Oh no, not insulted at all! - 34

Your mother's teachings are exactly those of my grandparents - that marriage is incredibly difficult and not to be romanticized, that respect is vital, and finding a man who is hard working and earns a good living is crucial to stability and happiness. I think they felt like their lessons fell on deaf ears when I got pregnant out of wedlock, but I worked hard to show them that I definitely listened to them, I just slipped up and did things backward, lol.

I always felt bad when I was pregnant with a "boyfriend" instead of a husband, just living together. Sometimes people were really ugly to me and I never really got to say, "Hey, you've got me all wrong. He's a hard-working man, we love each other, and we have plans for our future." Not like it was just a one night stand or something. I live in the South, so I understand that's part of the culture here too though.

But no, not at all offended, just wanted to share my perspective, being on the other side. I guess my point is that I wish old values weren't disappearing these days and there are some of us younger people who do actually listen, even when it doesn't seem so when you take a look at what modern society accepts. I totally agree with you in that there are too many broken homes and children hurting in the aftermath. Unfortunately, being a product of divorce, I was one of those children and thus, I want more for mine. I agree with you that there seem to be too many people these days who don't take relationships and marriage seriously and the divorce rate is entirely too high.

I applaud you and your husband for setting an excellent example to the younger generation! I have modeled my marriage after my grandparents' in every way - after all, they've been married 63 years, so they must be doing something right!

Best wishes to you and your family and God Bless!
