America is great because

Posted: Aug 3, 2016

If you watch this video of a Muslim-American (comedian) saying goodbye to America at the RNC (because of Trump's purported measures to ban Muslims and make a Muslim registry) you will see that the people he meets there are so nice and loving. I am just amazed that they go for Trump, who is certainly not a good person at all.

I just think this video represents the repeated claim that there are not as many differences in people as there are similarities, that Americans on the whole ARE good to each other, that sometimes hateful policies are just brushed aside but who knows what will happen if Trump gets in.

This shows the Republican delegates in such a great light, people who just do not seem to bear any resemblance to that mob chanting, "Lock her up, lock her up."

In fact, they are the biggest example of Hillary's words, that America is great because America is good.

;

Alex de Tocqueville said America is great because America is good - AND then when on to say what makes it

[ In Reply To ..]
great is Christianity.

"Upon my arrival in the United States the religious aspect of the country was the first thing that struck my attention; and the longer I stayed there, the more I perceived the great political consequences resulting from this new state of things, to which I was unaccustomed.

In France I had almost always seen the spirit of religion and the spirit of freedom marching in opposite directions. But in America I found they were intimately united and that they reigned in common over the same country..."

De Tocqueville continued:

"They brought with them...a form of Christianity, which I cannot better describe, than by styling it a democratic and republican religion...

Moreover, all the sects of the United States are comprised within the great unity of Christianity, and Christian morality is everywhere the same."

In the United States the sovereign authority is religious... There is no country in the whole world where the Christian religion retains a greater influence than in America...

America is still the place where the Christian religion has kept the greatest real power over men's souls; and nothing better demonstrates how useful and natural it is to man, since the country where it now has the widest sway is both the most enlightened and the freest."

De Tocqueville continued:

"In the United States the influence of religion is not confined to the manners, but it extends to the intelligence of the people...

Christianity, therefore reigns without obstacle, by universal consent..."

Yeah, if you watch the video I imagine many of - those nice delegates are Christians

[ In Reply To ..]
But that's not the point. They are good people. You don't have to be Christian to be good, you just have to be good.

My point is they accepted that Muslim reporter and showed him lots of love, THAT is what's good about the American people.

I don't care what you say about Trump, that man is no Christian, certainly not in deeds.

You have to have some kind of humility to believe there is someone greater than yourself. He does not have that and would never accept a higher force, no matter what he says. He is also a liar who lies constantly to say whatever he thinks people will believe.

Pretty easy to see he doesn't even believe in the Golden Rule of do unto others as you would have them do until you.

and my point is Hillary misrepresented de Tocqueville's - meaning. She only used what she

[ In Reply To ..]
what she liked to make HER point, not de Tocqueville's.
And yet the statement is true - America is great because America is good
[ In Reply To ..]
And also why should she make de Tocqueville's point when she was making her acceptance speech? Many politicians have used this in speeches, including Eisenhower. It is so general as to be more of a sentiment than a quote.

De Tocqueville also said:

"America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great..."

and

"The greatest danger to liberty in America lies in the omnipotence of the majority. If ever liberty is lost in America, it will be due to an oppression of minorities."

Which has nothing to do with Christianity. It has everything to do with the embrace of horrible personal characteristics embodied by Trump and how he wishes to deal with minorities.

Trump is NOT GOOD. Those delegates in the video ARE GOOD.

He continued: The Americans combine the notions of - Christianity and of liberty so intimately

[ In Reply To ..]
in their minds, that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other; and with them this conviction does not spring from that barren traditionary faith which seems to vegetate in the soul rather than to live."

In Book Two of Democracy in America, de Tocqueville wrote:

"Christianity has therefore retained a strong hold on the public mind in America...

Religion in America is not only a moral institution but also a political institution... In the United States, the law is never atheistic...

All of the American constitutions proclaim freedom of conscience and the liberty and equality of all the confessions..."

He also warned that a welfare state could seduce people - into servitude. He saw why socialism

[ In Reply To ..]
leads to slavery. He loves American individualism. It's in Democracy in America.

There has been a concerted effort to replace “inalienable rights” with rights granted by Man.

It’s a question of Faith.

Faith in man or Faith in Government.

Undermining faith in man has been extremely effective by creating uncertainly through relativism, multiculturalism and political correctness.

Teaching generations of our youth that you can’t “judge” and right and wrong are a matter of perspective, has left them without the structure of authority. A parent if you will.

Therefore the desire for structure has left them with a choice between the two evils of government control.

Their choice is between a euro-centric socialism (all caring providers) and what has been effectively miss categorized as Fascism. And we all know Fascism is evil.

The left no longer believes that individuals can manage their own affairs. This is not to suggest that they think “they” need help, it suggests the acceptance of the “narcissist within” and the elitism that follows.

I think we’ve slipped too far as a nation and de Tocqueville’s powerful logic and reason will not convince most Americans that we’re headed down the path of self-destruction. Ironically only an economic calamity will save us now. The country needs a reality check.

Seriously, today's citizenry is nothing like it used to be.

Hillary can't even tell the truth about a dead - Frenchman.

“What good does it do me, after all, if an ever-watchful authority keeps an eye out to ensure that my pleasures will be tranquil and races ahead of me to ward off all danger, sparing me the need even to think about such things, if that authority, even as it removes the smallest thorns from my path, is also absolute master of my liberty and my life; if it monopolizes vitality and existence to such a degree that when it languishes, everything around it must also languish; when it sleeps, everything must also sleep; and when it dies, everything must also perish?

There are some nations in Europe whose inhabitants think of themselves in a sense as colonists, indifferent to the fate of the place they live in. The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved. They are so divorced from their own interests that even when their own security and that of their children is finally compromised, they do not seek to avert the danger themselves but cross their arms and wait for the nation as a whole to come to their aid. Yet as utterly as they sacrifice their own free will, they are no fonder of obedience than anyone else. They submit, it is true, to the whims of a clerk, but no sooner is force removed than they are glad to defy the law as a defeated enemy. Thus one finds them ever wavering between servitude and license.

When a nation has reached this point, it must either change its laws and mores or perish, for the well of public virtue has run dry: in such a place one no longer finds citizens but only subjects.”

“I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers – and it was not there . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests and it was not there . . . in her rich mines and her vast world commerce – and it was not there . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution – and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.”

“As I see it, only God can be all-powerful without danger, because his wisdom and justice are always equal to his power. Thus there is no authority on earth so inherently worthy of respect, or invested with a right so sacred, that I would want to let it act without oversight or rule without impediment (p. 290).”
