and it was bad. At that time the moderator told us that politicians are fair game for whatever we want to discuss about them. This is how posters can release their frustrations. I heard republicans called every name you can think of (still do every once in awhile).

I don't name call politicans (except I'll call pelosi pelousy), but it does not bother me what people call a poliician. They are in the spotlight, they can handle it. I loved that post about mean tweets and some tweeted some woman politician and told her she sucked a pigs *bleep*. LOL. It's just a way for people to express their frustrations. I'm old enough now to let things run off my back, but I do think that if we had to listen to 8 years of the name calling of Bush and other republican politicians then they better be able to take it back.

Certainly that lends itself to discussion on any topic related to the Nov elections, which IMO is acceptable and appropriate in this thread. And if we're not there quite yet, maybe you should refer that comment to the person who mentioned November.

IMO more people will be concerned about earning a living wage rather than going backward and considering a rocky start to a monumental program as anything that might affect their future in relation to election of congressmen.
