Or not works - California is quickly - going bankrupt.

[ In Reply To ..]
Even with the government (meaning US taxpayers) picking up the tab, they're still going to need a lot of money to fill the void once that money gets cut down. Where are they going to find it with so far three major cities declaring bankruptcy and more on the way there?

The GOP's campaign for strict voter ID laws is affecting another voting bloc. —By Dana Liebelson | Tue Oct. 29, 2013 3:00 AM PDT 3   Kheel Center/Flickr Women have been allowed to vote in the United States since 1920, after the passage of the 19th Amendment. But fast-forward to 2013, and plenty of states' laws have a provision that makes it harder for women who are married or divorced to cast a ballot. When Americans all over the country ...

California Prop 187 In 1994 LOST California For The GOPNov 07, 2012
red for Reagan and H.W. Bush, but NO more. California's gone very blue in Presidential elections ever since. For those who don't remember, 187 was an attempt by conservatives to deny schooling and healthcare to illegal immigrant children. It outraged MANY of all backgrounds, but it especially activated the Hispanics it was aimed at; and although it was later voided as unconstitutional, the damage it did to the GOP lives on. If no 187, we might well have woke up to a President-Elect ...

Monday, February 22, 2010 A Tale of Two Babies by Sarah Palin. (Keep checking back throughout the day for updates.)“It was the best of times; it was the worst of times…”For Sarah Palin back in March of 2008, this was especially true. She was right in the middle of trying to convince the people of Alaska that, despite all appearances, she was indeed pregnant with her fifth child, after surprising even her own staff with the news on March 6th. But Go Ahead And Worry About A Birth Certificate Fairy TaleMay 30, 2012
In other words, congressional Republicans are taking the government’s creditworthiness hostage when they threaten not to increase the debt ceiling. Politically advantageous as this may be, it is terrible economics. To understand why, let us consider the economic effects of last year’s debt-ceiling debate. If we know our history, perhaps we will not be doomed to repeat it. ...

Paul Ryan's Fairy-Tale Budget Plan..smAug 15, 2012
How can you call this guy fiscally conservative when he voted FOR the auto bailout, two wars and the Bush tax cuts...none of which were paid for?  Exactly what part of that is conservative?  David Stockman (former budget director under Reagan) -- "Mr. Ryan’s plan is devoid of credible math or hard policy choices.” ...

A truly sad statement on our society today . . . this man was a homeless immigrant, no less.   Since we know how many people (especially those that comment regularly on here) have a huge resentment toward the homeless and immigrants, guess a lot of the very people on this forum would have walked on by . . . so much for compassion http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/24/hugo-alfredo-tale-yax-doz_n_550854.html ...

The Fake News Of "The Handmaiden's Tale"May 12, 2017
now that Donald Trump is president, and the more unglued it sounds about an approaching American totalitarian state, the better, hence the liberal cheerleading for "The Handmaid's Tale," a TV series made for the streaming service Hulu. It's based on a loopy 1985 novel by the radical feminist Canadian author Margaret Atwood, which imagines the United States quickly falling under a theocratic dictatorship based on its Puritan roots. America becomes a patriarchy called the Republic of ...

MT In CaliforniaNov 05, 2016
When Nuance laid off all California MTs, I began to wonder what was happening but that was employees.  TTS wrote me and said they will not hire any from California. I have applied to numerous jobs and hardly a word.  I have passed tests at 96% and still, have not been hired.  I purposefully applied somewhere and left off my address.  I saw there were 400 hits so I figured I would not hear from them.  Today I got an email asking, "Where are you located?"  Am I correc ...

California Principal May 08, 2010
How awful this whole thing is.  It is apparent that the school officials just wanted to avoid any unrest, but they ended up setting the stage anyway.  I don't think they could have avoided it no matter what they did, but it seems it would have been much better if they had announced that there would probably be those who choose to wear the American flag.  The students should have been counseled on how to handle situations such as these as a group, and made fully aware of the c ...

If I Lived In CaliforniaAug 20, 2012
What a crazy political climate in that state. I feel for ya'. Banks were mandated to make these risky loans, then were asked to absorb the financial loss. California decided to use taxpayer money to pay those mortgages. Unbelievable. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/20/us-taxpayers-bailout-california-homeowners-as-banks-fail-to-pay-their-share/ ...

