So true!

Posted: Dec 29, 2011

An e-mail I received:  This is so true and if this could really be enforced, what a difference it would make.

"The problems we face today are
there because the people who work
for a living are outnumbered by those
Who vote for a living"

This was written by a 21 yr. old female who gets it. It's her future
she’s worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare
big government state that she’s being forced to live in! These
solutions are just common sense in her opinion.

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX Nov 18, 2010

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no
cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice
and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul
away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos
and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke
or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair.
Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions
will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a
job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week
or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the
roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we
find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and
your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the
“common good..”

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all
of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules..
Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self-esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone
else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered
self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at
least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current
system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes
that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You
will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a
Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Now, if you have the guts - PASS IT ON...
;

love it, love it, love it - love it

Okay where are these jobs - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You can hardly get a job at Micky D's anymore. If you do not have all these hypothetical extra luxuries and do not even have a car, and live where there is no mass transit or any transit for that matter, where are these imaginary jobs????

Not hypothetical at all - 1mt

[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately, this is a very true scenario. There are so, so many people on welfare, receiving food stamps, receiving more and more gov't assistance for each child they have, yet their kids are running around with $100 Nike's on their feet, playing PS3 on their big screen TV, while their daddy who is allegedly "absent" from the picture is living with them, collecting the benefits right along with mama, and is driving around in a car with shiny chrome wheels, he too wearing name-brand tennies and $100 jeans, with tattoos covering his body, yet not working for whatever reason. Where do they get the $$ to pay for all this - the working people. And they feel they are entitled to it. There are jobs but they have to be willing to look, actually show up for work, and perform their job. The situation you described is different than what this other person is referring to. In your situation, one would have to make an effort to change their location so as to provide for themselves. Just because one chooses to live in an area where there are no businesses and they have no transportation, that does not make the rest of the working population responsible for supporting them and their children.

Both of your posts are so rife with stereotypes - it's shameful

[ In Reply To ..]
Reality check: Not all folks on assistance programs are looking for a handout. Not all folks on assitance programs are lazy, feel entitled, or have "shiny chrome wheels," flat screen TVs, Xboxes, "$100 Nikes," etc. Your description of the typical "welfare recepient" is nearsighted, mean spirited, and, well, flat out wrong. You're stereotyping.

If you want to get a good look at the working poor in this country... start by going to your local Walmart, McDonald's, or any billion (that's billion... with a B) company that rakes in major profits off the backs of their workers (some will even instruct their employees on how to apply for assistance too). These are FT employees who, because of lousy wages and crappy insurance, can't afford the basics of housing, food, and healthcare. Or, if you're feeling lazy... JUST CHECK OUT SOME OF THE MTS ON THIS BOARD! If you are a FT MT, chances are you are eligible to collect partial unemployment and other assistance due to NJA and low cpl.

