Instant Lottery Tickets

Posted: Jun 10, 2010

In March I began buying instant lottery tickets at a shop in one of the malls where I live.  I was lucky at first, nothing major.   I won $40.00 on a $5.00 ticket.  Then I won $50.00 on a $5.00 ticket, and I won $10.00 on a $.500 ticket.  That went on for a few weeks.  Now I can't win anything to save my life.  It can be addicting.  I have really cut down on what I am spending, but it is tempting.  Do any of you have much luck?  I think the people who need money are can't really afford to play are the ones who keep trying Just curious.  $$

but never won much of anything. I did win $3 on Powerball once. lol I do, however, enter many contests (as long as they are not affiliated with time shares), and I always put my husband's name down on the entry form. He has won everything from a soccer ball and a bike helmet to a 5-foot stand up safe that was valued at over $2000.

He works with a guy who won 150K on a scratch off game once about 5 years ago. That is the only person I know who has actually won a lottery prize of any real value.

Here in Georgia the lottery funds our kids to go to full day 4-year-old pre-K, so at least there is a benefit to be had from the majority of people out there wasting their money away.

There is a woman in my town who lost her home to a terrible fire. One week later the woman won $250,00 on a $10.00 ticket at the food market where I shop. That really made conversaton at the store for a few weeks. The little gal I buy tickets from told me. Then a customer a few weeks later at the counter told me the same thing. I live in Pennsylvania. They say our lottery benefits older citizens. I think they could put a few more winners in each pack! I think if there were 100 names in a jar and 99 of them were MY name, they would draw the other person's name. LOL! Gotta keep trying!
I'm in PA too - scratcher

I play pretty often. The most I've won is $1000 on a $20 ticket. That was last year just before Christmas. I also won about $400 each week for 3 weeks in a row, 2 on scratch-offs and 1 on Super 7 this past fall.

I usually win $50 to $100 on a $5 or $10 ticket a couple of times a month. They are addicting, so I've had to cut back. I also like to play the slots at the new Hollywood Casino in Harrisburg. I hit $1300 in February on a penny machine -- woohoo!

A few years ago, my brother and his wife bought my sister a couple of $2 tickets for a gift exchange we always do and she ended up winning $2000 on that $2 ticket. Boy was SIL pi$$ed! Since then, she has never bought anyone in our family lottery tickets.

My dad just won the 2nd chance drawing on the Steelers tickets for 2 tickets to the Steelers pregame practice and dinner.
Lucky you! - Cutting down

A friend of mine won $1000 on the lucky valentine ticket Dec. 24 right in front of my eyes. I buy tickets in every amount and NOTHING. This has been going on for almost three months. I have bought more $5 and $10 tickets than I can say. One time I actually got mad and bought four $5 tickets at one time and NOTHING, PERIOD. I bought a $25 ticket and NOTHING. What the heck is wrong?? Funny you mentioned Hollywood penny slots. I am going up there next week with a friend and that's what we are playing. WISH ME LUCK. I COULD USE SOME! Maybe we should take you along. I live in York, by the way!

Tickets To A ShowNov 16, 2009
OK, here is the deal.... I have a 20 y/o and a 13 y/o and the holidays are soon approaching.  I always get a family gift we can all enjoy; last year it was the Wii.  This year I thought it would be fun to get tickets to see a family show and Disney on Ice is way too young for my kids and some shows are over my 13 year old's head... so I am thinking Blue Man Group or Stomp.  Of course I live in a little podunk town in Iowa so my destigntions are limited... mainly to Omaha ...

Lottery/tax QOct 17, 2009
No I did NOT win the lottery but I was just wondering... If a person was to win the lottery, say about 5 mil, I know that they have to pay taxes when they get the money, but do they have to pay taxes on it every year like an income.  Say I won 5 mil and quit my job and let most of it sit in a bank.  Would I have to pay an annual tax on that money or would I only have to pay that 1 time when I first got the money?  This is assuming I just kept my 5 mil in a regular old savings/chec ...

I am going to set-up a new transcription company.  My clients will have to go with one form used across the board for every one of the notes done no matter what they are.  For ESL folks, their cost to me would be more than those who speak English well.  We would have an action committee where ALL people would be heard and management would require answering all employees issues within a set amount of time.    The MT's will actually get paid what they are worth. ...
