I've been reading about the Broceros Program (which is obviously 60-70 years old) but we lament "illegals" taking jobs from Americans, but that is exactly what the US government contracted to do to cover a deficit of able-bodied people for a period of time. When the obligations were terminated, those people didn't have the funds to get home. Also, some of those people are still battling the system to recover mandatory savings deductions which, in today's dollars, equates to about half a BILLION dollars. I also agree that I don't really know anyone (and I know many hard-working individuals) who would go out and pick strawberries for a certain penny per pound. Aren't we, as transcriptionists, complaining about not wanting to work for less than 9 or 10 cents a dictated line?
