That is right wing sites you are referring to.
Her actual quote was:
“This nomination holds out the threat of devastating consequences for worker’s rights, civil rights, LGBT rights, women’s rights, including those to make our own health decisions. It is a blatant attempt by this administration to shift the balance of the court for decades and to reverse decades of progress,” Clinton said.
“You know, I used to worry that they wanted to turn the clock back to the 1950s. Now I worry they want to turn it back to the 1850s,” she added. “These will be urgent fights. The stakes could not be higher.”
So no slavery, but every single right wing site made that claim. Presumably simply because there was slavery in 1850s so somehow that was what she meant. Not true. They have made it so very easy to hate Hillary that it takes nothing more than the power of suggestion (and malicious implication) to get the readers all worked up again.
Example: Glenn Beck's The Blaze site printed that quote above and then a simple sentence - not a quote, just a sentence by the writer.
Slavery was legal during the 1850s.
And of course the title of the article was this:
"hillary-clinton-claims-kavanaugh-will-turn-the-clock-back-to-the-1850s-when-slavery-was-legal"
See how easy that was?
Then they said her rhetoric was extreme, which it was not. Associating what she said with returning to slavery is extreme.
Again, read between the lines, or at least read the actual lines, not what Glenn Beck or whoever tells you she said. If you want to be fair, that is.