Maybe it's just me, but your posts sound like you have an issue with the people (or your stereotype version) who are receiving help rather than the programs themselves. Pretty nauseating.
I agree with you - 1mt
[ In Reply To ..]
You are absolutely correct. Not all people (I never said all to begin with) on assistance are looking for a free ride. Apologies for offending you and not posting clearly. But reality is, is there are MANY able-bodied people receiving assistance who could be working but instead want the free ride and want to trade their food stamps for cash to supply themselves with other things. You cannot deny that there are people out there that do this sort of thing. Those are the people I am upset about; not the people who truly need assistance because they are trying to make a living but need help. There are a different situations for everyone, BUT, there are plenty lazy people who just do not want to work, who want to have baby after baby to get whatever assistance they can and not work. Maybe you don't live around that, but I sure do. When someone truly needs assistance, I have no problem with that whatsoever. The sad thing is also though, that those honest younger people as well as elderly who truly need assistance sometimes have a lot more red tape to go through and have a harder time getting assistance than the dishonest people. I wonder why that is?
Completely agree that this is stereotyping in the worst way - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
All this does is teach people to condemn the poor. How said and for the Christians in the world a terribly bad example to set. If you work at Walmart, this is the biggest employer in this country, even more than government employees - our own country doesn't employ as many people as Walmart does. Also, most people who work labor jobs are severely under paid, and these people's jobs are not for lazy people. That's why is is called physical labor. I am an MT. I've been one for over 10 yrs. Last year was the first time I got food stamps. I just couldn't make it anymore. I've been doing this too long to make $17/hr as an executive assistant anymore like I used to. No one wants someone in those positions who has been out of the assistant business for over 10 yrs. I have 2 dead beat dads. Neither one works. One just plain won't and the other thinks he is suitable as a house-husband, UGH! I haven't bough new clothes for me in yrs. I buy used clothes and I do this for my kids as well. Something new is for a special occasion. I buy appliances at auctions, including my car. We have one splurge. We have 1 movie station on cable, but we don't go out to movies - they would be even more expensive. Cant' afford $700 a month for a group policy for insurance and I'm an ex-cancer patient so I can't get private insurance. We take shopping and errand trips together to save gas. We play and the park and have picnics, go down to the creek and scoop up minnows for fun. We play tag and ride bikes. I couldn't fit the turkey in the freezer we were given for Christmas. It was way to big for my tiny freezer, so I gave it to another single mother I knew of, and she was thrilled. Even the cell phone we have for emergencies is a prepaid at $10 a month for only 50 minutes, but it is just for emergencies. I pay into the welfare system. I have for 30 years. If I need help, I'm going to ask and take it. That's what it is there for. Do I want things to get better? YES! I am planning on going back to tech school and get a degree as an LPN or surgery tech in the fall. In the meantime, am I lazy, entitled or a drain on society - not in any way!! Entitled and drains on society are the ones who want to use others for their own interests. Those are in lots of arenas in society. Every system has in its midst users and takers. That's just the way it is, but to say the poor and those needing some help are those kinds of people is arrogant and very cold hearted. I hope you rethink your attitude. Life has a funny way of teaching people lessons, and next time it might be you that needs some help!

So many of the people receiving help are not only poor, but very ill. I know of a man personally who has an outstanding hospital bill now of over $200,000 and no way to pay it. He has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is a good man who worked all of his life, and now he is on the other side needing help.

So let me get this straight... tubal ligations (forced sterilization) and stripping voting rights away from low income people are good ideas???? And you agree???

Wow.

The author of this article has NO CLUE about the real world.

are we going to drug test - grannies raising their grandkids?

[ In Reply To ..]
Agree with the author having no clue. The traditional foster care system is being replaced by relative care because government think grannies don't need as much financial support as a foster family. Are we going to drug test and inventory the possessions of these relatives who keep kids out of the foster care system? They get financial support too. You can't look at their Lone Star card and tell the difference between them and someone who is living off the system by choice.

I sure wish they would drug test the ones taking - care of some of these kids

[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked in a small rural town, and believe me, a good drug test for them wouldn't hurt. I have seen some of the grannies taking care of their grandkids that their own children wouldn't raise on the front page of the paper for selling drugs. When some of the foster parents would bring kids in, you would be thinking who in the world let them be a foster parent.

The writer's point was it would be voluntary, so not - forced sterilization, and

[ In Reply To ..]
Norplant was also mentioned. This is the real world. There are a lot of people who abuse the system. I really have not met many people, and believe me I have met a lot, that haven't abused it. It can make you sore about things when you have a 20-year-old at a well-child look at you like you are an idiot when you ask if their child is in daycare and also in the same visit tell you that they are trying to have another, this makes 3. This is a very, very common thing. In her defense, I am pretty sure she was raised this way and doesn't know any better, as most of the others.

I also think it is quite unfair for someone who pays no taxes and receives multiple types of government assistance to be able to vote someone in who wants to raise the taxes of people actually paying.

I think we should want to help people in need, but there is also personal responsibility. It should be common sense to someone who is on government assistance that they probably aren't prepared for another child. To me, if you can't provide your child with the basic necessities to live, then that would be child neglect.

I agree - Christine

Often with maturity comes a clearer understanding of others and an awareness of the many different circumstances in which people are living. I share your sentiments.

Your post - Unbelievable

[ In Reply To ..]
"But for the grace of God, go I."

And take away their right to vote? Your post is disgusting to me. Because there are those who take advantage gives you no right to generalize and make fun of people in need. Mother Theresa said the only way to truly empathize with the poor is to live among them. Instead of trashing recipients of government help across the board, maybe you need to do what my brother and sister-in-law do every Thursday. They volunteer at our local soup kitchen where they look into the faces of the poor. We as humans are to do what we can to help. The judging is up to someone else. Whenever I get an email reflective of the thoughts you posted it is deleted immediately.

