Sore pinky finger

Posted: Sep 29, 2010

Anyone else ever have trouble with their pinky finger getting really sore? My pinky finger has been really sore lately. A couple of weeks ago it got all swollen and turned blue.  I didn't injure it at all.  I went to the doctor and she said I had broken a blood vessel and put a splint on it for a few days.  She insisted that I must have injured it and forgot, but I know I didn't (I think I would have bigger problems if that were the case.)  It got better after I was taken out of work for a few days, but now that I am back to typing regularly it is getting really sore again : ( Any ideas of what is going on? I am a little afraid to go back to the doctor because I can't afford to be taken out of work again.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what made it better. TIA!

Yes, mine does it often and it's from repetitive use. I take a Bayer aspirin every night and Niacin too and it really has helped.

Mine used to get sore all the time until (sm) - OTE

I changed the setting on my computer to turn off the CAPS LOCK with the shift key. Considering how many headers we transcribe, our poor pinky has to turn it on, turn it off, press shift to the type the colon, then shift again to type the first word that follows. Go into your control panel, click on regional/language options, languages tab, details, click on US under the keyboard, key settings button and change your setting to "turn off CAPS LOCK" with the SHIFT key. It may save only a few keystrokes, but my pinky is pain free for it!

Thanks! Those are great suggestions. - Cathy

I will try the aspirin and niacin and the setting to turn off caps lock with the shift key. Hopefully that will help. It is my poor pinky that hits the semicolon to expand all of the time. I think he is just overworked and is protesting the upcoming paycut when our VR software changes soon (because he know he will then have to work that much harder)!

Triggering PinkyApr 22, 2017
After 20 years of transcription, always working ergonomically and being very mindful of back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, etc. I have started to have issues with my left (nondominant hand) pinky involving itself in "extracurricular activities" without my permission. It will lock flexed. It will refuse to straighten without loud, painful popping and, perhaps most annoying, has suddenly developed an intense fear of the tab key and simply refuses to go there without much coaxing. I can only guess wh ...

Sore Muscle Aug 17, 2012
I've had a very sore muscle in my upper arm for the past few days, I think from lifting heavy groceries.  I can't rest it much because it's pretty busy now with work, so have to type through the pain..  We don't get any PTO.  Just wondering, is heat or cold better for healing sore muscles?  I've just been putting Tiger Balm patches on it..  Thanks for any ideas.  ...

Know What Stands Out Like A Sore Thumb? SmSep 04, 2012
At the RNC the audience was predominantly white (as in I only saw like 3 black folks the whole time), very uptight, filled with suits, speeches had angry undertones, and of course there was the nut throwing incident as well as the physical assault. Now I know it's early, but thus far at the DNC I see a completely diverse group of folks who seem to be happy and excited. I detect no tension. On top of this is the involvement and inclusion of REGULAR PEOPLE in this event including local eve ...

Sore Ball Of FootSep 28, 2012
The foot I use on the foot pedal is slightly swollen and the ball of the foot is so sore I'm limping. It helps to wear shoes with padding. I do have periphera neuropathy from spinal stenosis which I think causes me to hold my toes in a different position because I can't feel the floor with the front part of my foot. The big toe curls to try to feel the floor. Not sure if this is the cause or what this is. Anyone else have this? ...

Anyone Have Sore Heels From Work?Jun 15, 2015
My right heel is very sore, feels like a bruise, but not going away. Haven't had it checked for a possible heel spur or plantar fascitis, but since it's the foot that I use for the foot pedal wonder if there is any correlation. Anyone else have this problem? Some days I can barely put pressure on it. Wearing shoes helps, but I always work barefoot so I can really "feel" the foot pedal. ...

Twitching FingerJul 22, 2011
I've had periodic twitching on my left index finger for a little while now, but today it's to the point that it's starting to interfere with my typing.  I have moderate CTS on that hand; just wondered if that might have anything to do with it.  Anybody else have this problem? Hee, hee ... guess my name really fits today! ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...

Anyone Out Here With Trigger Finger? Mine Developed In The Last May 11, 2014
This came on quickly.  One morning a couple weeks ago I woke up and found that my ring finger on my left hand seemed to be stuck when I tried to open my hand up.  Since then it has gotten a little worse, hurts mostly in the morning and feels like it is popping out when I open my hand all the way.  I looked up trigger finger and what it says is exactly what is happening to me.  Unfortunately it looks like there is nothing to be done about it until it gets so bad you have to ha ...

Minor Question - Finger ArthritisDec 19, 2016
In the grand scheme of things this is a very paltry question, but it's new to me, so would like to hear about any tips or fixes. I'm in my 60s but have never had arthritis, no pains anywhere, even with doing MT for 30 years. I do have the Heberden's nodes on a couple fingers, but again, no pain associated with them.  But one night 2 weeks ago, I got off work and realized my left ring finger was swollen and stiff at the PIP joint. My wedding ring, which I've always been a ...

Update On My Dry Cracked Sore Feet! I Know Y'all Been Waiting On Pins And Needles...Jun 14, 2011
I went with whomever it was that suggested Surgeon's Secret.  I bought some of that.  Plus I bought a pair of "Heelies" which are these little heel socks that have a gel lining along the heel that infuse minerals and oils into your skin.  My feet get really hot and I don't like to sleep in socks and these only cover the heels and halfway up the foot.  I L-O-V-E them!  During the day when I'm working, I've been using the Surgeon's Secret all over ...

Need Appetizer Ideas For A Christmas Eve Finger Food Party.Dec 14, 2011
My family all gather at my mom's house on Christmas eve to open presents and we all bring finger foods or appetizers and sweets.  I need some new ideas.  I always like to try new recipes, but I'm having some sort of mental block this year.  I can't think of anything that sounds good.  Not to mention I've been invited to a friend's annual Christmas party this weekend and she always asks me to bring the same old macaroni salad I always bring and I ...
