How many times does that point have to be stressed? It's the zero tolerance policy announced and implemented by Trump and Jeff Sessions that is causing the legal bottleneck at the border. The new policy to detain everyone (100%) and catch and release zero (0%) while waiting to determine whether or not they are eligible for asylum AND if the parents admit in court and enter a guilty plea for entering the country illegally, they get their kids back. Of course, they also are not eligible for asylum having entered illegally and plead guilty. I wonder if anyone has explained nolo contendo or no contest to them? It's a judge's discretion but they have been going the other way on it.
Our Justice system employs similar practices with American citizens, albeit, a lot nobody really cares about but still. I think it could become a habit, and a hard one for our government to break at that.
When it's your relative they practice it on, you'll be upset but it will be too late. Fascism has already won. And that's how you kill democracy and replace it with some authoritarian government... doing everything for the good of the people and the country, including trampling on their constitutional rights.
