WND should be ashamed of itself for whipping up nonscientific furor and preying upon the ill-informed. This is a vector-borne illness. You can't catch it from other people. Can Not. Just like Lyme disease, eastern equine encephalitis, West Nile, mad cow, or any other number of vector-borne illnesses we live with on a daily basis in the United States.

The article is addressing locally acquired human transmission as opposed to transmission from South American bugs. Nothing in the article addresses transmission from one human to another.

Like the article said: "triatomine bugs are found across the lower half of the United States." Just like deer ticks are found in the northeast.

The article has nothing to do with humans catching the illness from other humans - in spite of the fact that they used the word "human" in a sentence.

Did anyone consider that these illegals bring across the border all types of bugs. Remember the killer bees, etc.

Takes just a few to start colonizing here and the south since it is warmer would be the best breeding grounds.

I have always worried about what comes across our border since no one will stop these illegals. So does this sound like we are being cruel not letting them come here. Ellis Island was the first place legal refugees and immigrants came to and if they were cleared they came into America.

I wonder how many illnesses could have been stopped had we had border closures.

I had really believed after 911 happened that both borders would be closed. Got a huge surprise. No one seems to care. Too much political correctness. Help them wipe out the disease in their countries not help them bring it to ours.

Is this what we want, to have to be so worried about what is being brought across the border.

The scariest thing I think is the new strain of TB which has no cure and most times if these illegals are found to have TB, they are reluctant to take the medications and hide thus infecting others.

I think we really dodged a bullet with Ebola. I am not happy how irresponsible even healthcare workers, i.e. doctors and nurses were with our health when the decided to snub their noses at quarantine.

I think that quarantine is the only way to fight diseases coming into our country. There was a huge flu in the early 1900s and it spread like wildfire.

I hope some day we won't all have to be sorry that we permitted people to come across our borders who are infected with something.

Kissing bugs are found in the lower southern states. Do you know how many illnesses can be contracted from mosquitoes? You can't catch Chagas from other humans. That's not the way it is transmitted.

The "superbugs" didn't ride in on anyone except for over-antibiotic-medicated people in this country, in addition to the levels of antibiotics we're all subjected to if we eat industrially raised meats that are chockful of antibiotics.
