Gab Board

I know the term - and I'm only 34.

I was raised mostly by my grandparents, though. My husband and I did "shack up", and we did have a son before we were married, but I am by no means a sl**. We were together for 3 years before our son was born and were married when he was 6 months old. We have been married for 15 years now, have since had a daughter as well, and have built a 2500 sq ft house on our 40 acres. He has a full time job, I do transcription so I can stay home to raise our children, and we run a small but successful cattle operation.

That's not to say my grandparents weren't disappointed when I first moved in with him, and then even more so when I got pregnant. I understand their old school values and I do not encourage my children to go the route that I did because it was much harder, but my husband and I love each other and our children very much, we work hard on our marriage and work hard to instill morals and values in our children.

It is a brave new world with new ways and not all of them are good. I hate to get that old school snub whenever someone hears my story of a girl who got shacked up and knocked up. I didn't do things by the book, but it doesn't mean that I am garbage. We are still good, hard-working people who want to raise productive little members of society, even though we started out ass-backwards.

Just a little perspective from the other side :)
