Any MTs with hearing loss and/or Meniere's Disease sm

Hi, all. I was diagnosed last year with hearing loss and this year went back for test and there is a significant drop. They are doing a couple of tests to rule out Meniere's Disease at the end of this month. No matter what, I am going to have to get something to help me continue in this field or go with another job (nursing, coding, etc.). I am working with the Ability Works in my state and they will help me get equipment like hearing aids, specialized heatsets, etc.

My question is, what is available? I am freaked out to say the least and between now and end of month wanted to find out as much as possible about options for me before going back for testing.

She had a special device that plugged into her computer and then her headset plugged into that device. She also wore hearing aids. It was determined that her hearing loss was the result of doing transcription for so many years, so everything was paid for through worker's compensation.

My neurologist told me a couple years ago that I should always keep the volume as low as possible and adjust it for every dictator instead of just leaving it up after a low talker. I had gotten away from doing that recently, but now that I have seen your message, it has reminded me to be more diligent about lowering the volume.

The neurologist said that she had read an article in a medical journal that talked about transcriptionists and told the doctors they should be aware of the person listening to their dictation and not chew, cough, sneeze, clear their throat, etc., into the microphone because they could be contributing to a transcriptionist's hearing loss.

She said that the article stated hearing loss as the third leading medical problem for transcriptionists with carpal tunnel syndrome being #1 and obesity #2 because of the long hours of just sitting. The fourth one was eye strain and other eye conditions. I am not sure what journal she was reading when she saw this article.

Anyway, I wish you the best. I hope you can get all the equipment you need and that it will all be paid for, but you may also want to look into a worker's comp claim if you haven't done so already.

I was diagnosed with Meniere\\\'s after noticing a hearing loss. After going to an ENT for a while who diagnosed the Meniere\\\'s and treated it with steroids and diuretics without much improvement, I went to the university medical program in town and have been treated with strictly diuretics (up to 50 mg of HCTZ a day) and have recovered nearly all of my hearing.

I feel fortunate not to have the dizzy spells that are so incapacitating and associated with Meniere\\\'s, but losing my hearing was very disturbing. I\\\'m ecstatic that I found a specialist who was able to treat it so quickly and easily.

After more than 40 years of MT'ing, I have lost 80% hearing in left ear and 10% in right ear. This, according to doc, is definitely due to constant sound assault on my ears for all of these years. I am looking for any information in how you (or someone close to you maybe) was treated for Lyme disease. Was it done only with antibiotics, pulsed antibiotics, or something else? This is the hospital I worked in for years. I also was a patient over the years. Sometimes our little hospital has to send people there if they cannot provide the right services (ours a little hospital). Latest on this is that the person got Legionnaire's from the hospital. We are having to cut down spending. I lost my job due to an injury and my husband makes 12 an hour (I was the main provider making twice that). Has anyone ever been successful using Metamucil as an adjunct to weight loss? Any thoughts or advice? I need to lose 20 pounds and have started eating lots more fruits and vegies.
