arthritis of the hip

Posted: Sep 16, 2013

starting last week my bum started hurting.  I thought wow i have sure flattened out the cushion on this chair, my right butt cheek is killing me!  I put a pillow down and that helped for a little while.  I have back issues so I thought maybe it was sciatica.  But it dawned on me this is probably arthritis of the hip.  last night was my 8 hours straight and i thought the 7th hour would kill me!! wow wee.  I have an appointment with my orthopedist wednesday.  I'm 35 but do have a widespread bone deformity so i'm assuming that's why i have arthritis already.

Any suggestions, helpful hints, tricks to dealing with this? thanks!

some of the weight on your right cheek. My desk has a shelf on the bottom that is about 6 inches from the floor. I have a pillow on it for my left foot. It really made a lot of difference for me but I'm only 5 feet tall and my feet don't touch the floor anyway. Maybe it will work for you, too.

i'm only 4 feet 11 inches lol maybe that has something - original poster

I have similar pain - but I'm older

You are young to have arthritis; however, it can happen at any age. I have had a nagging ache in my entire left leg for a couple of weeks now. It happens out of the blue. I'll be fine for several hours, and then BAM! It's kind of a generalized ache, radiating from the hip to the calf. I've wondered if it might even be a blood clot, since it's not constant. But when it happens, it's very painful. It can happen at night and wake me up, or it can happen when I'm sitting at my desk. NSAIDs aren't kicking it. Anyone else with similar symptoms?

A "charley horse" maybe? nm - Achin'

Sort of like a charley horse, but it lasts longer and it's not just in the calf. It's up in my hip, too. I'm thinking it might be the onset of arthritis. I'm short and overweight.

I had to change pedal feet, used to use my right one, now if I use it for more than a couple minutes it hurts like crazy. I use my left on pedal and have a step stool under my desk for my right one. Whenever I can I put the left one up too. I also have a board under my desk to elevate the pedal a little, it really makes a difference in my back. Oh, and I have been having problems since I was 38, I'm 58 now, had OA with DDD on x-ray and I think CT even then.

sounds strange that all of us - short people

have the same type of problem. I believe it is the way the chairs are made (for taller people). Anyway, I found something by accident that really relieves the pain... straight leg raises, particularly on the side that hurts, but I do not lie down. I just raise my leg continuously as many times a day as I happen to think of it...in a few days, the pain was gone. If and when it returns again, I start all over again. I don't know why, but it works for me. Good luck.

Add me to the list of achin' shorties. - Even 5"

I think you're right, about the chairs not being the right size for us. I'm going try your trick. Thank you for sharing.

Arthritis Pain In KneesNov 22, 2010
I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee in January and I cannot believe how fast it is progressing.  I now have it in both knees.  Transcribing makes it really ache because of the foot pedal.  I take Vicodin but some days that doesn't help and sometimes it makes me very sleepy.  Does anyone know of anything else I can try?  This is really affecting my ability to get my line counts and therefore my income.  Thanks! ...

My Lab Mix Is Seriously Ill Today Because I Overdosed Him On Arthritis MedMay 08, 2011
I must have been distracted when the vet told me I had to get my dog blood tests every 6 months if he stayed on his arthritis meds. I thought he had poisoned himself eating something out in the yard, but the vet thinks it's the medicine. I was supposed to give him half a pill and for the past several days I've been giving him a whole pill, because I thought he needed it. It can cause stomach ulcers, which in his case are causing acute vomiting and diarrhea. Earlier today I saw way too ...

A good friend of mine believes she has DeQuervain syndrome or it could possibly be also rheumatoid arthritis but more likely DeQuervan.  She has made an appointment to see a rheumatologist but can't in until August.  She has her wrists tightly bounf with adhesive tape and it feels a little better.  Has anybody ever that this and what did you do for it?  ...

Minor Question - Finger ArthritisDec 19, 2016
In the grand scheme of things this is a very paltry question, but it's new to me, so would like to hear about any tips or fixes. I'm in my 60s but have never had arthritis, no pains anywhere, even with doing MT for 30 years. I do have the Heberden's nodes on a couple fingers, but again, no pain associated with them.  But one night 2 weeks ago, I got off work and realized my left ring finger was swollen and stiff at the PIP joint. My wedding ring, which I've always been a ...

For Those Of You With Various Health Issues, Including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, EtcNov 01, 2013
As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day. I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it ...
