The Big Picture? - JustMe Posted: Jan 20th, 2018 - 11:02 pm
It's been happening for a few years now, but someone needs to say it.
Word/Language/Writing-related jobs are on the decline.
Newspapers folding or going exclusively online. People buying fewer books. Most newspapers folded their investigative journalist departments about 15 years ago.
Technical writing jobs are still available. Translation jobs (with the world economy) are available. Major newspapers are still hiring "journalists," which to my mind (old school and a Journalism grad) are not really the writiers of old. They're more like compilers.
Don't look now, but math/science/engineering jobs are taking over.
MT has its own pressures (offshoring, VRT) but I think is part of this tidal wave change.
