Baby horse and mom

Posted: Jul 19, 2010

Just wanted you all to know that the baby miniature horse was even more precious in person!  She just stuck to her mom and they walked side by side in the pasture.  One of the girls who lives on the farm picked her up and brought her to the fence so we could pet her.  Baby's mom was eating hay under a shade tree with her back turned.

Suddenly she realized that her baby was not beside her.  She made some very loud cries and galloped over to the fence to protect her little one.   She was fine when she realized she was not in danger.   Baby is just under two weeks old.

The people who own the horses are so wonderful.  They have many goats of every color and size, kittens, and two dogs as house pets.  It was so great to see the love this family has for animals.  I told the owner it was wonderful to see these young children learn about them and care for them so gently.   Of course, all the animals are named.   The baby horse is named Paprika.  One little girl said the kids picked that name because the mother's name is Ginger, and they wanted to keep the "spice thing" going.

Glad you enjoyed your farm visit. Thanks for sharing!

A couple of weeks ago, we had a visit from a couple of farm animals from up the street. Husband is watching t.v. and he says "Is that a horse, and what's behind it?" I had no idea what he was talking about. I said where do you see the horse (thinking it's on TV) and he says "coming up our driveway." Went outside with him and sure enough a big horse and a goat came up our driveway (which is long) and trotted right to our backyard (which is fenced). They went right to that fence and both of them stayed there. It was too darn cute. The next thing we know the owner comes running up our driveway on foot with her husband in the car. Apparently the horse and goat got out of their fence and were strolling the neighborhood and just ended up in our yard. She said the horse and goat are like best friends. They had been looking for the 2 for a couple of hours she said. They just happened to see the goat come into our driveway, not seeing the horse, and when she saw them both in our yard next to the fence she was so happy she started crying (poor thing). My husband and I were just happy they ended up in our yard for the happy ending.

I just loved that story for more reasons than one. The friendship some animals have with one another is so great. I am glad for the happy ending! My visit was very theapeutic for me. It was so cute to hear all the goats "talking" at once. They all came up to us in a big group, and the little fluffy ones with black and white/brown and white spots were adorable!

thanks for update. - n/m

I just love love love the ponies... - Kendra

but I love the big ones! I wanted to breed my mare, but seem to have waited too long. Now she is very old and I am having a difficult time keeping any weight on her because her teeth are bad, so I couldn't in good conscious breed her and then try to have her nurse while she has a hard enough time getting nourishment for her own body. I might have to put her down, but hope that she can at least maintain her body weight until winter when the heat won't be so bad and then I think she'll do a little better. She absolutely MUST hang on until at least December when the hubby comes home because I have had her 12 years and cannot deal with all of the arrangements involved by myself. :(

I love horses, too. There are truly one of the most beautiful animals. I hope your mare can hold on. My friend had to put her mare down a few years back, and also their pony some months later. A wonderful neighbor of theirs helped buy both of them side by side in the pasture where they spent every minute together. They were best friends. It still feels empty to come down their driveway and look at the empty pasture and barn. Good luck to you.

So sorry for the typo - Christine

Meant to say bury them, not buy them. Sorry.

Thank you, and me, too... - Kendra

Actually, I hope she holds on much longer than that. She is so healthy otherwise, just having a hard time chewing her food and keeping any weight because of it. Plus, the neighbors already buried my dog and I only lived her about a month before my hubby left. I really don't want to ask people I don't know well for more favors, but they have been fantastic. They even came over and did a bunch of yard work that I had not asked them to do, but sure did appreciate! 12 acres is a lot to take care of on my own, especially with 2 small children. :)

10 years ago we adopted a gentle, loving thoroughbred gelding from a local horse rescue.  He had made his way across the USA from California after racing for 6 years, only making about $110,000.  By the time we adopted him, he was 18 years old and had been either adopted and returned or abandoned many times.  I have never been able to understand why this happened to him, but always felt that God guided him in our direction.  He is 17 hands tall, chestnuit with a white blaze a ...

