you can feel them coming and there is nothing you can do about it.

Estroven seemed to help me. - Reprieve for now. sm

My doctor suggested it, or black cohosh (which is in Estroven). Needed the nighttime formula as the night sweats and lack of sleep drove me insane. Found a shawl around the shoulders helped me during the day--easy to put on/take off, and a cold drink nearby. Best of luck getting through this, or at least getting used to it. Mine went away after a few weeks, but pretty sure there will be another round in the near future.

Something that might - help

This is a website/blog that I've utilized when hot flashes were pretty much ruining my life. :)

She recommends blackstrap molasses, which I used and still use, even though I'm past the hot flash stage now.

hot flash - perimenopause

My question is, when are the hot flashes happening? Do they happen during perimenopause or once you haven't had your period for a year? I haven't had my period for 11 months, and I have no other issues besides that. Sometimes I feel a little warmer, but I would not call that a hot flash.

some women don't get hot flashes - sm

You could be one of the lucky few who won't get hot flashes or mood swings. Everyone's body is different. I'd say if you haven't had a period in 11 months, then you're entering menopause. You might sail through it without any complaints. You will start having erratic periods, though, at some point out of the blue. And then bam! Done.

Some women don't get them . . - SM

My doctor told me about women who don't ever get them, and trust me .. . I'm huntin' every one of em down! LOL. I have had them for 13 years straight now, and no sign of letup. With my family history of heart disease HRT is really risky; along with, of course, breast cancer and uterine cancer.
I never had them - but I sure got mean!

Sheesh! I was so cranky I couldn't stand being in my own skin. People hid from me.

I had other symptoms, but not hot flashes. Glad it is over.

I'm getting some topical compounded bioidentical estrogen - cream next week

Just the smallest dose to start out with. If it even slightly minimizes my hot flashes, I'll be thrilled to death. I used to think that women who complained about hot flashes were exaggerating--not anymore.

I cannot take any type of estrogen - sm

because I am at an elevated risk for clotting disorder/stroke.

My PCP prescribed Pristiq. (He also said Effexor works well too.) I had no idea that some antidepressants are prescribed for menopausal hot flashes.

In my case I was having drenching night sweats too.

The Pristiq has worked miracles. I can finally sleep again, and my daytime hot flashes are next to none - and if I do have one it is greatly diminished in severity.

Saw my GYN doctor today - SM

My doctor saw on my chart that I take fish oil. She suggested taking it with breakfast, lunch, and also dinner. She said taking it throughout the day may help with the hot flashes. I am taking her advice, and hoping it helps.

Does anyone know of any natural remedies for hot flashes. I get them so often at night that I hardly get any sleep. I have tried I-Cool and other OTC products but just haven't really gotten any relief. I really don't want to try HRT. Just hoping one of you had found something that works. Need some relief. Thanks! ...

Hot Flashes! Ugh!Apr 30, 2013
I've been dealing with hot flashes for a couple of years now, and just recently discovered that if I run the ceiling fan when I'm sleeping it helps a lot.  Unfortately, my husband doesn't like having it on, so when he comes to bed he shuts it off.  And then the hot flashes start again, waking me up.  I thought he was willing to try running it on the lowest speed, which doesn't help me as much, but I was willing to compromise.  Apparently, he doesn't l ...

Hot FlashesJan 06, 2017
I am in my early 50s and am getting hot flashes about hourly.  I was just wondering if anyone has tried anything that worked for them.  I have looked on the Internet and it sounds as if the naturopathic options aren't really proven to work, but at this point I will do about anything!  TIA ...

Menopause - Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, IrritabilityFeb 05, 2012
My menopausal symtoms are driving me crazy.  I have tried vitamin E, blackcohosh (which gave me headaches) and soy isoflavones with no relief.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I am not seeing my gynecologist until April and I can't deal with this until then!! ...

Darn ItNov 22, 2014
I hadn't had a religious solicitor at my door in almost a year, and it's starting up again. If you are one of those, PLEASE don't show up unannounced. If you must, call me on the phone and I will politely tell you not to come over. I'm sorry, but it's rude. My husband and I were attempting to have a lazy morning for ourselves, and there goes the doorbell. A couple of times in the past, I was just getting out of the shower. I know it's someone trying to sell so ...

That Darn Old Arithmetic Sep 11, 2012
Has He!! frozen over?  (Fox and Friends)  The show's mistake was to compare the official unemployment figure in 2009 with the so-called "real" unemployment figure in 2012. That figure takes into account data which is not included in the official number, such as people who have stopped looking for work. Thus, it is always higher than the official figure. (Official unemployment is actually .3 percentage points higher than in 2009, while "real" unemployment is .7 percentage points l ...

So Darn Full Of Love!Aug 06, 2010
I just have to tell you about my stepfather's pets!  They are just like my own. Our gorgeous little Terrier/Chihuahua mix is the love of my life;  not to mention her "sister" our Double Yellow Amazon parrot.  Yesterday I went to visit, came through the garage and into the kitchen.  My baby usually breaks her little white legs to get to me;  squealing, spinning, nails clicking, crying!   Yesterday . . . nothing! We have a "secret clap" that I give when I ...

Those Darn Facts: Liberal Professor Shocked To Discover...smOct 17, 2013
Tea Party smarter than average. Dan Kahan, the Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School was curious about the relationship between ”science comprehension“ and political outlooks. His findings shocked him: tea party supporters are actually more scientifically literate than the non-tea party population I’ve got to confess, though, I found this result surprising. As I pushed the button to run the analysis on my computer, I fully expected I ...
