It's raining where I am in California...Fave cold weather foods?

Posted: Mar 31, 2012

It's been raining off and on all day and probably one of the last nights of "winter" type weather we'll have.

My husband is in the kitchen making homemade albondigas and tortillas, which we love on nights like this.

Does anyone else have a cold/rainy weather favorite food?

I hope this rain lasts for a couple of days...it's so relaxing :-)

My favorite rainy/cold winter foods are - Baker Bee

Pot roast has to be my first, then chicken and dumplings, then meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Then top it with a nice slice of chocolate cake with a cup of hot cocoa.

Vietnamese rare brisket pho.... - yummy in my tummy...

Nothing can warm you up like a huge steaming bowl of pho with lime, basil and chilis. Clears your sinuses too. My son always likes a chicken and rice recipe I make with chicken, tomatoes, rice, green peppers and jalapenos. Another good thing if you like Mexican flavors is chicken tortilla soup with fresh fried tortillas. I'm from upstate NY, so we get plenty of crappy cold weather.

I love crock pot potato soup on a cold day. - Kendra

I like to put sausage and bacon and corn in it. Yum! Almost makes me wish it were cold here, but I'll take the 85 degrees, instead.

Grilled cheese, heavy on the cheese - and

Chicken 'n dumplings AND (hehe) stuffed baked potatoes.

My husband's (he's a chef) chicken soup and some fresh bread from the bakery. - Delicious! nm

homemade chilli sprinkled with extra sharp cheddar - cheese.

I like it with homemade cornbread or unsalted crackers or even fritos; depends on which I am in the mood for.

I have a fabulous pressure cooker and when it's cold I cook a big pot of beef stew that takes only 45 minutes, or I cook a pot of my mother's Spanish pinto beans with hamhock, lots of finely chopped onions, ground beef and lots of Spanish seasonings (this is not chili) and in the pressure they cook in 12 minutes.

MMMMMMMMM Good!!

California Prop 187 In 1994 LOST California For The GOPNov 07, 2012
red for Reagan and H.W. Bush, but NO more. California's gone very blue in Presidential elections ever since. For those who don't remember, 187 was an attempt by conservatives to deny schooling and healthcare to illegal immigrant children. It outraged MANY of all backgrounds, but it especially activated the Hispanics it was aimed at; and although it was later voided as unconstitutional, the damage it did to the GOP lives on. If no 187, we might well have woke up to a President-Elect ...

Eden FoodsApr 23, 2013
The slogan for Eden Foods, which describes itself as the “oldest natural and organic food company in North America,” is “creation and maintenance of purity in food.” Its CEO and founder, Michael Potter, has been prominent in debates over labeling of organic food and GMOs. But the company has been quietly seeking in court another form of purity — to Catholic doctrine about sex being solely for procreation. That goes not just for Potter, but for all 128 of his employe ...

Healthy Foods That Don't Cost MuchJun 22, 2010
Got this from an article online To prove my point, I've put together this list of 50 healthy foods that I've purchased at least once in the last six months for under $1 a pound. So rev-up your shopping cart. Apples - One a day keeps the cheapskate away. Asparagus - HUGE store special at 99 cents a pound during Easter week. I bought 10 pounds, blanched it, and then froze it. Bananas - Potassium for pennies. Barley - A tasty alternative to rice and potatoes. Beans - Canned or ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...

Bad WeatherApr 17, 2011
Hope you all made it through the terrible weather yesterday in the southeastern part of the country, and northeastern states.  What a night!  Our local TV station said there was definite possibility of a tornado in West York.  I live in the northwest part of York, PA.  About 8:15 things changed dramatically.   I ran from the livingroom into the bathroom, and I literally covered my head with pillows.  I live in an apartment and have the second and third f ...

I know a lot of folks are dealing with nasty weather, but can somebody in the Philadelphia area post an update on how things are going over there? I work an account there & it's been extremely slow lately. Assuming a lot of it is weather related. Hope all are staying safe. Spring will eventually arrive. ...

Weather In Charlotte, NC --- The DNCSep 06, 2012
Someone posted earlier that the forecast for Charlotte is the same as it was for Wednesday. They said the reason the venue of the President's speech was changed for Thursday was because they could not get enough people to fill up the 65,000 seats in the Bank of America Stadium. Well, that poster is wrong. I live here, so I know. Tuesday evening, we had one of the worst lightening storms we have had in several years. Thunder boomed and the ground shook. Lightening streaked across the sky ...

I Want To Be A Vikings Fan, Not Have Minnesota's WeatherFeb 06, 2010
So, as per my somewhat routine insomnia, I got no sleep last night.  I went to lie down this morning and heard my husband get in his car.  Then I heard him get stuck.  It took both of us at 5:30 a.m. almost 40 minutes to shovel all the snow and get his car out of the driveway.  Then, he got stuck at the bottom of the street.  Thankfully, a very nice neighbor heard him and came up with his plow, got him unstuck, and plowed the way for him all the way to the main road ...

Need A Good Potluck Recipe For HOT Weather Get-togetherJul 15, 2010
We have a family reunion this weekend which is about an hour away from home.  We're supposed to bring a dish to pass.  It's supposed to be over 90 degrees on Saturday, so I need something that will travel well and be a good hot weather dish.  I believe they will be cooking out burgers, brats, etc. for the main dish.  Anybody got anything that they use that people just love?  I'd love some suggestions. ...

UTD Fox News Blurb, Weather And Sports WhileJun 16, 2014
I went to a newly opened Shell station to get a half tank of gas.  As soon as my pre-purchased card cleared to begin the transaction, a video monitoring changed from showing a still picture of something you could buy inside to a recent news blurb of local events, followed by a three day forecast of weather in my area, a commercial inviting me to buy Snickers by running inside, finally followed by a Fox sports cast, all timed perfectly from the start of the transaction to the last 30 seconds ...

Hot Weather Lunch Ideas For Picky EaterOct 04, 2014
We live in a very hot environment and have no air conditioning, so it gets extremely hot in our house. I'm trying to get some lunch ideas that don't involve turning the stove or oven on at all, but my husband is extremely picky and I am not creative at all when it comes to food. I've done lunchmeat/cold cuts, but he will only eat that every once in a while or else he says I'm giving him gout. He doesn't like chicken salad or egg salad or anything like that. No se ...

Extreme Weather At All Time Lows As Climax Hoax Apr 29, 2017
The Church of Global Warming has many followers and, because it’s a cult-like religious belief to them, no amount of hard data will ever convince them they adhere to the teachings of a false god. Nevertheless, it is incumbent upon the non-establishment, honest alternative media to report what is and what isn’t: And what isn’t is the supposed increase in “extreme weather” due to “global warming/climate change” caused by humans. Climate Depot points this out in a new report tha ...
