I grew up in a house with an avid hunter. As long as I can remember my dad had a gun case filled with guns, no glass and no lock and we never had any interest in playing with them because we were taught early on that guns are dangerous and we do not touch. As we grew a bit, my dad taught us how to shoot a gun and gun safety and they are not toys. It may be spiritual but I think it is more that movies and video games have somehow glorified killing and parents don't teach their kids about gun safety and that death by shooting is not a game.
Some schools back in the old days used to have classes where they taught kids gun safety and bow safety and kids even walked through the schools with guns heading out back to the target area. Kids also used to get in arguments and settle it out on the playground with a good old fashioned fist fight.
I don't know what happened but it is absolutely horrifying.
