Anyone out here with trigger finger? Mine developed in the last

Posted: May 11, 2014

This came on quickly.  One morning a couple weeks ago I woke up and found that my ring finger on my left hand seemed to be stuck when I tried to open my hand up.  Since then it has gotten a little worse, hurts mostly in the morning and feels like it is popping out when I open my hand all the way.  I looked up trigger finger and what it says is exactly what is happening to me.  Unfortunately it looks like there is nothing to be done about it until it gets so bad you have to have surgery, and even then there is no guarantee.  I already take anti-inflammatory and pain pills (non-narcotic) for bone-on-bone knees.  I was just wondering if anyone else on here has this problem too and if maybe they had found something that helps them.  I just have to get through the next 4 years and then I'm going to retire and work part time.  You know I really don't like this getting old business, but the alternative sucks so guess I'll just have to grin and get through it (and B**** about it now and again too).  If anyone responds, thanks very much.  You all helped me get through a major anxiety attack a couple months ago and I really appreciated everyone's input.

Before surgery - shipwrecked

If you google "trigger finger massage" it will give you instructions on how to massage the joint. This helped my trigger thumb. I think surgery would be a last resort, as a steroid injection will also solve the problem.

I hope you find some relief!

I had a really bad trigger thumb… - … that was really hard to straighten out

… about a year ago. I ended up seeing the orthopedist and had it injected. They also gave me some exercises to do and fashioned two splints, one for nighttime and one for typing. If I remember correctly, it took a couple of days for the shot to take effect. Other than a little pain that I guess I can live with, I have not had any problems with it since.

Trigger thumb. sm - Ouch

Hi. I had a trigger thumb maybe 10 years ago. It was my "space bar" thumb. Orthopedist did steroid injections on 2 occasions, and it has not bothered me since. He said, next time I would probably be looking at surgery.

One word of caution about steroid injections. My husband had to have one when he tore his medial meniscus and being a diabetic, it "shot" his glucose up to 500+. Not a good thing.

Those exercises another poster mentioned....sound promising. Good luck. Hope it feels better soon.

Contrary To GOP Claims, U.S. Has Second Lowest Corporate Taxes In The Developed WorldJul 06, 2011
During negotiations regarding raising the nation’s debt limit, congressional Republicans have defended tax loopholes for corporations, claiming that America has a high corporate tax rate that is stifling economic growth and job creation. But the Center for Tax Justice (CTJ) has crunched the most recent data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Office of Management and Budget, and the Census Bureau, and finds that “the U.S. is already ...

Twitching FingerJul 22, 2011
I've had periodic twitching on my left index finger for a little while now, but today it's to the point that it's starting to interfere with my typing.  I have moderate CTS on that hand; just wondered if that might have anything to do with it.  Anybody else have this problem? Trigger ThumbJan 07, 2014
Is there any solution to trigger thumb besides surgery? Over the past month my thumb joint has been kind of "clunking," not never totally locking, and doesn't completely flex. Sore Pinky FingerSep 29, 2010
Anyone else ever have trouble with their pinky finger getting really sore? My pinky finger has been really sore lately. A couple of weeks ago it got all swollen and turned blue.  I didn't injure it at all.  I went to the doctor and she said I had broken a blood vessel and put a splint on it for a few days.  She insisted that I must have injured it and forgot, but I know I didn't (I think I would have bigger problems if that were the case.)  It got better after I was ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...

Minor Question - Finger ArthritisDec 19, 2016
In the grand scheme of things this is a very paltry question, but it's new to me, so would like to hear about any tips or fixes. I'm in my 60s but have never had arthritis, no pains anywhere, even with doing MT for 30 years. I do have the Heberden's nodes on a couple fingers, but again, no pain associated with them.  But one night 2 weeks ago, I got off work and realized my left ring finger was swollen and stiff at the PIP joint. My wedding ring, which I've always been a ...

Is Janet Yellen Trying To Trigger A Recession ForMar 09, 2017
Trump might want to put a call in to Janet Yellen. The Fed is supposed to be a neutral, independent entity. However, that myth went out the window when Bernanke “gifted” QE 3 to Obama in 2012 to aid with the latter’s re-election bid. The Yellen Fed seems to be even more committed to defining the Fed as nothing more than a leftist establishment mechanism. Back in October when it still looked like Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 Presidential election, Yellen commented that she was c ...
