You can count the occurences for Florida at the Wikipedia and NOAA.gov links in the post.

You can also see that the intensity of hurricanes has also gone down over the last 50 years. (Use the NOAA.gov data in the link to verify.)

So not the worst ever. Not even the worst since we've started keeping records in 1850.
