If you don't care to read the link...SM - Old Anon

I gave, here's a segment from under the subheading "Life and Death" in that link which will help answer your question.

Unitarian Universalist views about life after death are informed by both science and spiritual traditions. Many of us live with the assumption that life does not continue after death, and many of us hold it as an open question, wondering if our minds will have any awareness when we are no longer living. Few of us believe in divine judgment after death. It’s in our religious DNA: the Universalist side of our tradition broke with mainstream Christianity by rejecting the idea of eternal damnation.

So in essence, it is a personally held belief for some of us but not all; and the belief has been formed from knowledge of multiple religious traditions, etc. I cannot point you to any particular biblical text or tenets of other religions as the basis for my belief, nor do I have to. It's just WHAT I BELIEVE, and I do not have to justify it to you or anyone else. I would never ask anyone of a religion other than mine to justify or give any sort of proof/reason for their beliefs. I accept what they believe and defend their right to believe it.
