Post Thyroidectomy - Jennifer

Posted: Dec 31st, 2017 - 12:36 pm In Reply to: Healing my Thyroid - AZMT

Thank you for sharing your story and for the tips on foods to avoid. I had been hypothyroid all my life (I'm 65 now) and about 1.5 years ago I started losing weight, 70 lbs. I knew there was a problem but I didn't have health insurance so couldn't get any tests. Once insured, an ultrasound showed a nodule in the thyroid. Referred to endo who ran thyroid uptake scans which were the highest he had ever seen, so referred to surgery for a thyroidectomy. Pathology showed a small adenocarcinoma but it appears they got it all with clear margins. I then put on about 30 pounds a month while dieting until they brought my levo-thyroxine up to 200 mcg daily which normalized all my thyroid tests.

No one talked to me about diet, so I'm glad I saw your post. I do like broccoli & brussel spouts, so good to know what to avoid.

My only problem now is circles under the eyes that have aged me about 20 years and nothing seems to get rid of them. I was diagnosed with Grave's disease.

Thanks again for sharing.
