I happen to agree on this particular problem. I have suggested in past conversations that we need to have better communication on these red-flaggers so they don't fall through the cracks. It is obvious that the way things are done now is inadequate. I think we need to strengthen the way data is used. Sometimes it's like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand did.
We need databases or better yet, a database, where when someone does a background check, they are able to gather information from one source that not only law enforcement/government agencies sources put information in but maybe schools, places of employment, doctors could put input in. I realize this opens up a lot of gray areas, but if someone has a file that has threats or aggressive behavior entered from employers, schools, doctors, etc., that would definitely be something that should be considered when allowing the purchase of a gun.
As for failure to enter the information, for whatever reason, that agency/department/whatever needs to be held accountable in some way.
Something needs to be done. These senseless mass shootings are getting out of control.