About Obamacare, I Just Found Out In California, SMOct 14, 2013
that many of the exchange plans will not have the same doctors as the non-exchange plans. Blue Shield will only offer 50% of the doctors and only 40% of the hospitals as the same non-exchange plans. I guess you have to sign up for it before you know what's in it. Pun intended. The silver lining to all of this is that market forces are about to be re-introduced into the health CARE industry. I've read about doctors opening cash only clinics, and like Medicare will pass on Obamaca ...

Anyone On Covered California (Obamacare)?Mar 05, 2015
I am thinking of letting go of my terrible work insurance where the premiums are nearly $200 per month. I can quailfy for subsidies from Obamacare because my income is so disgustingly low. I'm wondering if anyone has trouble with getting prescriptions covered? Do you have to pay full price for them and are those costs rolled into the deductible? Did you have to change doctors? I believe I would have to do that if I select the bronze plan. I figured out the cost of my current premiums and ...

Glad I Don't Live In California!May 18, 2017
If you live in California, have a job and pay taxes Governor Jerry Brown would like you to know that you’re  a freeloader and he’s tired of your complaining. In a speech in Orange County last week Brown responded to criticism over a new $52 billion tax hike that was hastily rammed through Sacramento by the Democrat supermajority over the objections of taxpayers across the state. Democrat Senator Josh Newman narrowly defeated Republican Ling Ling Chang in Novembe ...

The president says the requirements are too onerous on the car companies and will kill jobs. California leaders argue that consumers worldwide are demanding th ...

California Illegal Immigrant TuitionNov 16, 2010
I should not be surprised.  Leave it to the idiots in California.   The California Supreme Court has reversed a lower court holding and sided with California Regents and illegal aliens on the issue of in-state tuition breaks. Under the latest ruling, California colleges (California State University, the University of California, and California Community Colleges) have been given the green light to offer tuition breaks to illegal aliens and deny the same benefit to U.S. citizens from ...

Mystery Launch Off California CoastNov 09, 2010
The link posted is for the video. Part of the story is from another news source.   The unmistakable contrail of a missile streaking into the California sunset was captured on video last night by a KCBS news helicopter flying over Los Angeles at around 5 p.m. Pacific time. The missile firing drew more attention when local news stations were told by Navy and Air Force officials that they did not launch a missile last night. Flying above Los Angeles, the crew aboard the helicopter estimate ...

Hello out there...my 22-year-old is home from college this summer and is going to take care of my neighbor's 2 daughters, ages 5 and 6, a couple of days a week probably for around 8 hours a day.  What would be a good rate for her to charge?  It's been so long, I don't even have a clue.  I used to do daycare before my illustrious transcription career so I know people can't pay a normal minimum wage.  Would 5/hr be good?  Any suggestions would be greatl ...

but I miss it and find the more insular, mostly white Christian town I live in now sadly lacking in important ways. My society in L.A. was mostly white, mostly born and raised there, but with plenty of variety, like our Japanese-American neighbors, the black guy in the next office with a passion for French antiques, a Turkish friend whose wistful descripions of the farm she grew up on sound like a little paradise, the accountant who's probably gay, a Yemeni-American manager with a terrific ...

California GOP Congressmen Ignoring Tea PartySep 07, 2013
Excerpt from the NY Times article, link  at bottom. "As the immigration debate simmers in Washington, California Republicans face a very different reality than a majority of their party colleagues, who elsewhere largely represent districts that are overwhelmingly white. More than half of California’s 15 Republican members of Congress have districts that are at least 30 percent Latino, making them potentially vulnerable to Democratic challenges and prime targets for those pushing for ...

Obama Stimulus Funds Went To California Feb 20, 2017
The 2009 stimulus package funded millions of dollars for safety improvements for a dam in California that was in “good shape,” but not to the Oroville Dam that is now on the verge of a spillway crisis. Nearly 200,000 residents north of Sacramento were ordered to evacuate after fears that erosion would cause the emergency spillway to fail, which would lead to “catastrophic flooding“ from a 30-foot wall of water. Despite more than a decade of warnings about Oroville, there is no publ ...
