Sorry - didn't realize I'd set the font smaller. - No copy-paste. My observations in my own words.

What we see so much of, not just in this forum but others as well, is the adoption of tribal narratives that masquerade as rational analysis.

The consequence is predictable, namely a sort of "camp" mentality in which we see ourselves as "soldiers" of one army or another, locked in a grim battle, not for truth (as we deceive ourselves into believing), but for supremacy.

It's one thing to be inclined to a particular position. It's quite another thing to elevate it to the level of a religion that we follow (and preach to others) as if it had come to us by divine revelation.

There are two dangers here. The first is that, in this world of difficult problems, we shut out and shut down potential contributions, ideas and perspectives that originate outside our own narrow world view.

The other risk is the destruction of civility among people of differing opinions, and the catastrophic effects of this damage to our society cannot be overstated.
