Hot flashes

Posted: Nov 4, 2011

Does anyone know of any natural remedies for hot flashes. I get them so often at night that I hardly get any sleep. I have tried I-Cool and other OTC products but just haven't really gotten any relief. I really don't want to try HRT. Just hoping one of you had found something that works. Need some relief. Thanks!;

You can do the this... (which is not well received but what I did and I became healthier to boot) cut out all foods loaded with hormones...meat, dairy and you'll have restful nights and days. I did. Both sisters and my mother suffered hot flashes...not me.

I cut out all refined and high-carb foods, including flour, sugar, potatoes, white rice, pasta.
Also, I used an herb called Black Cohosh. For me, this was 15+ years ago. My doctor at the time was unfamiliar with its use, but I think it is more widely used nowadays and info can be found on the Internet.

I will certainly try all of your suggestions. I thought I had them under control pretty well, but lately they have gotten much worse. I have been so tired from not sleeping well and said something really stupid and hurtful to my daughter last night. I have apologized to her and everything is okay now, but I have to get these hot flashes under control and start feeling better. Thanks again for all of your help.

I know how you feel. Hot flashes for me were actually debilitating. When they are at the worst I get almost no sleep. Like you, I tried over the counter remedies to no avail. They have temporarily diminished somewhat, but after a period of time they always return with a fury. I am going to try vitamin E. Good luck to you. I am glad things are better with your daughter.

How long have you had hot flashes. Mine started about 1-1/2 years ago. Mine have also diminished somewhat and are tolerable right now, and I sure hope they stay that way for awhile. My doctor told me they usually last for about 5 years. I will be so happy to be hot flash free!!!

Estrogen, Chillow, Pads - Linda_Osborne

I dealt with mine before we knew about Black Cohash, etc., by staying on a smll dose of estrogen (careful if you have a family hx of breast cancer). I also discovered relief from hot sweaty pillows with a "Chillow". Not quite as comfortable as a pillow - sits on top of your regular pillos and keeps your head cool. Also, to save time changing wet sheets, I would use those incontinence pads you can wash and reuse under area I'd sweat, then just replace that upon waking up wet and go back to sleep instead of making the bed.

Hot Flashes! Ugh!Apr 30, 2013
I've been dealing with hot flashes for a couple of years now, and just recently discovered that if I run the ceiling fan when I'm sleeping it helps a lot.  Unfortately, my husband doesn't like having it on, so when he comes to bed he shuts it off.  And then the hot flashes start again, waking me up.  I thought he was willing to try running it on the lowest speed, which doesn't help me as much, but I was willing to compromise.  Apparently, he doesn't l ...

I am in my early 50s and am getting hot flashes about hourly.  I was just wondering if anyone has tried anything that worked for them.  I have looked on the Internet and it sounds as if the naturopathic options aren't really proven to work, but at this point I will do about anything!  TIA ...

My menopausal symtoms are driving me crazy.  I have tried vitamin E, blackcohosh (which gave me headaches) and soy isoflavones with no relief.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I am not seeing my gynecologist until April and I can't deal with this until then!! ...