Afghanistan And Horse Comment By Obama Last NightOct 23, 2012
Here's a story and link of the following: Although the glory days of the United States Cavalry are long gone, horses still serve the military. At Smith Lake Stables, adjacent to Fort Bragg, N.C., 36 horses are owned by the U.S. government and serve their country in two assignments. In one assignment, they act as equine ambassadors, linking the civilian public to the military. The horses are used in an annual summer camp program and in weekly day camp activities for home-schooled kids. But ...

ULtimate Betrayal: Sanders Was Just A Stalking Horse ForJul 26, 2016
Sanders knew all along that he could never win the nomination.  He sets up a campaign that brings in the gullible socialist/communist/extreme lefties, feigns a campaign opposing Clinton (but never took advantage of obvious points he could have scored on, like her dishonesty or her national security email scandal.  This was considered very strange by political observers). The fake "controversy" brings in a lot of disaffected, uninformed. Meanwhile, Clinton gets to stay more in a "cent ...

We're Having A Baby Girl!!! SmFeb 23, 2010
Ok...so sorry if this doesn't work.  I haven't posted a picture on here in a long time.  I just had to share the news...we are going to have a baby girl!  Jocelyn Mae is due to come into this world on June 5, 2010.  I'm 25 weeks 4 days today and my belly is definitely making it harder to work.  I work in-house in the hospital that I will deliver at, so the plan is to just work until I feel I can't / shouldn't...who knows....maybe I'll just ...

Baby MiceJun 11, 2010
I know he should have left well enough alone, but DH found a mommy and 5 baby mice in our shed.  He brought their bedding and the mice into the house to show me.  Mommy escaped and we can't find her.  Does anyone know what I can do for those poor babies?  After I put the dogs to bed at night, I leave out trails of cheese for Mommy, leading to the babies, hoping she'll come back.  Sure, they're rodents, but I feel terrible.  ...

So Not Having Nursed A Baby I Have Got ToOct 07, 2015
Just saw where a lady was upset because she wanted to nurse her baby at an airport, wanted some privacy and was told she could get that in the bathroom. She did not want to do that, said germs and then the airline person suggested the pet room where apparently the animals go to use the bathroom, I think. Having never nursed but thought a woman, if traveling, could nurse ahead and store the milk somehow. Women with babies have traveled for years. Why now do others think they are so entitled to ha ...

Need To Lose Baby WeightFeb 28, 2012
I had a baby 2 years ago and I have not worked out a day since then (bad I know).  Now, with summer coming up, I need to tone up and get in shape.  Anyone have a good workout they can share to lose the baby weight.  I've got about 10 pounds to lose, which isn't bad, but I'm so out of shape and kind of puffy, no muscle!  I really don't want to join a gym as I have a treadmill and some weights but really have no idea what kind of workout to do. ...

Husband Favors His Son Over Our Baby GirlMar 17, 2010
I just don't understand how my husband can favor his 7-year-old son from a previous relationship over our new daughter.  She is 4 months old and the only child he seems to be concerned about is his son.  His son is here Thursdays-Sundays and when he is here, he pays no attention to our baby.  Right now, she is not noticing this I guess because she is so young but I am afraid as she gets older, she will begin to pick up on this and that just breaks my heart.  So many litt ...

Mama's Baby, Daddy's Maybe, Need Clarification HereJan 01, 2013
Years ago when a couple married and the wife has a baby, the father automatically put on the birth certificate as the father, did not matter if actual father or not, just the way it was done. Fast forward many years. Heard that Kim Kardashian was pregnant and the father of her child is Kanye West. Ok, but wait a moment. She is still married to the Humphries guy, the divorce has not been finalized. Talk on a television program this morning if the baby would be a Kardashian or a West. Can a pe ...

Question About Baby Shower Etiquette.Jan 29, 2015
My friend is having her second baby and she decided that I should throw her baby shower this time.  I said sure and I suggested a diaper shower since this is her second baby in a relatively short period of time (2 years) and she has found out she is having the same sex, so in my mind at least, she already has all the "stuff."  She seemed very offended by this, so fine I decided to call it a baby shower and let people decide on their own.  Now my friend has taken to checking in wit ...