She would do very well in a communist country - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
She's 21 but sure has a lot of growing up to do. Unfortunately she does not get it. You don't treat people like the way she believes they be treated. How would she like her rights taken away, tell her what she can and cannot eat, put her in a military barracks and force her to live in the same conditions she thinks other people should live. Tell tell her when she can wake, what she can wear, what she is allowed to eat or not eat, oh yes, and take away her right to vote.

What she wrote is great if you live in a communist country.

I'm all for getting mad when I see people abusing the system, having more kids so they can get larger checks, frustrated with people who are not working and pulling in welfare checks or food stamps yet buying cigarettes and alcohol, but at least I have compassion towards them and their situation. Everyone is different and no matter if you think its right or wrong you do not walk in their shoes and do not know what they are going through every day and their struggles. It is not anyone's place to judge another. I do not consider it "rewarding them for continuing to make bad choices". They are people and yes people make bad choices. I've made a few in my past, but luckily pulled myself up, but when I was down I sure don't want some 21-year-old punk telling me what I can and cannot do, eat, or whether or not I can vote.

I think there are a lot of flaws in the system, which should be worked out by politicians and lawmakers to try to make it better.

I'm sorry, but I found her "blog" (or whatever it is called) appalling and dehumanizing. She shows that she has no compassion for people, especially ones who have made mistakes in their past. She has a lot to learn and a lot of growing up to do.

I am a former SSG who served for 12 years. I didn't serve in our military and fight for the freedom just so someone who thinks she knows better than everyone else can take away their freedoms and right to vote.

I think it's hilarious that some 21-year-old - brat

[ In Reply To ..]
feels she's in any position to complain about what's being done with HER tax dollars! How long could she possibly be paying taxes? Even if she's been working part time since 16/full time since 18, big freakin' deal.

I have a few ideas myself. Hey brat, did you go to public school? Yes? Well, PAY FOR IT! I'm childless, others are seniors who have adult children who haven't attended school for decades, and others send their kids to private school. We're sick of having to pay for your free ride. Your family should be taxed MORE while we're taxed nothing. Your family can't pay more, you say? Well, then how about working off your free ride through mandatory community service... maybe even mandatory military service... after graduation? Sounds good to me.

Hey know-it-all, are you attending college through a gov loan or grant program? Nice... from now on WE get to decide what you can or cannot study and which school you're allowed attend.

Just how long have you been paying taxes? Three years? Well, collectively the 35+ crowd has been paying much longer than you dontcha know. You like driving? So do we. However, we're tired of the traffic, and since we've been paying toward road construction and upkeep longer than you, we think you should stay off the roads during morning and evening rush hour. Why should YOU be able to use the roads when YOU haven't paid? If you're caught, you'll be fined... maybe even have your license taken away. The fines collected can go toward filling the gap between what you haven't paid into the system and what we have.

I can go on here, but I think you get the point that there's nothing more irritating than a 21-year-old who thinks they have all the answers, especially one who is obviously wearing tunnel vision goggles.

Life isn't always so definite. - Sister

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, try this situation with what you wrote: A 52 year old who has always worked has health problems, loses job and insurance and pension, uses up all savings, loses home, and is almost in the homeless shelter before obtaining SSDI of $906 a month. She pays rent and utilities, has no car, and rarely goes out in order to save money. She gets food stamps of $200 a month which is the only way she can buy food. She is very proud but this is the way she can live. A lot of people on government assistance are not lazy unwed mothers. Most are people decimated by life. This 21 year old should write another letter in 30 years after she has been nbeaten down by life. This my sister I wrote about BTW.

You are right. Sometimes, life sucks and - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
there is no way out but to suck it up and accept help. I'm sure your sister feels like crap about needing help, but thank God there is some help available for her. Not a praying gal here, but I will think good thoughts for her as what goes around comes around! You're a good sis!

Life - wimt

[ In Reply To ..]
And she is one who deserves the benefits she is receiving. She is not abusing the situation of receiving assistance. I interpret this article as being directed towards the people who are abusing the system and could be gainfully employed. Just like in a situation where a company meeting is held and the president may point out changes that need to be made because of employees who are doing the company wrong. Those who are doing wrong need to be reprimanded, but those who are not will not be affected. Just my take on the article.
