Share Finger Foods

Posted: Nov 14, 2015

Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These are not filling, and they are relatively low cal---no mayo, unless you wish to. FYI: You can make chicken salad or tuna salad as well and use that instead. Pepperoni and cheese "sticks." Wrap a piece of pepperoni around a piece of sharp cheese (Asiago works here). Stick a large decorative toothpick on it to hold it together. Use your imagination for other combos. Okay, let's hear other ideas. We're trying to stay away from anything that needs to be cooked/heated, because your oven, stove-top and microwave will likely be "busy," and we don't want any baking dishes pots or pans to wash for the appys. We also want to stay away from anything terribly messy. ;

easy to fix appetizers and these are more than welcome.

Thanks - Glad it helped

Glad this helped. Yeah, keep it simple; as few dishes, utensils, pots and pans as possible.

I found the more appys that are out, the more complicated clean-up is anyway, because if you make too many, nobody eats them then you have to pack them back up.

A few well-appointed small bowls of peanuts throughout the area people are gathering is good, too.

Kids, adults here for Christmas dinner - apps fine, but for drinks

prior to dinner am uncertain what to serve.

I like a warm Sangria, steeped with a cinnamon stick and fruit of course. My Italian friend was here this summer and we made a cold Sangria but he said winter it is served warm.

It Depends - On What They Like

My family and friends like red wine with holiday dinners, so I make sure I have that in. Not sure what your gang likes to drink, but wold surely ask.

As to kids, I guess you would have to find out from the parents what the kids like/are allowed to have.

I would not customize to the point of getting a gazillion different beverages in, but you can try to accommodate most of the people.

recent one we like! - chowhound

We and another couple found this at a winery, sitting out as a treat. Loved it, and the recipe was provided. Tried it on my sister and bro-in-law and they loved it too!

11 oz jar of pepper jelly

8 oz block of cream cheese, softened

bowl of smaller-size pretzel twists

Whip the cream cheese & jelly together, and that's it. Then dip away.

[Note, I found a 10 oz jar of Reese red jalapeno jelly at the grocery store and used that, but we found it a little sweet compared to the original, which was a different brand of pepper jelly.  I'd actually start with maybe 1 cup of the jelly and taste, then add more if you like. The sweetness & heat are what makes this a great dip for the salty pretzels.]

Eden FoodsApr 23, 2013
The slogan for Eden Foods, which describes itself as the “oldest natural and organic food company in North America,” is “creation and maintenance of purity in food.” Its CEO and founder, Michael Potter, has been prominent in debates over labeling of organic food and GMOs. But the company has been quietly seeking in court another form of purity — to Catholic doctrine about sex being solely for procreation. That goes not just for Potter, but for all 128 of his employe ...

Healthy Foods That Don't Cost MuchJun 22, 2010
Got this from an article online To prove my point, I've put together this list of 50 healthy foods that I've purchased at least once in the last six months for under $1 a pound. So rev-up your shopping cart. Apples - One a day keeps the cheapskate away. Asparagus - HUGE store special at 99 cents a pound during Easter week. I bought 10 pounds, blanched it, and then froze it. Bananas - Potassium for pennies. Barley - A tasty alternative to rice and potatoes. Beans - Canned or ...

Twitching FingerJul 22, 2011
I've had periodic twitching on my left index finger for a little while now, but today it's to the point that it's starting to interfere with my typing.  I have moderate CTS on that hand; just wondered if that might have anything to do with it.  Anybody else have this problem? Hee, hee ... guess my name really fits today! ...

Sore Pinky FingerSep 29, 2010
Anyone else ever have trouble with their pinky finger getting really sore? My pinky finger has been really sore lately. A couple of weeks ago it got all swollen and turned blue.  I didn't injure it at all.  I went to the doctor and she said I had broken a blood vessel and put a splint on it for a few days.  She insisted that I must have injured it and forgot, but I know I didn't (I think I would have bigger problems if that were the case.)  It got better after I was ...

It's Raining Where I Am In California...Fave Cold Weather Foods?Mar 31, 2012
It's been raining off and on all day and probably one of the last nights of "winter" type weather we'll have.  My husband is in the kitchen making homemade albondigas and tortillas, which we love on nights like this. Does anyone else have a cold/rainy weather favorite food? I hope this rain lasts for a couple of days...it's so relaxing :-) ...

Anyone Out Here With Trigger Finger? Mine Developed In The Last May 11, 2014
This came on quickly.  One morning a couple weeks ago I woke up and found that my ring finger on my left hand seemed to be stuck when I tried to open my hand up.  Since then it has gotten a little worse, hurts mostly in the morning and feels like it is popping out when I open my hand all the way.  I looked up trigger finger and what it says is exactly what is happening to me.  Unfortunately it looks like there is nothing to be done about it until it gets so bad you have to ha ...

Minor Question - Finger ArthritisDec 19, 2016
In the grand scheme of things this is a very paltry question, but it's new to me, so would like to hear about any tips or fixes. I'm in my 60s but have never had arthritis, no pains anywhere, even with doing MT for 30 years. I do have the Heberden's nodes on a couple fingers, but again, no pain associated with them.  But one night 2 weeks ago, I got off work and realized my left ring finger was swollen and stiff at the PIP joint. My wedding ring, which I've always been a ...

Need Appetizer Ideas For A Christmas Eve Finger Food Party.Dec 14, 2011
My family all gather at my mom's house on Christmas eve to open presents and we all bring finger foods or appetizers and sweets.  I need some new ideas.  I always like to try new recipes, but I'm having some sort of mental block this year.  I can't think of anything that sounds good.  Not to mention I've been invited to a friend's annual Christmas party this weekend and she always asks me to bring the same old macaroni salad I always bring and I ...

I point the finger unreservedly at the entertainment industry, which has spawned and cultivated gaming that by design is ** ...

Amy Austin Dunham: "I'm a bit late chiming in about the cop who was acquitted of murdering Philandro Castile, I know, but I am going to add my thoughts anyway. I watched the newly released dashcam video several times, along with Diamond Reynolds' video, which I have seen several times as well. We have two different videos to watch and put all together as best as possible. Never did I see a reason to pull a gun on him, let alone shoot him. He was killed because the cop was scare ...
