A few decades ago...maybe you meant 50 years ago...and most of it existed then covertly...maybe not the piercings.

So, great surprise the public displays are becoming more prevalent because of oppression. They are becoming more prevalent to you because you have become oppressed into that class. Capitalism is tribalism.
