A Christmas poem for the Newtown angels.

Posted: Dec 20, 2012

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38, when 26 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy; they didn't know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. “Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. “This is heaven" declared a small boy. "We’re spending Christmas at God's house”. When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name. And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring, those children all flew into the arms of their King. And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. ... And as if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad". Then He looked down on earth, the world far below, He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe. Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, “Let My power and presence re-enter this land! May this country be delivered from the hands of fools. I’m taking back my nation, I'm taking back my schools!“ Then He and the children stood up without a sound. “Come now my children let me show you around." Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, “In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

I live in CT and have so many heroic stories from the teachers who died, and some of the kids who tried to save their classmates. Too sad.

Your poem is just beautiful!

I don't want the religious right to "take back" the schools - wheres_my_job

it's not a lack of religion that caused the Newtown mass murder. The injection of religion into school/government will not solve this problem. Not all of the murdered children were Christian.

Who stated the religious right - curious

were wanting to take back the schools? I support them completely however, I also support your right to do otherwise. That is what being an American is, in my mind anyway, freedoms that our heroes have died for. I do,however, question why take religion out of the schools when our country was founded with religion playing a huge part. It's always been there.

The poem is lovely and very comforting to those - left to deal with the SM

horror and pain this has caused. My question to you is what exactly would you suggest to bring religion back into schools? I personally don't think it's a good idea (separation of church and state) but I am curious about what you think.

Nice, but - anon

All the religious and moral teachings in the world will not help deter someone who is mentally ill and totally off the deep end.

Just curious as to what sort of person - dislikes this??

Who are you people? I would love someone to come forth with that opinion. Not that people are not allowed to have an opinion, but come on...that is just awful. Maybe you are not comforted by the thought of heaven or God and maybe now more so than ever, but to dislike seems like a little much!

someone who does not like to see faith or tragedy politicized - that's who (nm)

Newtown Pol To Gabby Giffords:Jan 08, 2013
Gabby Giffords went to Newtown to visit with families of shooting victims, originally a low-key event that did not involve the press.  Despite advance reports of her visit, GOP CN State Representative Debra Lee Hovey went on a FB rant, decrying the "pure political motives" behind her CN trip and alleged lack of prior notice of the visit.  After the ensuing uproar over her cringe-worthy statements, Hovey then had the gall to claim in a hasty apology that HER motives had nothing to do wi ...

Fox Tells Newtown Families To Shut Up About Stronger Gun LawsApr 15, 2013
As I sat crying while watching Francine Wheeler give the White House Weekly Address, I tried to put myself in her shoes and imagine what I would do in similar circumstances. Probably just curl up in a ball and want to die myself, but if I ever came out of it, I would imagine that I would put whatever energy I had into exactly the same kind of efforts that she and her husband and other Sandy Hook families are now doing.  It is indeed a "disservice" to these families to imply they are mere pr ...

Christmas ServiceDec 25, 2013
I just wanted to share this with everyone as I think it is so awesome. My church had a Christmas Eve service last night. We sang carols, the old ones. Now my church is small and our choir during the year has at best 20 members. A lot of people came in for the holidays to spend with their families and some of them joined our choir for the service which raised it up to about 30 members, more or less. Well the main hymn, anthem or whatever was the Halleuia (?) chorus from Handel's messiah ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...
