Would you help a man or woman lying in the street?

Posted: Apr 26, 2010

I was reading a post on the political board which is not a political issue and got me to wondering...

If you saw a man, woman (child highly unlikely), laying on the street bleeding to death, or even just down, would you call 911 or do anything to help this person.

I believe most people would.  The poster said otherwise.  I'm just curious if you would offer assistance, call 911, or whatever.

;

yes, I would call 911, if I would offer more help - help

depends on the specific situation.

I would not get involved if there was still a fight going on, but I would call the police.

Are you referring to the incident that happened - helping hand ?

in Jamaica? Also posted on the Politics Board?

Excerpt from a YahooNews report regarding this incident:

".....In the urban environment, it's not unusual to see people on the street, sleeping or under the influence of drugs or alcohol."

This all happened at 6:00 a.m. and it was still dark.

Maybe people didn't see the blood pooling under the man.
I was 6:00 a.m., still dark, people were hurrying to their job.

This was most probably the reason that several people passed by, not taking any action.

This man was stabbed to death by a man because he came to the defence of a woman who was in a fight with a man she knew. Both individuals escaped, the man after stabbing the "rescuer" to death.

That's what you get when you come to the "rescue" of another person.

No wonder that many people are afraid to take ANY action and mind their own business, one never knows what one gets into.

It wasn't in Jamaica. - sleepy

I know I would. Before cell phones, when I lived in the big city, I dropped 25 cents in a pay phone to call 911 when someone collapsed near me. It turns out he was what one could classify as a 'drunken bum' a street person whom the police were acquainted with. I don't even remember if 911 calls were free on public phones at that time.

In another instance, a skinny mother duck and about 6-8 ducklings were trying to cross a street as she was trying to relocate from a curb drain where she and her family sought shelter. I flagged down a motorist. A lady stopped her car, boxed up the duck family and said she and her daugter were going to relocate them in a pond she knew of.

Sad though the New York situation was, there are still some nice people out there. My experience has been there are a lot of horrible people, but I keep going because there are even more wonderful people.

Jamaica is a part of the borough Queens in New York - r o f l

we know that it did not happen on the island of Jamaica in the Carribean.
It happened here:

"....Tale-Yax was walking behind a man and a woman on 144th Street in the Jamaica section of Queens around 6 a.m. April 18 when the couple got into a fight that became physical, etc...."

No way. No how. - SueMe

Syria: Oil Prices Vs Wall StreetAug 29, 2013
That September drop you were expecting for gasoline prices? Don't hold your breath. Currently, gasoline averages $3.55 a gallon nationally, down from $3.63 a month ago. Most analysts had expected a drop to about $3.40 by early fall on seasonal demand slumping following the summer driving season. Not now. Some forecasters predict a short-term spike of up to 10 cents a gallon. Crude oil prices and gas futures are soaring on growing fears that if the U.S. military strikes at Syria for its h ...

The Most Important Wiileaks- How Wall Street Built The ObamaNov 18, 2016
Perhaps the most startling discovery of the WikiLeaks dumps so far didn't come from the most recent emails surrounding the various Hillary scandals, though there are many great ones, but from 2008 when John Podesta served as co-chair of President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team. The email came from Michael Froman, a former Citibank executive, who single-handedly built the entire cabinet of what was supposed to be the "main street" President. Just remember this when the MSM ...
